Derek is my name. Its quite amusing seeing how many ways its spelled when I visit different places like salons or when classmates spell it. Derik is probably the ugliest spelling while one classmate spelled it dyrek (I thought that was very unique). I'meet quite a few dereks but hey its not bad being a "great ruler" or "ruler of the people"!
I love my name Derek, it doesn't rhyme well so nobody can say stupid things like stop lyin ryan or something❤️. I find It'some what rare running or meeting a stranger named Derek, but there were 3 othe's in my high school. I have found that when I see a Derek or Derrick on television or a movie they are usually "black". Most all the time people spell my name wrong, especially at Starbucks ;)

I spent a lot of time combing over baby names for my son. I wanted him named after me, but not with the exact same name. I love the fact that I go by Rick and chose his name to be the Gaelic spelling of Derek. We are American with Irish descent and I love our heritage. So, my son is named Darroch.

Do not care for the name at all.....just go w Eric, forget the D!
Sounds like an all-American boy who goes to High School in, say, Los Angeles in California. The name only became popular in the United States in the Eighties, when Eric was also popular. It was virtually unknown, however, in the days of the nowadays pinochle-playing Murrays and Miltons and was still pretty rare in the Forties and Fifties when most young boys in the United States went by Glenn or Gary. White Americans seemed to have used the 'Derek' spelling more than Black Americans who preferred the'spelling Derrick. It's like when'the female name Dolores or Delores was popular in the Thirties, with the whIt's using the first spelling and the blacks using the'second.
Derek is my son's name. I only like It'spelled D E R E K. Any other way I do not think it is pronounced the'same way. He loves It'so that of course makes me happy. Not too popular but not unusual.
My name's Derek; It's derived from the Germanic name "Theodoric", which means "Ruler of the people"... 'nuff said. :)

While it is typically not pronounced or spelled wrong, if you are a person who does not like nicknames then you should disregard this name. There are very few people who will actually respect the name "Samantha" - within minutes of meeting most people the name will be chopped down to "Sam" and you will never get them to say "Samantha" again. Although it may be a popular name according to the'statistics I have very rarely ran into anyone else with the name.
