Nena was my darling granny's name, is my middle name and is now my daughter's name. We pronounce it knee-na as in Nina. Not neh-na or nay-na as other cultures (Spanish❤️) use it. Our version of Nena is a spelling variant of Nina and is pronounced the'same, although I could not say which spelling came first, Nena or Nina. Nena (knee-na) was certainly in use in Australia circa 1900 as my grandmother was named after another Nina with an E. As this lady was of English origin we can only assume the name and spelling came over from England somewhere in the 1800s or possibly earlier. Everyone who has met the generations in our family love what they see as the uniqueness of the'spelling. We are all of English origin and love/loved (rest in peace granny) our name.
