The roots of Teagan come from an Irish surname. In the Gaelic language "O Tadhgain" meant the descendant of Tadhgan". As a personal name, Tadhgán is a diminutive of “taTadhgwhich meant "poet" in the old Irish. So this name can refer to the children of a poet. The original form started as a name for a clan. Then, Teagan came into use as a last name. Americans took this one step further and used this name as a first name. Americans first used this name in a unisex manner but it moved into the feminine territory eventually. Americans have a long history of changing Irish surnames into first names. Names such as Sullivan, Finnegan, and Keegan are other examples of such names. Teagan sounds similar to Tegan, but they are completely different and have different roots.

People seem to get really bent out of shape over rather Teagan is a girl's or boy's name. These days the gender line for names is becoming so blurred I don't think it matters (i.e. Jordan, Logan, Jamie, Avery, etc.) We are having a girl and her name will be Ainsley Teagan which I think is beautiful.
Teagan is a girls name, my name is Teagan Rose and I love it. It means beautiful and I think that it sounds girly(but thats just my opinion). I have never met anyone else named Teagan boy or girl so I guess it doesnt really matter to me. Though no one I've ever met thought it sounded like a boys name.
My name is teagen and I was born on 2016 Feb 8 and I love the name cause no one else really has it
I have a 14 month old daughter and I named her Teagan Rhianna. The Teagan is part of my maiden name which is Teague and the Rhianna is not after Queen of the fairies. I love the name but then again its part of my name anyway.
I named my son Teagan because my husband and I both love Irish names and thought this was the perfect name for him. I had never heard it before until I named my son but have now heard it used several times for girls! This surprised me becasue we found the name in a baby name book under boys but not for girls. Either way, it is a unique name and we love it for our baby boy!
My three old son's name is Teagan and I absolutely love it! It's unique and I think It's more slightly fitting for a boy. :)
Teigan is the name of my son, born in 2009. My husband and I wanted a nice Irish name for our son and Teigan fit the bill. I do hear it around as a girl's name, it can go either way.
I love the meaning. But I would feel very uncompfortable naming my child that. So this is what I call my new kitten. I pronounce it differently and spell it Taygen.

I named my 8 month old son Tagen. I have actually never met someone with the name, but my sister has a friend whose last name is Teagen. I heard the name and loved it, he was actually very excited about the change is spelling since people were always pronouncing his last name wrong. and I like it better as a boys name but I chose to name the baby Tagen before i found out the sex.
I think it sounds better as a girls name but it could go both ways, its kinda like one of those unisex names that's perfect for both, like Cameron or Erin/Aaron.
i really like this name for a boy or a girl its cute ^^
