I am happy to hear the comments of Jeff and that they used the male name for their daughter. I think it is very cool. I have a puppy that I want to name Akira, thinking it would be pronounced A-Kear-A. I have gotten negative feedback by some about it only being male. We named our daughter Aleena We chose this name because it is beautiful and uncommon.
Akira is our daughters name, which is actually a japanese boys name. Our daughter is half japanese and we wanted some tradition without being traditional. Be forewarned it gets pronounced wrong a lot - the worst so far is "acura" like the car! ugh. We love it - p.s. it means intelligent.
