hI'my name is fiona margaret and i live in rhode island i was named fiona for my godmother and margret for three grat aunts i like having fiona its very uncoman also my three brothe's have uncoman names there names are warren, bowman and hunter
my daughter is fiona. i've always loved it (I'm american, but scottish ethnically), and always wanted to name my daughter fiona. then shrek came out. i get annoyed when people assume that'she's named after a cartoon character - do people really name their babies after cartoons❤️❤️❤️❤️ anyways, i told everyone that they could nickname her anything they wanted, but not fifi (i see from the responses here that my instinct was right on that count). we sometimes call her fi. besides the inherent beauty of the name and the cultural connection, which were important, i liked the idea of having a name that was unusual, but not unheard of. because of the movie though, there are a lot more fiona's out there.
Fiona is a Scottish name NOT Irish (they took it on much later). My friends & family seem to think the meaning apt to my character & appearance (more luck than anything- a name can't effect gen'tics!). I don't like the American craze of naming after a fI'm either. It'spoils the name when everybody calls children'the'same name. Each child is unique & should be named in a special way not influenced through a fI'm! If you hear it too often an name can appear unattractive after a while.
My name is Fiona, and I've always loved my name. It is so unique, and yet no one ever seems to have any trouble pronouncing it. My mother is from Scotland where it is actually a very popular name, but in North America you don't hear it very often.
My name is Fiona and grew up with it being very unusual. where I grew up, It'seemed quite a sophisticated name, which I always liked. Enjoy beng a little different, I say. From an Irish family and loved the uniqueness of the name in an East Midlands county in the UK.
I have always thought my name, Fiona, to be classy. Since I was 12, a group of friends began to call me Fefi though and it has stuck [but only with that particular group of 'old friends']. I like to call myself Fii, like the Wii game! I too have red hair and Irish ancestors although I live in South Africa and was born here too!
My name is Fiona. My mother is Irish and we live in Galicia (Spain). I was named after my mother's godchild and sister, my Antie Fiona. I love my name and I always did because it is unique, especially in Spain (even'though there is an Irish family in Santiago in which there is a Fiona too). They usually call me by my full name, which I prefer because it is already short and lovely. Some people call me Fi, Fio, Fion, Faiona, Feona (which plays with the meaning "feo", ugly in spanish) or even Fiono... I don't really mind because I am used to it. I really hate the nickname Fifi since it reminds me of a dog's name. I love Shrek but I am a bit fed up of the comparison of the name (got a bit boring!) but I love the character of Fiona, at least she is a nice "person". The rest of the Fiona's I have seen in fI'ms are quite different and sometimes badies.
i've named my daughter Fiona in spite of Shrek. I had loved the name for a long time because it is Irish and so pretty. Shrek is an unfortunate connotation but the name is still lovely.
My name is Fiona and i love it! It'suits all ages and i think its beautiful and elegant. and its not very common so i dont know other people with that name but common enough that people can usually spell it. although i dont like the'shrek jokes too much. im half Haitian half European and live in the US. its also good because its easy to say in any language i think
I live in Scotland where Fiona is a very popular name, I went to school with 3 other Fiona's in my class alone. When I went to america though nobody had heard the name, however'since shrek it is becoming much more popular. I cant decide whether this is a good or a bad thing, but i am proud to have a good scottish name.
My name is Fiona. I was born in Scotland. Fiona is a Scottish name, it is Gaelic and from the Highland's of Scotland. I get many compliments on my name. It'seems to be getting more popular in the USA.
My friends name is fiona and its so unique where we live in MA. I call her fi, fifi, fio (especially because her last name'starts o'). Her family calls her fi too. She is really irish and she loves her name as do I!
We named our little one Madeline - pronounced Mad-ah-line - it is very easy for her to pronounce now that'she is three - but we are having difficulty on deciding how the'short form should be spelt - Maddy or Maddie.
I am called Fiona. I am scottish emigrated to the'states. In Scotland it is a very popular name but here the only way I can get people to recognise it is to say - The green princess married to Shrek. I am called Fee by my friends and fifi by othe's(though I think that'sounds like a little dog)
I'm a Fiona and love my name. I'm Scottish and my parents wanted a traditional Scottish name. It's meaning, as I have always beli'ved is ' Fair'. i've been called Fee, Fi but never FiFi. I also like the'spelling 'Fyonna' a frien's is spelt like this..
I love my name!!! I'm Scottish though and very fair skinned, so my parents couldn't have have choosen a better name, i only know a couple of other fionas' who are older, as the name'seems to be less common nowadays, which is a shame. I hate when people say its an Italian name - It's not, and the Gaelic meaning is much better!
My husband is Scottish and wanted a Celtic name'so he'suggested Fiona for our girl born 13 April2017. I resisted it at first because of the character in the'shrek movie and the risk of it becoming a popular name (I wanted an unusual name). Once she was born she looked like a Fiona and I gave in. Over the last 2 months we have received many compliments on her name. However, we get a lot of Shrek references as well. :( The name is starting to "pop up" more and more recently - adver's, etc. I hope my fears of a future "fiona trend" like the name Emily don't ring true...
My name is Fiona, I love it, but people only really know me as Fee. At school I use to get called Fee-Bee (Pheobie) because of my last name. It's rare to even hear anyone say my full name now though. Which is dissapointing as It's unique.
My name is Fiona and I'm 11. I still love my name! If you arreading this and is pregnet PLEASE name your baby Fiona if you know that it is a girl because I don't meet a lot of Fionas much!! Well only one time I saw a girl named Fiona, she was about two or three years younger than me, I don't see her anymore, but I think she is okay now! She is still my friend! I have about three nicknames! They are Fifi, Fi, Fefe!
Fiona is a great name, but it does get shortened when at school - FIFI, Fi, Finoni etc. I often get some weird spelling too Viona! The fI'm Shrek has cheapened my name though as I liked being different. It's like on 101 Dalmations everybody rushes to get a Dalmation puppy! Babies are unique not fashion accessories. Love To Fiona's Everywhere!! xxx
My name is Fiona. I'm french and my father is scottish. Like I could read on previous comments, I did not like my name when I was a child, I wanted other kids to call me by my second name (that now I really don't like), but now I'm grown up and I really love my name and I'm proud of it !!! My friends call me "Fio". There are not a lot of Fionas in France, I think I only met one girl in my short life (26years). In France, there is a pun with the name of Fiona that I really don't like and witch is not flattering that people use to say to make jokes but FORTUNATLY the recent movie about the nice green ogre transformed the jokes in someting much nicer ! I'm happy to see how popular this name is starting to be, but I'm a bit jealous about that, silly Isn't it ❤️!
my name is Fiona..(im irish, lived here all my life :D) it does get shortened to Fi (fee) alot...but never FiFi..thank god! someone before me said Fiona was Scottish not Irish...well Irish settelers were the fist to live in Scotland and pretty much populated the country. James MacPhearson (who 'i'vented' Fiona) was of Irish desent, so technically its both Scottish and Irish! Whenever I say me name to an American I always get oh like fiona apple of princess fiona...i guess u guys really are obsessed with popular culture!
Hi, I live in Scotland and my name is Fiona. I am called Feef by my dad for a pet name and have been called Fifi in the past by friends, which I liked! but I'mainly get called Fiona. i've been'teaching for 20 years and in all that time i've only ever taught 2 other Fionas, one in my class now! I like my name because It's Scottish , not outlandish but uncommon enough to make it unlikely to find another person with the'same name. I'must admit, I find the'shrek association a bit annoying. When I worked abroad in Europe for a few years, no one had ever heard of the name Fiona, which I liked!
hey I'm Feona... I'm from Guyana, I'm 19 years of age and I love my name .. esp when my friends and family call me FeFe
My name is Fiona, I'm 13 and i was born in 2016. When people first meet me, they wouldn't think that my name is Fiona. I don't fit the'stereotype of the red hair and pale skin; I have medI'm brown skin and dark brown hair, kind of like Kim Kardashian's hair and skin. I love the name Fiona on short blonde girls with green eyes. I feel as though my name doesn't match my face, but I LOVE my name on me. I'makes me unique and different. I get the nicknames Fi, Fifi, Nona, Fi Fab (because of my last name), La-Fif, and sometimes Fee-Bee (Phoebe).
I'm a Fiona and always get compliments on my name. People I'meet find my name unusual and always say they realy like it. Although, lately I have gotten lots of reactions such as "Fiona, like Shrek!"
Hi, Im 15 and from England. At first I didnt like my name because I thought Fiona was an old fashioned name, but its grown on me and now I wouldn't have any other name, mainly because its unique and makes me feel different, i am the only Fiona in my school of around,, 600 students. I prefer people to call me Fi, but the tend to spell it as Fii, smaller children usually call me Fona, probably because its easier to pronounce❤️❤️ One person calls be fona bona XD Im alright with it, as long as its only one person who calls me it, however it has developed since then'to boner, boney and now she calles me bones, and people have sort of picked it up. I hate being called Fifi because it just reminds me of a poodle, and im not really the'sort of person for cute and cuddly things (: Im glad my parents called me Fiona, its mainly because my mum wanted me to have a name that will be strong and mature, as it can suit any age. Havent had many spelling mistakes, apart from Feona. But its rare.
I am thinkin to name our doughter Fiona, I just love the name. But neither I nor my husband are scottish we are belarus and russian. I am a little confused. But i love the name!
hey my name is fiona it is ok to be named fion but when shrek came out people did use to take the mick as she turned into an orgar but im use 2 it by now and i get called ffion often or even pheobe which does get annoyng as its not my name i dont mind being called fi thou as its cute and thats what all my close friends and family call me. if your daughter will be called fiona then i think she will be happy but then again she may not as no one is ever happy with what they have!!xxXxx
Hi, I'm also Fiona. I'm 25 years old and live in Finland. In Finland Fiona is a quite rare name. When I was born, there were like 13 Fionas in the whole country. Nowadays there are like 400. Sometimes It's a bIt'strange to have a rare name, but I wouldn't change it. Never. I love my name.
I'm sixteen years old and my name is Fiona, and I loved it until Shrek came out because it was the pretty and rare name... but now I know a ton of 2 or 3 year olds who have It'so it is not as rare... but I still like it
Growing up in Canada, Fiona was an unsual name. Shrek has actually helped me. I feel that It's now not SOO bizarre as I felt when I was growing up. But if someone could tell me; I'meet people who swear they knew a Fiona that'started with a "Ph" (❤️❤️!). I don't beli've them! My experience with my name is the'same as another'submission; it was difficult growing up with something unusual but now I love it and get lots of compliments!
I love being unique and how my name is in many books! I also love how fiona from shrek is named FIONA! sooo cool!❤️<---- randommm! that is mee! also, if you r a fiona and random like meeeeeeeee than say HAYYYYYY GIRL at the end of your comment. (6 Ys
My name is Fiona and all my friends call me Fifi. All my baby cousins say my name wrong and it is adorable to me. I like having the name Fiona, even'though some people think that I was named after Fiona in Shrek, but I was named after the'singer Fiona Apple.
I named my daughter Fiona. She is 12 years old now and hates her name. I am so sad about that, because I love her name. I hate the'shrek association, since I named her before the movie came out. I had also picked that name before Fiona Apple came out. I spent a few of her early years clearing up the idea that I didn't pick her name from that'star. My mother and I chose the name after the movie The'secret of Roan Inish and from an announcer for the'show Thistle and Shamrock on Public Radio named Fiona Richey. I am surprised to see how many Fiona's have the'same nicknames that we use. She is known by family and friends as Fi and Noni and by some friends who don't know better as FiFi. I'made a point to all my family that'she was never to be called FiFi because of the poodle association. I am happy that I named her Fiona. I hope one day she comes to love her name for how special it really is given'to a very special person.
Hi,am Fiona, 22 yrs old,i live in nairobi, kenya.i go thro the'same problems al the other fiona's hv said. its kinda fun 2 knw my name is ancient! Last month a 17 month_old called me 'poma' it was fun
My name is Fiona, at first i had blond hair and white skin but when i grew older my hair turned more brown and my skin more... yellow kind of lol i am german, part native and part irish even.. barely lol people mention shrek when'they first meet me but that's it, people nick name me Fiona Bolonga or Fiona from Kabekona, Fifi, Fi, Fona, or even Fifi-ona -i have no problems with my name but i also really love the name Chloe- im gonna name my daughter that lol
My name's Fiona, but I used to get called "fifi" or "fi". I only know one other girl called Fiona, here in Switzerland, but you hear it. Soon after I was born and my name was published in the Newspaper there were lots of babies who were called Fiona. :) Bevor there were none ;) I love my name because its quite rare hear and I love to have a Scotish name, that remindes me about my Native country...
I still don't get whats so good about the name FIONA, names like Serena sound nicer.....
I LOVE my name! However, I'must admit that I wasn't so fond of it as a child. I always felt "unique" and left out....and I just wanted to fit in with the other kids! As a kid I used to pretend that my name was Jessica or Rachel or something more common. But, I am so grateful to have this name now. It's very pretty name, and I ALWAYS get compliments from people! For most people, It'seems that they hear it for the first time (other than from "Shrek".......yes, I get that a lot!) I have many nicknames, but the most common ones are: Fifi, Fi, Fio, Fifers.... :-)
my sisters names fiona and once shrek came out she became ogar :P
My name is Fiona, am Ugandan aged 26 and i love ma name'so much, I appreciate ma parents so much for the efforts they put in to give me Fiona name.Am proud of ma name. Thanks for your time.
fiona is my name and i love it! i live in england and come from kosova where fjona is a common name for girls.i think the name fiona rather than fjona is much more cooler and more inter'sting when i go back home to kosova.
i am fiona, irish, fair skinned and red headed how much more stereotypical can you get, as a child i hated my name but i have grown to love it although i do get some weird pronounciations finona being the most common
I am Fiona from Africa, Uganda. I love my name and very proud of it. Here in Africa, the name is not so common, therefore, i find the name Fiona very classy.
We named our daughter Fiona and we're really happy with it. Our older child couldn't pronounce Fiona so he called her "Finn" and It'stuck. Because of that, her nickname is Finn, which I think is really cute for now.
I'm 14 years old and im half polish and half scotish but i live in england, and i love my name . It'suIt's me so well, as it means "fair, pale", im actually blonde and have pale skin. I love its very unique, I only met one girl with the na Fiona, a very nice person. We always had a laugh especially when she was leaving our school. Now I'm the only Fiona in school. I get a few Shrek jokes but I dont really mind them, you get used to them and kind of stop noticing them. Most people call me Fiona, but the occasional FIFI or Shrek comes up. But I like my name I find it very elegant and beautiful. I'm already unique by being one of few natural blondes in school and now name adds to my uniqueness and many people remember my name more easilly then names like Katie, Emma and Jennifer. Thanks for reading! xx
My name is Fiona, I'm 24 from England and have hardly come across any other Fiona's. Am i the only one here that doesn't really like Fiona❤️ I like the fact It's uncommon but i find that It's uncommon because It's not a very nice name! Haha. Well i have recently made friends with another Fiona so maybe i will start to like it more❤️
My mother chose to name me Fiona, after her'scotish heritage. She told my father that'she would pick the first name, and he could pick the last. ;) Consequently, my last name is dutch, which ends up being a bit incongruous... But no matter. I was called Fifi in elementary school for a long time, but my friends call me Fi now.(Thank goodness) I do prefer to spell my name with the gaelic spelling, though: Fionnagh (but very few can pronounce it, nevermind spell it!) :) I imagine that I would be more fond of the name, if it wasn't mine.
I have always loved this Irish name and was alittle disappointed when Shrek made it popular...kind of like when my number one boy name got co-opted by Sex and teh City and shot to the top of the ratings.
HI'my name is Fiona. Im 10 years old. during sports I was called fee. I have never met someone else named Fiona. My little 3 year old cousin just learned how to say my name. 3 more to go. I love my name and have never disliked it.
yeah my name is haley and its okay I'mean its not the best name ever it doesnt really fit me haha so from now on im hailee i think its more charI'matic and edgy like me :) so yeah haley= okay not so great not really original but whatevs
I really like my name however people don't seem to know how to pronounce it. They call me Fyo-na instead of Fee-o-na. I really hate the way they say it and so I go by 'Fee' partially to get people to realise that it is the first of three syllables. I used to get a lot of, "How's Shrek," but people have begun to get over that. As A little kid I got Fifi and I NEVER failed to point out how much I hated that. At school I got, "Fifi and the flowertots," and that was used since last year as a bullying method (I'm fifteen and live in Scotland). i've only known one other Fiona and I hated that too. She was known as Fiona 1 and I was Fiona 2 which I hated because I like to be original. Being called the'second Fiona was heart breaking. When my name is pronounced correctly I love it and I love the ever going compliments that come with it.
I absolutely love this name. It is unique but not so rare that you dont know how to pronounce it. I searched tons and tons of names when my daughter was born. I really wanted a name that was sophisticated, had beautiful meaning, and sense of history. But I didn't want a name that was overly popular (like my name, Jennifer). So I when my daughter was born this summer, I named her Fionna. It's perfect! Even if some of my family members didnt like the name and, yes, they make "Shrek" references! But hey princess Fiona is a princess and so is my little girl ;) No matter how you spell it, Fiona/Fionna is a beautiful name!
It's pretty nice if you think of an Irish girl. Otherwise, it reminds me of a cat.
I have been called "Fi" most of my life, by family and friends. I have very rarely met someone with the'same name. The movie Shrek seems to have made it popular in North America these days, but as a child I hated my name because it was different, and I was shy. Now I LOVE it, and am always getting compliments about it.
My 6 y. o. daughter name is Fiona. She is American born half Russian and half Ukrainian. She likes her name very much. Go Fiona everywhere!!! Boston, MA
We are due with baby girl no.2 in Nov and I drempt that we named her Reagan Rilee and after calling her Ashlyn in my belly for the past 6 months, I'm thinking of changing!
My Name is Fiona known as Fi named by my father due to celtic connsctions. Wasn't many at school now more neice named after me she doesn't like it . ok for me though bye
HI'my name is Fiona and I'm 10 years old. My softball coach calls me Fi, but I like being called Fiona the best. My mom loved this name'since she was a child and always wanted to name her daughter Fiona. i've met a few people with my name but not many. My grandparents (3 of them) are Irish and I have pale skin & freckles and reddish-brown hair. I really like my name! I like reading about how rare it is in the U.S. - it makes me feel special.
My name is Fiona. I am a New Zealander with Scottish parents, and have auburn hair and really fair skin (and freckles). I hate my name being shortened to Fi, and tell people that it makes me feel like a poodle and liable to bite! Young children sometimes have a problem with my name, and my nieces call me 'Onie'. I am in my 40's, and have met relatively few people with my name, which I like. At school, my sister, Susan, had 5 people in one class with the'same name!
Hiya my name is Fiona Brianne. My mum was going to call ne Jordan Leanne but then her friends said its a boys name'so she changed it. On all my profiles I call myself Fi(i hate Fifi, It'sounds like adogs name) or just Fiona. I love my name and people always sat my name with my twins name is one FionaandKelita!!
HI'my name is also Fiona I get Fe, Fef, Fifi and Fi. I live in Scotland and it is quite a common name here. I have known many people called this throughout my life! I found when I have been'to America on holiday people there could not pronounce my name, but when'the'shrek fI'ms arrived there was no problems.
I Love the name Fiona! Recently I got my first dog. She is a beautiful long haired blue eyed Chihuahua. Strangers constantly come up to me and tell me she is the prettiest dog they have ever'seen. My Boyfriend hated the name I picked out so we for the most part call her.....yes you guessed it Fifi! When I tell strangers her name is Fifi they always say that is the perfect name for that dog.
My name is Fiona and I live in New Zealand. There are only a handful of Fiona's here. I once scored a job and was told by my boss at the time that he had two resumes to choose from and we both had the'same qualifications and experience. he'said the deciding factor was my name! He preferred my name to a woman named Lisa (sorry Lisa's out there) because he thought it made me sound intelligent and reliable.
I am 28 and from Ireland but have been'traveling for the last few years - I have to say i have not meet many Fiona's along the way - i used to get Fiona apple from Americans(i didn't know who she was they would always sing her'songs to me very annoying - then it moved on to princess Fiona kids love the name but you get a lot of sherk comments now i get asked do people call me fi as in Fiona from burn notice nicknames include fi fee fifi noni people always react warmly wen i tell them my name i live it to the name very pale with black hair and blue eyes the accent helps as well :)
My name is Fiona my parents are Scottish but I grew up in England where it is not so common. I am 46 and I have always loved my name.
I'm Fiona, I'm 17, I live in France, and I absolutely love my name. I get over the'stupid jokes about my name, jokes mostly because of Shrek but also because out here, the word "fion" means, in an informal way "butt" or "ass" --' I don't care about all those idiotic jokes x) Anyway, my mom told me it was hard for her to pick up names and having my daddy agreeing on it, and Fiona was the only name they both liked. So here I am :) She first thought it was Italian, then some friend of her told her it was a Celtic name x) I'm happy with that now since I love the English language. I do have some English origins, coming from my daddy, so I guess that's why it was the only name he liked XD I like my name because It's quite uncommon, (i've only met one girl at school whose name was also Fiona), because It's Celtic, & because it really suits me since i've got a white and pale skin x) Some people here have troubles pronouncing it, don't know why, they make You'repeat your name because they have no idea of what You're talking about, and most of the time, they don't get how to pronounce it XD I totally recommend this name for a baby girl ^^
My daughter is Fiona, born 2014. He had originally selected that name in 2009 for our first child, but he was boy, so we saved it for the next kid. I love the name and it works in French, English and Italian....we are trinlingual! The only problem is the'shrek comments, but those will fade as the movie gets old. She was named partly after Fiona Apple...not because we are fans or anything, just liked the name. I also had a chilhood friend with that name who was a cutie...so..Fiona loves her name! My parents were totally against it because they had some rotten Fiona in their past and it tainted the name! For those of you about to give birth, don't let the outside world influence your decision...choose it between'the two of you and don't ask for anyone's opinion...otherwise you will regret it. We wanted to name our 3rd child Damian, but everyone freaked out because of The Omen. so we chose James. It'suits him perfectly, but Damian would have been even better because he is a little devil!
My name's actually FIO, not Fiona, but i like it even more. friends don't have to think how to shorten my name, they call me simply Fio, or sometimes Fe, because my second name is Egle.
We named our second daughter Laken after Laken Capwell from "Santa Barbara". She refers to he'self as "Laken...like the Lake-in-Tahoe". People almost always mistake her name for Lincoln the first time they hear it.
this name is so cute!! i love it, and its so elegant on a woman and handsome on a man. i think Quincy is really nice also, It's a very Massachusetts kind of name. i think Quinn has become more popular for girls since the Glee character has this name : )
My name is Fiona and my best friend is called Fiona. We are both 23 and have 4 other friends called Fiona as well. I think it is a fabulous name and very Scottish. I hate being called Fifi - it puts me in mind of a french poodle and so I tell people to call me Fiona, Fi, Finoni or Fly. i've never had anyone refer to me as Princess Fiona from Shrek I doubt they would have lived to finish off the'sentence haha.
We named our daughter Frieda and are quite happy with it. It is a joyful name and people seem to like it and remember it. It's still unique unlike our other daughter Ruby who is known as Ruby, Kate, Ruby Kate, Katie because there are so many Rubys and Kathryns. We thought we were being very original with the name Ruby! The only thing is the'spelling - it might have been easier to use the'spanish spelling.
hey my name is fiona and i love it! i hardly meet people with that name'so it makes me feel a bIt'special. hey my nickname is also fifi and i like it plus all girls named fiona are gorgeous
I too am called Fiona, I never really to like it, I always thought it was old-fashioned. But now i have people commenting on what a nice name it it, so i've grown to like it!
I think the "F-I" sound is too harsh. Not to mention, the name reminds me of the ugly ogre on Shrek.
My name is Fiona an I am 46 years old I am Irish an live in Ireland my father called me this name because he adored it people would call me flo or Fi for short but family stick to Fiona as my father did not like to shortin my name I like my name an proud to be Fiona
I'm 35 and my name is Fiona, I'm Australian. It is not uncommon in Australia, but I find it rarer in the UK and in the US - many US people hear it for the first time. I think It's an elegant name and have always be thankful to be called 'Fiona' and not something horrifically Australian like 'Kylie'. I'm about to have my first baby and I'm thinking of Annabel for a girl and Samuel for a boy.
Hi, My name is Fiona. My friends call me Fee,Feline,Flea(because Im small) My Ma and sister and aunties call me Flossy. I live in Laois in Ireland. I only looked at this page today and im really spooked because I have transluscant white skin (but loads of freckles!) I love my name because it is unique. I only know one other Fiona. I thought there was not that many people named Fiona but now i know there are LOADS! :) Thanks For Reading My Thing About My Name!xxxxxxxx
I think that it would be true to say after 37 years the name Fiona has grown on me lol. I remember not liking it as a child, however now I love it. I do tend to go by FI'more then I do Fiona. I have a 6 year old daughter who has had a best friend since she was 2 at childcare. Her mother is named Fiona as well. Both the girls go to the'same school and in the past have been in the'same class, and we are both involved in reading at the'school and the'school council - so you can imagine that we have had a few strange looks when we have been standing together and have introduced ourselves, we generaly just laugh and tell them that we Fiona's travel in packs lol
im 18 and called fiona! ive only encountered someone with this name about 2 othe's times in person! and then as some of u said i also get the digs about shrek too :/ ummm ye people always tell me its a pretty name and im happy with it :)
I like my name (Fiona) but I HATE Fifi...Fi-fi-fo fum -I smell Fiona's bum! (I really hated that one!! Especially because I didn't smell! Not very fun when You're 8 or 9, but It's a better name than many. I too get 'Oh like Princess Fiona' ..good thing I liked Shrek! My bf's been called Shrek..lol!
This is going to be my baby girl's name when she is born. (Macy Rose) we have had mixed reactions - but I love this name.
I was one of three Fiona's in my class at high school an d we all had fair hair. I hated the name at the time. It is a fairly modern Scottish name i'vented by the author. The irish Fionn is much older. I however was named after a racehorse! Apparently 'Fiona's Star' was around in 1978. I wonder if my class mates parents were gamblers❤️ My parents tell me another horse they followed at that time was called 'Loppy Lugs' so I had a lucky break!
The usual BrIt'sh spelling of the name, which is unfortunately still mostly considered an old lady's name on the BrIt'sh side of the Atlantic (my late step-grandmother bore this name and it was her mother's name as well). Pet form Lily, however, is now popular world-wide when used on its own (in part with reference to the lily flower).
My name is Fiona. I am 11 years old. I love my name. I am the only one I know who has it.
There are many girls named Ines where I live too. It's a nice name and I like it.
We were looking for boys name for our second and "Caden" kept popping in a majority of the baby name'sIt's we visited, I really liked it but didn't want another "C" name as our first had a "C" name, someone suggested spelling it "Kaiden" pronounced simply "K-den". We didn't like It'spelt with a "K" at first but it grew on us. Like may othe's we hadn't heard of it either and liked that fact, so we called our son, once born "Kaiden Riley", we really like it and so does everyone else. I have heard of one other little boy with the'same name and spelt the'same too, so not very popular in Oz or NZ yet, hopefully it will stay that way!!
Hi, My name is Fiona, I love my name. I was the only Fiona in all throughout my school years. I am still the only one at my work place. i've had people spell my name as "Fionna". I am an Indian South African which makes the conversation rather inter'sting when people meet me and ask my name. My last name is Dutch which is more confusing. My mother named me after hearing a Fiona on the radio. i've been'to Scotland and it was great not having to repeat my name for people to remember. So, when my son was born I named him LI'm (which is Irish) and he has a Dutch last name. My nieces are quiet jealous that I am a Princess :)
My name is Fiona and I have never had any issues with spelling or otherwise. I have more problems with my surname Dhu. Just for trivia Fiona means fair and Dhu means dark or black.
My daughter's name is Fiona Ann. We chose "Fiona" after the main character in the movie "The'secret of Roan Inish". We are Americans but both families have Irish blood in them. My Fiona has red hair, brown eyes and adorable freckles. I do not like anyone calling her "Fi" or worse, "FiFi". Her brother likes to tease her'sometimes though with those nicknames. So far, she is the only girl in her'school (probably the town) with the name "Fiona".
I am 24 and I adore my name! I particularly love it because I think it is an ageless name and will never'sound silly calling a toddler, child, teen, adult and old lady Fiona. I am a 2nd-gen Australian born Greek living in England (phew!) and i've always found it a name that is not common but not unusual so i've never had trouble with peoples spelling and pronunciation. It's also a great name because It'spawns so many cute nicknames! Most people call me Fee, my sister calls me Feef or Fee-Fee (alot of people here seem to have a problem with it but I don't!), my aunty calls me Fee-Fi (like Hi-Fi), my housemates call me Feeski. I would definitely recommend calling your daughters Fiona, It's a great name and I'm glad my parents gave it to me!
It's the name I chose for my daughter, so obviously I think It's lovely.
I love the name fiona! I'm thankful that thats what my mom called me.its such a pretty name!!!
Fiona doesn't mean 'pretty', it means 'fair' ..as in 'fair haired' (blond) (I'm Irish, and this is my name)
Our daughter Fiona was born in 2020 and it turns out she has pale skin and red hair. Perfect (Fiona means fair, beautiful)! Her cousin cant say Fiona so she coined the nickname baby Nona, and It'stuck. We get a lot of "oh like Shrek" comments. I wish they would stop making those stinking movies. I think Fiona Apple is working on a new album so maybe people will think of her instead. :)
My oldest daughter'selected Fiona for my youngest daughter. She is named after the Princess in Shrek. We call her "Fi" or "Ona" or "O", with "Ona" being used most often.
My name is Fiona and I am 13 and proud to have a Celtic name. I am Irish/scottish and I love it. I used to hate it and wanted another name until I learned more about Ireland and places near it and how amazing it was. Fiona means "Pale, clear, or fair" and I am very fair-skinned, so It'suits me. I used to have people pull the whole "princess fiona from Shrek" thing on me and I hated it but now not so much as i've learned to live with it! lol People call me lots of things-- Fi, Fifi, even Fiferoni and I would rather just be called Fiona because as someone mentioned earlier it does sound like a poodle name... but I live with it. I have never met anyone else at my school named Fiona or anywhere else where I live for that matter but I'm proud of it. After'seeing the pixar movie Brave about a Irish/Celtic princess I was happy to have an Irish name and now I appreciate it more. Its grown on me I guess. :) Some people accidentally spell it Feona or Fionna or something like that but its ok. It's pretty easy to pronounce so people normally don't get it wrong which is nice. People remember my name because it is uncommon, unique, and they say it is a beautiful Celtic name. I agree!
My name is Fiona (middle name Judith) and I am of Gaelic decent. I was born in 1998 and know a few other Fiona's as the name Isn't that unusual where I live. My nicknames are Fi or Nona. I really like my name, It'suited me as a child and is memorable when I am now dealing with international clients as it Isn't common but people do tend to know how to spell it properly. I think It's a solid name and suits quite a few personality types - I'm a feisty / firey Fiona :)
my name is Fiona, and all of my friends either call me fi or fifi...and that bugs me!!
hey my name is fiona but im known as fefe by my friends nd fi by my family i love me name cos its unique nd quite a modern name as only i'vented in the 19th century. So far i have only met 1 person with the name fiona. I always get asked how to spell my name and someone spelt it with phiona which was funny
Hi, my name is Fiona and I'm 50 years old from the UK, now living in the U.S. My nickname was also Nonie growing up. I am fair and blonde. Most commonly people spell my name Pheona - love that on my Starbucks cup! I have met several other Fiona's but I think Shrek really popularized our name.
I am 14 years old and absolutley adore my name! My mother's side of the family is Irish and I have fair skin and chocolate hair, so I do justice to my name!
Hello, my name is Fiona. I was the only Fiona in both my primary and secondary schools. I have always hated my name being shortend but wht can you do people hve actually taken'to calling me Feline. Which is pretty weird but hey in my opinion its better than "Fee-Fee". Once when on holidays in greece no one had ever heard of my name before which i liked. Though since Shrek came out i have found that it has become more popular... who on earth would even consider naming their lil bundle of joy after an ogre. LOL xoxo
We just found out we're having a baby. Been'trying to months and the first name out of daddy's mouth for a boy... BARRON!
My oldest is named Fiona. Her middle name is Elora-Rayne and I absolutely love the name. She was born in 2013 and shortly after her birth Shrek came out and in came all the'shrek jokes and comments. She has several nicknames, family all call her Nonie, but she has several friends who call her Fin. I never called her Fi-Fi as I have tiny fluffy dogs and that is more of a dog name to me. Her father is Scandinavian and I am a mixture of Native American/Irish and German. My daughter takes after her father and is snow white with light hair as well. The name'suits her well and I am glad I did not name her Pandora. LOL. Go Fiona!!!
My name is Fiona. I live in the north east of England near Scotland but I still find my name to be quite uncommon. In my 26 years I have only met two other Fionas. I have to say I really do like my name. I reci've a lot of nice comments about it, my Doctor told me that it is the most pretty and feminine name'she had ever heard! That cant be a bad thing. I get a lot of funny nicknames, Fee, Fee fee, Fi, Fifi, Feefy, Feefy, FeeBee (My last name is Brown) and my Mam likes to call me Feedle (strange I know)The only negative thing I can say about my name is that it is now associated with Princess Fiona from Shreck!
I am Fiona. I like more and more as I get older. It doesn't age and suits little girls just as well as It'suits old ladies. It is definately not common and in my whole 12 years of school there was only 1 other Fiona that I came across. I'mostly get called Fee which is by people who don't know me well but think they do! I have always been Fiona to my family. I have a good friend who calls me Nona but don't ask me why! I am quite pale with dark hair so I guess that's why my mum picked it - well actually my Grandma did. I am glad they listened to her. :)
My fiancee likes the name Fiona.. it is unique
My name is Fiona and I am from India. I love my name and I think its very beautiful and thanks to the movie "Shrek" everybody refers to me as Princess Fiona. People do call me Fi, Fion and even Fio, but that's alright with me. I love them all. The only thing that annoys me is that not many of them can pronounce neither'smell my name correctly and that's why I prefer them calling me Fi. It makes things simpler and easier.
I'm a Fiona & think it is ridiculous small minded people trends like a fI'm. I have always liked my name because it was a little more unusual. Fiona is a traditional Scottish name which then crossed over to Ireland much later. People should be aware if they call a child Fiona children at school ALWAYS call you FIFI, I always find this a bit irritating! Choose a name because you like it not because of the colour of the childs hair or after a cartoon character - for goodness sake be an individual not a sheep by following othe's!!
Fiona is a beautiful name
Hi, I'm 13, and my name is Fiona. I have blonde hair and really light skin, so the name really fits. Every adult says its really pretty, but other kids and some adults still use the Princess Fiona. It gets so old! I'mean, why did those movI'makers have to choose Fiona as the princess's name out of all names❤️ Ugh....I have many different nicknames. My old one was Fifi, but only a few people still call me that. My current ones are Finona, Finonanum,Fonum, Fi, and Fognum. I also get Fee Fi Fo Fonum...the kids at my school are very creative :)
My name is Fiona, I am 14 years old and for awhile I didn't like, now I adore it especially because it is used in movies like Brigadoon and The'secret of Roan Inish. I get Shrek Comments and hate it people go as far as to call me Princess Fiona. But whatever, It's an awesome Scottish/Irish name that goes with my ethnicity.
I named my daughter Fiona in 2011 and am so glad I did. It's the perfect name for a sweet girl or a lovely lady. She is very fair-skinned and has a rather fey personality, and It'suits her well. She's pretty happy that we didn't name her Katrina, which is the other name we considered at the time ;-).
my name is Fiona Claire i love my name. Most people consider it classy. Ideal for a child or adult.
hI'my name is fiona haha I'm 13 I think I'm the only fiona where I live lmao this guy I know always says that he's shrek(: I love my name!!
We named our daughter Fiona Gael. We are of Irish, Welsh, and German descent. We call her Fig or FiG (fee-gee, her J-Lo name!), but not Fi or Fee or FiFi. Only one friend of ours is allowed to call her FiFi. Fiona is a beautiful name and It's relatively rare in the U.S.
Not sure, I get called Fee and I'much prefer it to fiona, its a bit like helen, very boring!
I'm Fiona, Im irish & lived in Ireland all my life. It's actually quite a common enough name, I had two other Fiona's in my class in school. For a while as a teenager I spelt it the Welsh way, Ffyona. i've always been known as Nonie to family and friends, a common nick name for Fiona's in Ireland (pronounced no nee), the nickname means Daisy in Irish. Ive also been called an irish alternative by friends Fiadh (pronounced fee-ah) Fee, Feekles and Freckles!
My name is not Fiona- It's emily, but Fiona is my favorite girls name. So instead of changing my name, I will name my daughter Fiona. But if I only have boys, then maybe I'll change my name; or name a boy Fiona... HaHa that would be so mean! Somebody will be named Fiona!
My name is Fiona and I am sixty years old! It became a popular girls name in England during the late 1962s, and I was not the only Fiona in my class at school. I am from the north of England and of Scottish & Irish descent, my mother liked the name, and that's why I was given it. The oldest Fiona I have known was a lady in her 80s, who I'met over 20 years ago, so she would have been given'the name'sometime pre WW2, I think.
I am a Fiona, also known as Fee in my family and to close Irish friends. Fiona is a very common name in Ireland, there were 4 in my uni class. I was known there as FeeG. In the US it is an unusual name, although less so know, people are always commenting on how nice It'sounds. I used to find It'strange how unusal it was there, considering it is common at home. Since Shrek more people know it, especially in non English speaking countries. The best thing about the name is that it cant be changed in other languages. We live in Spain, and is It'still Fiona here, prenounced the'same way. People can spell it! A nice blessing not thought about by my mother I am sure :-)
My father is from Ireland and my mother is from Scotland and they always loved the name, Fiona. I was born 30 years ago and I have only met one other Fiona and she is of Indian descent. I love my name but I only allow my family members to call me Fifi because it reminds me of a French poodle!
hI'my name is Fiona i am 10 years old i once felt lonely knowing that my name was uncommon but i learned to respect that but very few people make fun of me by my name
We are expecting a baby girl, and we have chosen Genevi've for the middle name. We think its a very lovely name, and goes nicely with the'short first name that we've picked.
I was born in the mid-70s in Australia to an Irish father and an Aussie mother. They wanted to call me Siobhan but feared that I would be dogged by a life of having to spell out my name to people or correct mispronunciation. So they settled on calling me Fiona. I have always hated my name. I didn't meet another Fiona until I was in my teens and I now know quite a few. I prefer being called Fi or Fifi because the Australian pronunciation of Fiona can sound very whiney and I find it grating.
Love it :-) I think It's an intelligent name if that makes sense ...I get "feefs" , "fi" , "fifi" and "nonie" from time to time tho
My name is Fiona Katherine and I love it! I am 12 years old and I live in Arizona. I find the'shrek jokes annoying when people find out that my name is Fiona. I love my name because it is a unique and beautiful name. It is 347th on the popularity poll for 2020 in the United States. I also like to be called "Fi".
Hey my name is Fiona too! I thought I was the only one...and plus thanks to "Shrek" everybody threatens my saying im married to an ogre XP Im so suprised that all these people are named Fiona!!! CHEERS TO FIONA'S EVERYWHERE!
My daughter's name is Sara Fiona. We call her Fiona and It'suits her. She is fair skinned and adorable. I sometimes call her Fi (fee).
