Makala is a beautiful Name it is the name of my duaghter. I have had no problem with people no knowing how to say or spell her name. i have ran in to a few people with the name makala or have a child with this make. . It is pronouned just like it is spelled.
This is my name and I absolutely adore it. The only bad thing is that most people forget the e when'they spell it. But I usually just tell them It's like Abbey Road, and they get it right after that.

I am 29 yrs. old and my name is Makala. I absolutely love my name, it is unique and original, and I haven't had too much trouble with people being able to read and say it. This particular spelling is Hawaiin in origin, and actually means myrtle. I like it better than the run of the mill Michaela's, which is really just a feminized version of Michael. Which is strangely enough my only siblings name, hmmm.
i pronounce it ma KAY la. My substitute teache's pronounce it mackaluh sometimes. i have met 5 other makalas with my spelling but currently i know a michaela. whenever we go around school together people say "makayla" and we both look and its annoying especially when we have the'same class. sometimes we have a competition to see whoes name the'sub says right when we have the'same class.
Please understand that there is no right or wrong way to say a name. A name is given'to a person and it is part of their identity. If you want to know how a name is spelled or pronounced then you have to ask the person with that name. It their name'so they can spell it or say it anyway they want. Yes my name is MAKALA and it is prounounced Makayla. I tell people this the first time I'meet them so that they understand. I am a boy and have had not problems. People are pretty cool here in California.

I have a beautiful 9 year old daughter whom I named Makala. I am considering changing the'spelling of her name because I do not want her to go through the annoying experience of teaching people how to pronounce her name as I had. With my name being french, Bone't; most people will I'mediately pronounce it as bonnet.
