The name Abner is of Hebrew origin and it translates to "Father of light". In the Bible, Abner was a cousin to Saul and the commander of his army (1 Samuel 14:50). Posthumously, he was recognized as a valiant warrior and an honorable man. The name is thus often associated with qualities of leadership, courage, and honor, in addition to its literal meaning.
The origin of the name Abner is Hebrew. It first appears in the Old Testament of the Bible, where Abner was the cousin of King Saul and the commander of his army. Despite the tragic end of his story - killed in a time of peace after a lifetime of war - Abner was depicted as a righteous and honorable warrior. After the Reformation, it became a common name among the Puritans and has been in use ever since.
Abner has been used throughout history, notably in the 19th century America. It was also the name of a famous American baseball player, Abner Doubleday, often (though erroneously) credited with inventing the game. In literature, Abner Snopes is a character in William Faulkner's short story "Barn Burning".
As for the personality traits associated with the name Abner, individuals with this name are often perceived to be strong leaders with a sense of righteousness and justice. They are seen as courageous, loyal, and reliable - much like the biblical figure.
In terms of popularity, Abner is not a very common name today. However, its rich history and unique meaning make it an attractive choice for parents seeking a distinctive and meaningful name for their child.

Well according to what i've been'told, if, in the bible, you are refering to the'saint, then it is actually spelt Rachael, not Rachel. And the original spelling of the name is 'Rachael' too. It's a Hebrew name meaning 'ewe' (female sheep). My name is Rachael too and othe's always spell it wrong (or even'tell me that It's not a real name!!).
My grandson's name is Abner. This is really a novel name to us. I hope there may n't be any other Abners in Kerala. With this unique name my grandson will always be n'ted. My grandson is ,of course ,the LIGHT OF OUR FAMILY now. May God bless him.
My name is Abner. It is never'spelled nor pronounced incorrectly. I have NEVER met an'ther Abner (A goal that I hope to one day achi've). Very briefly, I think the name Abner is an excellent choice yet risky and one which takes patience to love. As a child I hated my name but I grew into it and also appreciate it and love it. I always get "I have never me an'ther Abner before". It's original and people remember you. I also feel that I don't look or act like an "Abner" (I know, what does that mean❤️). People do have conceptions of what an "Abner" will be like. Fortun'tely, I don't fit the cliché of a "nerd" or "red-neck" or old-fashioned" or any of the words that i have heard used to describe my name. An'ther name that'seems to generate the'same sentiment is Poindexter. I like being juxtaposed to my name. In'tead of being an'ther Josh, Zach or Matt, I am Abner an individual.
