Just a correction, from a South Pacific Islander... Adding an "a" to the end of Kai - does not femenize it... it changes the meaning all together. Kai is already a unisex term, depending on the'suffix added to it, is what appropriates gender. Traditionally, KaI'more than likely would not stand alone whether it was by suffix or the following name, an ocean/sea cannot stand on its own. It can be strong ocean, or whispering sea, magical waters... you get the point. Aside from giving colonized names/surnames, naming your children is a lot more intricate than how it "rolls off the tongue". As for people hearing it in a Bob Marley tune and naming a child after it... Bob was not referring to anything pure. That is, unless it was pure marijuana. I'm not attacking anyone, just wanted to encourage a bit of free thinking on the part of soon-to-be parents. I'm not addressing the'swed/Norway meanings at all - b/c I clearly am not. I can only comment on the way people freely/randomly pick names based on how It'sounds - as opposed to what it means and how it resonates for that child. They will carry the resonance/vibration forever... that is, if they don't decide to change their names altogether. Think about it... would you like some kid named Moses to feel he has the right to part your daughter's red sea❤️❤️❤️ Or some other horney teenager wanting to see how "pure" your daughters' goods are❤️❤️❤️ Hope this posting helps :)

I love this name and chose it for our puppy because of its "gaia" implications and because it is the Norwegian petname for Katherine (and she's a norwegian elkhound). Word of caution: many people have asked me if I have named her Kaia because it is another name for "ganga" (aka marijuana). This definitely was not my reason, and you may want to consider this before saddling your child with this implication.

Our daughter, born in March 2019, is named Kaia Lucia. We struggled with choosing which spelling to use for a long time, but in the end, after polling many people on how they would pronounce it upon seeing it written, this version won out. We often get compliments on it when strangers hear it, though do be prepared for questions about the'spelling.

Im 16 and people say that my name is different but really nice i pronaounce it like saying they boys name kai or kye and then adding an "ah" its horrible when people say it wrong i think because not many other people have a hard name like this and by the way dont go to spain because "calla" mean shut up and it is pronounced the way we say it and ive lived in spain for 4 years and yes i got teased at school for it..
