My name is yadira and many people pronounce my name wrong. when'they ask me how you spell it. I always say "y" but they think im saying "why"as in asking a question. I think that thats funny.

I'm from Puerto Rico and have been in the'states for 8 1/2 years now. i've only met another person with the'same name'since i've been here, but it is a difficult name to pronounce for english speaking people. I tell people to call me Dee for short, but my family calls me Yary. I really like my name though, It's very unusual.

Just as the first person stated "Yadira" is virtually always pronouced wrong and i just like her did shorten my name to "Yady" so that it would be easier to the english speaking people to pronouce. I do love my name because it is unique It's not common in any sense except to maybe my fellow hispanics. The name is mainly used and associated with the hispanic culture. The indiviuals that i have incountered with my name have have been of hispanic origin. Although threw resarch of my own i have found that there is a possiblity that it might stem from the hebrew word "yadid" which means friend, or if you were to break it down in spanish could also mean "ya dira" which means " already said". In any case i really like my name and it never has crossed my mind to change it.
