The name "Parker" holds a special significance and has an interesting meaning behind it. Derived from the English language, the name "Parker" originally referred to someone who was a park keeper or guardian. It is derived from the Middle English word "park," which means an enclosed area for recreation or hunting.
Those with the name Parker are often associated with qualities such as being protective, responsible, and reliable. They have a natural inclination towards nurturing and caring for others, much like a park keeper would care for the well-being of a park.
In addition to its historical meaning, Parker has become increasingly popular as a given name in recent years. Its modern usage extends beyond gender boundaries, making it suitable for both boys and girls.
If you or someone you know bears the name Parker, embrace its meaningful origins and let it serve as a reminder of your innate qualities as a caretaker and protector.
Personality
Romance is the hallmark of the Six personality. Young leaves have nurturing, loving and caring energy. Six are enamored with the idea of love in its idealized form - and with their magnetic personalities, they easily draw people to them. Like the number two of the personality, they seek balance and harmony in their life and the world in general. They are conscientious and service-oriented, and a defender of the weakest. These personalities naturally attract money and are usually surrounded by precious material objects - but their human relationships are always primary. They thrive on giving to others rather than being motivated by their desires. This is when they accomplish great things. Six are natural teachers, ministers, and counselors.
Popularity
Parker is a unisex name in America; although it is slightly more popular with boys than with girls (fathers are five times more likely to name their sons than their daughters). For boys, the name has been in use for over 150 years, but it wasn't until the 1990s that Parker caught on. Although not trendy yet, Parker managed to gain Top 100 status on the male naming charts in 2009, which he has been able to maintain to this day. For girls, the name only debuted in 1999, but it continues to show forward momentum. As Parker began to show promise for young children, some American parents decided to snatch the name away for their daughters. The use of unisex names for girls has been a continuing trend in America for the past twenty years, so expect to see Parker finally surpass the popularity of her male counterpart at some point in the not-too-distant future. Parker is also a great choice for jazz-loving babies and parents, in a nod to the great Charlie Parker (1920-1955).

I have always loved this on a girl. It's not terrible on a boy, but for some reason, it has a much perkier, preppier, sharper'sound for a girl. I imagine an upbeat, snobby, prep school girl named Parker. It's very similar to the vision I have of a girl named Blair. It's also uncommon, but not ugly, dowdy, or weird. A very fine choice for a girl if you ask me.
Great Masuline Strong easy to say Name , Respecful Name , Love the Name Parker ,my New Grandson. Nice to be different, X
We named our son Parker Noah and its perfect for him! We get compliments on his name all the time. The only thing that bothe's me is when parents name their daughters with masculine names. If you look up Parker 98% of boys have this name, so please don't name your girl Parker. Besides, you'd never'see a boy named Alice or Amanda, why step all over boys names❤️
When I have a son I want to name him Parker Issac cause I just love this name and I like that it is unique.
Super name for a girl ... took my wife a while to have confidence to call our daughter Parker ... 6 weeks on NO REGRETS we love the name ... and people's reaction to it. Older generation puzzled, younger people love it. Sounds great alongside any middle name ... we choose Parker Erin. Also, love the way young children just acceot the name, they have no preconceptions, unlike older folk ... ;-) If you like the name for a girl, just go for it nd ignore any negative comments you may here .... We are in the UK by the way, so much more uncommon name over here ...
We are naming our baby girl Reagan Elizabeth - partly because we both loved Ronald Reagan, but love the'sound of the name - It's unique, but not difficult to spell.
My son's name is Parker and my husband's father's name is Parker. My husband's grandmother's maiden name was Parker'so you can see Parker is a family name for us. Until my son was named Parker the only other Parker we knew was my father-in-law. Not true now. My son went to 2 different birthday parties and at both parties there was a different Parker. I guess the name of Parker is becoming quite common. My son loves his name. I think his name is a strong name for a male.
I love the name Parker and if I have a boy (I am 12 weeks preg) I will name him Parker. Just have to decide on a middle name.
my son's name is parker, after 5 years I still love it! No regrest here!
I named my daughter Parker and it is beautiful. Anyone who think it is inappropriate ought to mind one's own business! How terrible to tell a little girl, "You have a boy's name!" Tell me, the father, who chose the name, that you think I'made a poor choice; leave my darling, wonderful daughter out of it. Shame!
My son's name is Parker David Baer. My wife's maiden name was Parker and my Father and Grand Father's name is David. So, we were going with the whole family tradition name game. We love his name, It'suits him very well!
i only know two people named parker'so it is not that common but that is good
My youngest sons name is Parker WillI'm born in 2015! I had NO idea it would be so common then, but a few years ago Pottery Barn used that name on sone of their customized items, then I KNEW it would be common place!:(
We named our daughter Quinn after much debate and absolutely love it! It fits her perfectly!! We did get some negativity about not naming her'something "girly" but I think it is beautiful and so cute!
Our daughter was born in June 2015 and Parker was the only name we could agree on for our litte girl. We didn't want a popular girl name, and everyone we meet absolutely loves her name!
Not knowing for nine months whether we were having a little girl or boy, we were ecstatic when Parker arrived in the world at 8lb 9 on 28/10/2018, everyone comments what a lovely name and how unusual - hey, not at all common in the UK, we surely do have one unique individual :-)
My great grandson is named Parker. I was not so sure about the name when I first heard it. Now, I can not imagine him with any other name. It fits him so well. I have a habit of referring to him as the 'Parkster'. He is 2 now, so that will stop soon.
Love the name! Gave my daughter that name in 2007. Very powerful name!!
I named my son Parker after his great-grandfather Winslow PARKER Lewis. Great name for him! I just love it!
My boys name will be Parker Allen (allen being the middle name). My wife and I fell in love with the name, and it's not that common. It ranks 108 on the social security list of most popular baby names for 2007. It might crack the top 100 for a year or two, but probably not for an extended period of time. So look at it this way, your boy or girl will always know someone it talking to them when someone yells, "Parker." Not so with my friends named John, Marc (that's me), and the like. I also liked Landon but my wife did not.
We are planning to use this name for our first born son... he will be Elias Joseph. This is a family name of mine.. a surname. My great-great-grandfather was Joseph Alejandro Elias.. so the baby will be named after him.
My dad was born in 1907 and his name was Parker, my son, Christopher, named his son Parker in honor of my father.
My two year old son is named Parker. At the time, I did not know of one other person named Parker. He goes to an in-home daycare with one boy and two girls....and the other little boy is Parker. I have noticed it more and more lately (maybe selective perception) but, I agree, validation of a good strong name! His middle name is WillI'm, which I commonly see with Parker.
my baby girls name is Parker Marie, i love that name. its so out of the blue
I love the name Parker! More for a girl than a boy. I have a granddaughter named Parker Grace. We hear more positive about her name than negative.
I decided to name my daughter Parker and I love her name. Because her name is unisex I decided to give her a more feminine middle name, Parker Monroe. People often assume she is a boy when I schedule her appointments, but It's nothing too major. If you like the name don't listen'to othe's opinions, It's a lovely name.
I dont know anyone named Parker, but i love the name, it reminds me of an edgy outgoing guy, but its cute for a girl too
My son's name is Parker. He is the 7th Parker. We call him "Parks" for short from time to time. It fits him well and continues the family line of Parkers.
this is my toddlers name and i too got it from the movie "my girl"-- It's perfect for her and It's not popular at all and i hope It'stays that way!!!
My son's name is Parker and I regret naming him Parker. Due to its increasing popularity I think i've doomed my son into being called Parker "O" once he begins school.
Easy to spell, easy to say, a true classic high-end name.
My new grandson is named Parker. My son and his wife did not reveal the name ahead of time and I'must say I really liked the name when I first heard it.
I cannot picture Parker as a girls name. It reminds me of an athletic guys name... I guess if I knew a female Parker, perhaps my opinion would change.
I am 25 and my name, Parker, always gets compliments, it is a family name. I love my name and I like the fact that when someone reads my resume before meeting me, they do not know my gender, nor does my name make me sound ditsy, this way I feel like there are no preconceived notions about who I will be. I do think that my name helps me out in the class room and when I am meeting potential employers, most don't forget my name, and they can't confuse me with someone else. I think that it is the perfect name for a girl who does not fit the girly girl mold; it is for a girl with a bit of tom boy in her blood, lots of ambition and high goals in life.
I read Marc's comment, and I just had to put my comment on here. My son is 3 and his name is Parker Allen (my mom's maiden name was Allen). We chose Parker since it is not a common name as well and my name is all too common.
My 21 month old is Parker Gage. We love it! We also have a daughter named Ayden Layne, we don't care if people like what we name out children! Lol!
Definitely more masculine sounding. Sounds like a jock or a popular kid in school.
Grandson - named "Parker", We like it... ,but a couple of "negative" comments from "uptight" too opinionated relatives (especially one that is approx 50 yrs old and still thinks/lives like he's 25 (maybe he'should concentrate on his own problems and stop trying to create problems for "happy" & "content" people. Don't care if the kid's name is Bozo - We'd still love him!!!
My name is parker and i think It's cool and im 13 some kids in my school want it

My 6 year old daughter is named Parker.named her when she was just a bump and we didn't know the gender yet. Paired it with a more feminine middle name "Ainsley". Reaction has benn 100% positive. Do always have to say "Parker....a Girl" when giving info over the phone or something like that. But its always "that's a cool name for a Girl. I think It'sounds strong and confident. And its catching on.
Our 2 year old is named Parkar. My husband thought the name was fairly original and wanted the'spelling to be unique too. Great name! It's a very strong name for a boy. Where we live (Montana), not too popular so hopefully it may stay that way. Thumbs up to all who name their child (boy or girl) Parker.
i love the name parker for a girl and want my first daughter to be called it. but when i tell people they say It'should be for a boyu and not a girl. i think parker for a boy sounds too feminine.
My daughter is 17 months old and I named her Parker. She'still has no hair so when I talk about her and say Parker they always refer to HER as HIM. It's okay. I don't mind. I love the name for my little girl.
I named my son Parker because I didn't want him to have several other kids with the'same name in his kindergarten class. Plus, we have a simple, one-syllable last name that needed a more formal first name.
My daughters name is Parker Kate. She was going to be Parker if she was a boy or girl! We love that It's a little different!
My daughters name is Parker. She was born in 2021. Older generations definitely looked confused when I tell them. There is also a lot of clarifying that Parker is a girl when making appointments etc. If you can handle these minor inconveniences then you will enjoy the name for a little girl.
Love the name Parker for a girl. Honestly I am not sure why people would ever consider it for a boy. It's definitely a fun, quirky girl name. And yes, my daughter's name is Parker. =)

My name is Parker Jamison Brattain, i was born in June 2000 and live in orange county,ca. This name is not all that common, even here in southern california where there is alot of unique names, which is perfect, its used just the right amount. People call me patrick sometimes or the occasional peter, but all in all i love this name because usually people wont forget it the first time you say it and when you do first introduce yourself peoples ears kinda perk up like a little shocked that my name is parker but in a good way i guess, it gets their attention and they are intrigued almost more by me i guess. My friends tend to call me parks but girls will usually always call me parker, its a good name that over the years i have been more and more proud to have!!!I love the ocean too more than anything!!!

My little sister's name is parker, and it bugs me when people say It's a boys name. i've met a million girls named Parker, but never any boys named Parker... As far as the whole "masculine vs. feminine" thing goes, I can't imagine a boy being named Parker, It'sounds girly to me.
My daughter who is almost 5 is named Parker Elisabeth, I get a ton of complements on her name. And it is so fitting for her, I find it a bit to prissy on a boy.
It's my first name, love it! It gets awkward at times though, my last name is a popular first name now and on registries it often gets switched.
Will be the name of my new grandson when he is born. Everyone loves it, because Jackson has become too popular where we live. I'm sure if people don't see it in print, they will probably spell it wrong. But we all love It'so much, we don't care. We'll just correct them.
I absolutely adore the name Parker. It is such a great name. Not super common, but just a great overall name.
My 2nd granddaughter is due in a week and when mom can't decide on a name that dad would like she tells him to find a name. He throws out Parker, no reason it just comes out, mom says that's a cute name, I like it. Everybody we tell thinks It's perfect. Unique and very cute. So we research it a bit. But when'the 3 year old says Parker's my sister, It'sounds too irresistible. Lots of pretty names but all are too common. You can't go wrong.
Our new grandson is being named Parker Aaron Wallace.. being a former teacher, I think I understand the minds of elementary students and how they are prone to tease other classmates. I am wondering if Parker at some point should have a weight problem, would the name Parker lend itself too easily to being called Porker or Porkie❤️ just wondering....

We named our son Parker because my husband was looking for something different. His middle name is Reed (after a family friend that had passed away.) He was born in 2013 and at the time we had not heard of anyone else with that name. Since then we have run across a few people that also have boys named Parker. He is still the only one in his grade at his school.
My sons name is Parker WillI'm Irving. It really sounds like he is going to be famous!
I love the name and we are considering naming our child Parker. One comment that'stuck out was pointing out "porker" being used to tease the child if he is overweight. I hadn't thought of that. It's a validd point.

I know this name has become fairly popular, but my son is named Parker and he is the only one we know of so far. It depends on where you live, but I couldn't think of a better name for him. I think Parker is a very distinguished name for a young man, with still some edge (not being too traditional). Even now I am thankful that I chose such a perfect name for him and he loves it.

Becoming too popular, My son's name is Parker and there are several other Parkers in his Gymboree, little Gym,....classes. He was born in 2018. Everyone gave me the weird looks too when I first announced both of their names like "I thought you said it was a girl". I also got a lot of "how is he" and "is he doing this yet" at the doctors office. I just let them keep going until they pull the diaper off and then laught on the inside when'they seem surprised.
