Hello Yes, I am Gen 3 Hal. my dad, his dad, then me are all Hal, also my granddads uncle is also Hal. Hal is normally pronounced with a Long A sound people like to spell it out as if I'm a hall way and those people need to go back to English class and learn the difference between Long A and Short A sounds.

I am named Hal, not Harold. My father was Harold. Throughout school in the 50's and 60's and constantly had my name mispronounced. I was Hale, Hall, Howe, Al, all kinds of names. It was kind of embarrassing. I hated the name for a long time. There were no other "Hals" that I ever came across in school: elementary or high school.

Hal's a nice neutral masculine name, simple yet unique. It would be a good nickname for someone named Halston.
