Additional description of the name Kade

Kade is a slight modification to the English surname Cade, derived from the medieval epithet 'Cada' which in turn originated from a Germanic word meaning 'round, lumpy'. This nickname prior to the 7th century would have been used for a corpulent person. Alternatively, but less likely, the surname developed from the Middle English word 'Cade' meaning 'domestic animal, domesticated animal'. In this case, the nickname would have been used for a gentle, harmless person.

The surname dates from 12th century England. Cade is also sometimes considered a shortened form of the Scottish Gaelic name-Caden. The first name Cade notably appeared as a minor character in Margaret Mitchell's 1936 novel "Gone with the Wind." Cade Calvert was a southern boy from a good family whom Scarlett's father wanted her to marry at the beginning of the novel, but whom Scarlett "would not have on a silver platter." Cade returns from the Civil War a broken man with terminal tuberculosis. Still, it's probably the first time Cade was introduced as a given name by Americans. Southerners more or less started the trend of using surnames as given names in the United States. Americans are also more notorious for changing the spelling of names. Going from Cade to Kade is an example of this. Kade could also be considered a nickname for Kaden (also a respelling of Caden) or Kadence (respelling of Cadence). Popularity

Kade is relatively new to the American male naming charts, first appearing in 1988, but didn't get a cliffhanger until the mid-1990s. Cade hit the charts earlier, but this name also didn't have a permanent place on the charts. until the 1990s. The introduction of these two names was most likely influenced by their more popular versions Caden and Kaden. While Kade has risen up the charts since her debut, she's still a name used with slight sparingness. It is quite typical for American parents to take the more common "C" names and modify them into "K" names. Some feel that it creates a more masculine quality, while others hold that it feminizes the name. The “K” feature is also more phonetically comfortable for some parents. And while Kade could be used as a nickname for any gender, as an independently given name, it is used almost exclusively on young boys. We think the 'lumps around,' origin of the name is quite amusing in a charming sort of way.

First off my name is Kadin. Though i've had my dad call me Kade for a long time. I'm 37 years old and only recently have I had my teacher wrote my name on an assignment and now It'seems my friends call me Kade now. They use it as a nickname for me. Which is shorten version of Kadin. Though I still have to tell people how to spell my name and say it. The people that I know that have that'spelling are all younger than me. I know only very few that have the'same spelling as I do and are older than me.

WE named our son Kade Forest in august 2018. There are mixed reports on the meaning. But the arrangement of the letters has strong roots in the elements. The common meaning of Kade "from the wetlands"... for my son is more like "from the forests". A wonderfully unusual name

My son Kade was born in Ballarat Australia in 2009. He has a friend at school named Caed. He likes his name but would of preffered It'spelt Cade because he thinks it is too similar to Kate.

My 2 yr old son is named Kade. We had never heard of anyone else named that here in Utah until we started telling people we'd chose that name. We found out that Caden/Kaden is a similar name that is rising in popularity here. Since then i've met a woman whose husband is named Cade. My mom, a retired nurse who volunteers at a children's hospital said she has seen a lot more boys named Kade or Caden (will spelling variations) over the past couple of years. It is still not an overly popular or over'sed name though, It's just familiar enough that people don't wonder how to pronounce it. We are glad we named our son Kade, it fits him well. It is strong and masculine sounding and a bit off the beaten path.

It's so weird to read all these comments. I am girl named Kade. It's often confused with ok, or spelled with a "C", or say Ka-dee (which I really hate) also. I haven't heard of any girls (or boys) named Kade, so It's very inter'sting. I feel blessed to have my name. People always remember me because of it.

This is my infant son's name. I chose this name because it will always have a uniqueness to it as opposed to every other Tom, Dick, or Harry. Although most people see it and don't pronounce it properly, I don't take it to heart. Its a beautiful name and I wouldn't have changed anything about it. :)

I name my youngest son Kade Sept. 2017. It is usually pronounced wrong as a girls' name Ka- dee!! I do love the name it is very unique and there are NO other Kade's that we know of, although once we tell people the name they pass it on, and there have been a couple instances that their family members and what not have used the name. People generally remember him very well, b/c of the name. My son is a masculine little man, and I feel this name fits him well.

My Sons Name is Kade Stephen Lee... I wanted a Scottish Name for him (even'though I know that his name comes from different countries too)Kade is Scottish means "from the wetlands" and it couldn't have been more suited to him... he is also mixed race (his dad is African) and he is just beautiful, with a beautiful name... alot of people comment on how unusual it is and that they have never heard it before... Wasn't to sure about naming him that even'though I Love it as Kaden, Jaden and Braden's were becoming really popular... but then i thought that his name is different from those other names... found out that there is 2 Jayden's and a Kaden in and around our are... but still no Kade's.... It is a very strong and masculine name... I also find that'some people dont know how to pronounce it... They pronounce the "E" so they say (Kay-d-ee). His name'suits him and hello to all the other wonderful Kade's on this page... your parent/s chose you a fantastic, unique name...
