I was given'this name by my parents who liked the formal name Pamela but not the nickname Pam. The Tammy movies had just came out in the 60's and wanted my nickname to be Tammy. So they combined the names to form Tamala, not with an 'e'. It has given me some grief over the years with someone trying to pronounce it, but the upside is that if they don't know me, they can't pronounce it correctly. With all the different spellings of names now a days, It's not uncommon to have a name that is different. Back in the early '70's it was uncommon.
I named a character in one of my stories Tamala, just because it came to mind and fit the character. I got a lot of questions about her name, and the one that came up most was, "Why would you give a character'such a strange name❤️" Honestly, the name just jumped into my head and It'stuck, and I never decided to change it. I never thought anything about it. But when I got so many questions, I decided to look it up, popularity-wise, or if the name even existed. Well, the name's not popular, but It's not unheard of. Who knows❤️ Maybe there'll be a Tamala Harris in my future.
