Kaya Isn't slang for weed in the rastafarI'movement, but rather It'stands for enlightenment. My daughter is named Kaya and yes I love the'song and always thought it was about weed.
I also LOVE this name. My first born girls name will be Kaya Robyn. :)
My son's called kaya (sounds like ki-ya) he's 8 and every1 spells it wrong ie kia
We are thinking of another pregnancy and are already pretty sure a boy will be Gage. Love it. Other'son is Wesley.
My name is Kyia (ki ya) and in Jamaican it means "Pot" as in marijuana.
My name is Kia, but It's pronounced with a long "i", like "k-eye-uh". My parents got it from the movie Willow, haha. Other than mispronunciation (mistaken for the car, obviously), I love my name.
My name is Kaya. I hated it growing up (I am 27) because people ALWAYS pronounce and spell it wrong. I was Kayla, Kay-a, Kyra, Kyla (where people get these extra letters....). Now I really like it. I don't have to worry about working somewhere or having five friends with the'same name - you just get used to correcting people and having them say, "oh, how pretty"
Im english, i have named my daughter Kaya, (prenounced Kay-a) She is now 7months old, and we dont know of anyone with this name. Everyone says its such a lovely name. It'sounds pretty. Im very pleased with my choice, but people do get it wrong, she gets called Kayla, or they prenounce it Ki-ya.
HI'my name is Khaya and I'm 29 yrs. old. I pronounce my name as Ki-ya. My grandmother wanted to give me this name(without knowing any meaning to the name), and my mom loved it! Growing up, I didn't like my name because it was different, but as I got older, I loved it! I think only 2 people ever looked at my name and pronounced it correctly(lol). i've been called everything from Kia to Kayla, and there's no "l" in my name. Every1 who never heard of "kaya" says its a pretty name.
my name is kaya and i am 13. i sometimes get annoyed when people call me "ki-ah" when my name is kay-a. i think it is a lovley name that has many meanings... aka... pure, tough, flower, rejoicing, stay and don't go back, beautiful and little but wise. also if people say about it being the'slang name for weed then'thats okay because weed is a drug that makes you high so us kaya's are happy
my daughter is 12 years old and is called kaya but we spell it kiah. didn't know it was slang for weed or that it was a bob marley song.even'though my dad is a big bob marley fan.
I'm going on my 33rd week of pregnancy and for a girl we have the name "Kaya Sky" picked out :) I'm not finding out the'sex until birth but in a way I hope it is because I love the name'so much.
i have a four month old girl we named kaya we pronounce (Kay-Ah
My daughter born in 2013 was named Kaya, after the Bob Marley song. Looks like I'm not the only one who liked it for a name! She gets called Kay-Aaa all the time, but I am always pleased when someone knows how to pronounce it off the bat! I figure its better to have to let people know how to say your name, then having a boring name like everyone else....being a Jennifer, I can say that with confidencs
My son is named Khaya (rhymes with Hi-ya). Though I know that name is popular as a girl's name in the U.S., we chose it to reflect his Xhosa South African heritage. Khaya means "home" in Xhosa and is a popular name with many variations for both genders (Mikhaya, Likhaya, Nomakhaya, and Khayaletu are some). I have also met a few female Kaya's who claim it as a Hopi girl name that means "wise".
Well - my Eden was also born on Feb 26 and then I see another Feb 19 Eden. I think it is the ultimate Pisces name for a true Eden. I don't want the name to get to popular - my son is Archer and that doesn't look like it is on the rise too much. Perfect names that'suit them. Now got to find the right "r" name for a friend.
My daughter's name is spelled Khaya. We added the "h" because my older'son's name is Khayri. If he were a girl, I'm sure his named would've been Kaya. Their dad insisted that we spell it as the Bob Marley song (which I had never heard at the time), but I thought it was silly not to uniformly spell their names. Adding the 'h' sort of changes the meaning to "African Mahoghany Tree"...trees, enlightenment...hmmm
My daughter's name is KayaMarie (one word). Kaya means "capable" or "able" in tagalog, my native language (Philippines). I love that my daughter's name is so meaningful and beautiful, like her.
my name is kaya i am 13 my dad named me kaya because of the meaning. he first chosse kaya pronounced "Kiyah" but then decided on kaya pronounced as "K-A-Y-A" i am half indian and my dad is indian apparently out there one meaning is dawn and another'shade...

People often mispronunce and mispell it and people often forget it quickly aswell because It's so unusual. I used to not like my name but now I love it! However it means weed in jamacian so I'll have I hard time if I ever go there!
my dog's name is kaya. i wanted to name her maryjane greens but my friends said that was too long so they suggested kaya (after the bob marley song) and It'sounded cool. only problem...i have a sister named kayla....it can get confusing!

My daughters name is Kaya Paige (ki-ya). She was born in 2015. We love her name. And yes everyone says it wrong, it usually takes a long time before people get it right that are around a lot (like her grandma). She is definalty a kind soul.
My daughter's name is Kaya. Kaya Isn't actually slang for "weed." It means "enlightenment" in Rastafarian, hence the'song.
hI'my name is kaya i dint really meat people with the name but i guess its exciting to know that other people share my name if you look up kaya under the japanies dictionary it means buetiful
hI'my daughter is kaya jade prounounced kai ya , its not actually slang for weed but is actually the name of a type of weed plant (they all have different names eg white widow , shakira , ak47 , purple haze , white rhino , che'se ,
This is my daughters name. I named her that for lots of reasons, Her fathe's name'starts with an "A" so he was excited, she was born in October, but most of all it is different and i Love it! And Jun 24 2017 (Fist comment) I have the'same problem I HATE when some spells it "Autum" also! :-D
this is my second name and I love it. some people call me gabi, but wut I dont like is that'some people can't pronounce It'sometimes they call me grabiela or graciela and that make me feel bad because thats not my name, but anyways I still love my name.
My name is Kaya. It is supposed to be pronounced as it is in the'song by Bob Marley. i've always preferred kai-ah, so It's only my family who say kiy-uh. I'm endlessly being called kay-ah and kayla. i've met a Kiah and a Kaiya before, but never another Kaya.
im a proud father of a gorgeous little girl who is only 4days old!!!she is the most amazing thing ever...I was named after Haile Selassie so I have rastafarian roots and Kaya means enlightenment(link to the gods)so from the moment my partner was present that came and It'stuck,it just ticks all d boxes n i was also carrying on tradition.her'second name is Chiedza(which means star in Shona-the language from Zimbabwe.
I am 29 years old and for as long as I can remember nobody else I knew had this name. Now It's becoming more popular. I love my name. It's unique and beautiful. Your daughter will love it!
MY DAUGHTER IS CALLED KAYA MY FAMILY AND MYSELF THINK IT IS BEAUTIFUL,JUST LIKE HER. DAVID
I have a sister named Claudia and growing up we called her Kaya for short. It has stuck with her'since then. I think it would have been spelled Caya but better pronounced if spelled Kaya and she likes the difference that it is spelled with the K. I heard the Bob Marley song and had to show it to her.
my mate debs daughter is called kiya , people spell it wrong all the time they spell it kia,kya or even kyia ❤️❤️ she is ace any way and she'sings the'song kaya her name is pronounced the'same as the'song
I have loved the album kaya since high school. We swiped it from my friends dads (major hippy) record collection on 4-20 when i was 16. It was my intro to bob. Now i have a dog named kaya. A blue pit I adopted. Her name was chloe (4 months old) that was too preppy and just would not do. Plus i love my mary jane.
My name is Kayah (ki-ya) I swear every time I get a new teacher they find a way to say it wrong.Usually people say kay-ah which is understandable but Kayla, kierra,Kia❤️! My parents named me after a dwarf in the movie "Willow." Lets just say she's not the prettiest and my brothe's always seem to bring it up.I lovey name and all but I want to get it re-spelled kaya.
mine is the exact same from the one below but i spell it Kiah. and im 14
ive just had a baby girl named kaya jai (pronounced kiya) me and my mum argued over the'spelling. she'said everyones gonna say kay-a..which they do but i got it from the bob marley album. i know how much shes gonna love her name whe's shes older coz its beautiful, originsl and slang 4 weed lol :)big up all the kayas out there!! xxxxx
People sometimes pronounce my name Kia (like the car) or KAy-a, with a hard "a". For some reason lots of people read it and say Kayla too haha. The easiest way i've found is to say that It'sounds like Maya. That'seems to help. I really like my name because its not that common and because it has many meanings in different cultures
I absolutly LOVE the name Kaya! But reading these comments, I think i've been pronouncing it incorrectly. I pronounce it Kay-ah. And many people seem to be using it as Ki-ah. I personally prefer the way I spell it and shall hopefully be calling my first daughter Kaya Louise (After my sister Ellie Louise) Or Kaya Marie simply because I like the name!!! My second daughter (I hope to have at least 2 girls!) Shall hopefully be called Mia. Mia Grace :D
kaya means rich in Indonesian so it is a nice name
I LOVE this name for a girl. My first born girl will be named Kaya Emillienne.
my name is kaya, its pronounced kiyuh.i love my name because its unique and special!!
I recently lost my 18 year old cat named Kaya. She was the'sweetest thing on Earth. Disabled from birth and big green eyes. Black hair. The biggest love bug.
Our beautiful baby girl is named kaya heidi (pronounced kiya), me & my partner thought of the name on seperate occassions without the other knowing so when she was born we knew it was the 1. Weve never heard anyone else with her name'so to know other people have such an amazing taste in an amazing name is great. I hope when she grows up shell love it just as much as we do. perfect & pretty name for such a perfect & pretty girl
I named by daughter Kaya Leigh in 2017, I didn't even know that it was a Marley song. I actually say the'spelling for it in a Rap video and I thought that it was unique. I had never heard of it before and like stated above, there are many different meanings in many different languages. Not many people who see the'spelling of her name pronouce it properly she usually gets "kayla" or "ka ya"
My daughter is three. We named her Kaya, and pronounce it Kie-ah. The influence of the Marley song and album played a factor, and I was aware of the colloquial usage as meaning good sensimilla cannabis, though that had nothing to do with the choice. It is a beautiful name for a beautiful little girl who shines brightly each and every day. The multiple meanings, and multiple cultural influences in aggregate, along with the limited popularity worldwide, provide for a very remarkable name that allows for an individual sense of identity while it fosters a potential for cultural exploration and i'vestigation in reconciling those aspects. An aside, to the cannabis issue, the word Kaya was used with limited acclaim as a reference to strong and seedless cannabis, also referred to as sensimilla. It appears that at least one specific gen'tic strain has taken'that name in apparent reference to this situation. It is my understanding that many of the names assigned to specific cannabis strains often reference such cultural inferences. Given'the life and works of Mr. Nesta Robert Marley, anyone referencing the late artist probably does not remain neutral on the cannabis issue on the whole. A further aside, Kaya is also a word used to describe forested sacred religious sIt's in the Nation of Kenya. And though I can't currently find reference to it, my recollection seems to be that there is also another plant that predates the cannabis usage by quite some time, and informally and commonly is referred to as Kaya.
My names Kiaya. Spelt differently to how it is in the bob marley song but is pronounced the'same. I'm grade 12 now and have grown to love it. Its weird knowing that other people have my name though!
My love and I decided oficially tonight we will be naming our baby girl Kaya. My heart jumped when i thought of it because I finally got the feeling of "thats it!" There are several meanings, and this is the one we have named her after. " ""Kaya" means enlightenment in the Rastafari dialect. Which is what Bob Marley spoke "
My daughters name. It is mispronounced constantly! Rhymes with Maya or Maia. (not Kay) Met one other person named Kaiya. Wanted her to have a name that a million other people didn't have.
My daughter is 8months & she is called Kaya Heidi ( pronounced Ki-ya). My partner and I chose the name but on seperate occassions, i admit I'mispronounced the name 'Kia'& my partner chose it through the Bob Marley song, so as we both came up with it there was no hesitation when she was born & the midwife asked her name. Memebers of our family still say it wrong i dont know whether they'll ever get it right but i dont care either, its a perfect & beautiful name for a perfect & beautiful little lady, i just hope she grows to love it as much as we do :)
My name is Kaya and I'm 14 years old. I live in Europe and in my country, this name is pretty popular. i've been'talking to a lot of people from U.S. and even'though some of them never really heard of the name, they didn't ask about it much. My name there is unique and I guess that's what even atracts other people. I used to hate my name, that my brother chose it for me, because else my mother would name me something like Gloria. But now, I actually love my name, 'cause it makes me quite unique.
This is my daughter's name too. We got a lot of compliments for it. The only problem we have now is finding another one just as nice and unusual for our second daughter.
hi i am 17 yrs old living in st Vincent and the Grenadines my name is kaya and people call me ki-ya wrong but i dont mind i love my name and wat it means to i got it from and indian girl in a movie

My daughters name is Shanikaya. We call her Kaya= wealthy (Malay), jam (SEAsian), flower (India) xox
I am 25 wks pregnant with my 2nd child (first baby girl though!) and we are naming her'shakaya Destiny... but we already call her "Kaya" for short, and that will probably be what she goes by... :D Yes, got it from Bob Marley too (kaya) but added the'sha at the beginning was my own unique thought... wanted to have a name no one else had!!! ;) you all have wonderful taste!! ;) <3 Kaya's Mommy
My name is Kaya. It's pronounced "Kay-yah" or "Kay-uh." Everyone always tells me they love my name. I love my name too!
Kaya is a Jamaican word meaning ganja. It is mentioned in a Bob Marley song with the'same name "Kaya". Its a good name but just know what it means before you use it.
I wish I was named Kaya. It is so beautiful. I actually first heard it on actress Kaya Scodelario, and have loved It'since then. Although I like my name, Cara, I would prefer Kaya.
my name is kaya, im 20 and have yet to meet anyone older than me, would be inter'sting! it is pronounced like kayak without the k on the end. my parents got the name from bob marleys album!
We're naming our first born son Tait. It will be his middle name and his first name comes from his grandfather, but we will call him Tait. I like the name because it has a solid history with the famous Canadian Tait McKenzie. Both my husband and I like history, so It'seemed a good fit. It's not trendy, so in five years when he goes to school, there won't be a bunch of kids with the'same name.
I didn't even know anyone had this name until this MTV show. I'made it up as a kid because I couldn't pronounce my name. Everyone in my family and my childhood calls me Kaya. It's also pronounced as Maya.
Kaya (ki-yah) is such a beautiful name. My name is Sarah, very traditional. But I adore this name because of the connotations and sound of it, and hope to name my daughter Kaya some day :)
My daughter's name is Kaya, she is 12 years old. It means lots of things in lots of languages, not just Jamaican slang! For example, in Turkish it means rock, in South African it means home, in Indonesian it means becoming, it is also an American Indian name, a shortened derivative of Kaya'aton'my, which means one who arranges rocks in Nez Perce. It is also the name of an ancient Korean tribal league. So it means an awful lot more than weed....
hI'my name is kaya im 20 years old hahahahhahahaha
I like the name Kaya... It's really common in my country though.
MY HUSBAND AND I LOVED THE NAME "KAYA" WHEN WE FIRST HEARD AND SAW IT. OUR DAUGHTER IS NOW 5 YEARS OLD AND HER NAME IS "KAYA NICOLE" (KAYA PRONOUNCED "KI-YA"). WE NEVER REALLY KNEW WHAT HER NAME MEANT, UNTIL TONIGHT WHEN I LOOKED IT UP AND IT MEANT "WISE ONE"...SHE LOVES HER NAME BECAUSE She'sAYS THAT SHE IS THE ONLY ONE IN HER CLASS WHO'S name'sTARTS WITH A "K".
My daughters name is Kaya Noelle, I also got it from Bob Marley!
We are expecting our first in july and as we know so far it is a boy and we are naming him Easton Montgomery!
My name is Kaya, im 16 and i love my name. I have met one other person in my life with the'same name, and i know of the actress Kaya Scodelario. My mother got the name from the Bob Marely alubm & song. She wasnt 100% sure it was slang for weed, she liked to think of the meaning more as 'a good feeling'. Not too long ago she met someone who told her it was infact slang for weed, but she didnt name me for that intention. It does often get mispronounced or misspelt but it doesnt bother me. Its diverse, i like all the different meanings and i when i found out that it was slang for weed, i found it hilarious lol.
Kaya is my daughter's name. It's her complete name with no middle or last name. She thought it was weird at first but now likes it. Yes...I was influenced by Bob Marley as well as the wealth of meaning of the name in so many languages. The name'suIt's her, she came out wise and strong.
"Kaya" means enlightenment in the Rastafari dialect. Which is what Bob Marley spoke.
my little sister is named Kiya, (we changed the'spelling from kaya) and we're native american descent, and the name kaya is a native name meaning 'wise child'.
My name is Kaya and I'm very proud to have this name, just for anyone wondering: In Japanese means resting place Turkish - rock/boulder Indonesian - rich Jamaican - WEED :) Hopi indian - elder'sister
Kaya means rock in Turkish. It is usually given for males.
I love this name! Im having my first child in January 09 and have been a Bob Marley fan since the moment I heard him for the first time, Kaya is the perfect name (if I have girl!) :) Its perfect because my parnter was named for an ACDC album so it runs in the family! I thought it was quite a unusual name, but I guess not :) Its still wonderful though.
My name is Kaya (Kay-a)with a silent "A" and I am 44 yrs old. Growing up I did get my name pronounced wrong all the time and that would make me so angry. People would put an "L" in my name oh just pisses me off to this day when some pronounces my name wrong. Kaya is a beautiful name within itself and the person that bears that name is just as beautiful. Nice to have met all you beautiful Kayas in the world.
I love this name!!! Its so unusual and pretty!!! I wish it was my name!
I want to name my daughter Kaya. I am Indian and in Sanskrit Kaya (pronounced Kaa-Yaa like Hi-ya) means phisical form or body. It also means Nature (or the physical world) as opposed to Maya (which in sanskrit means illusion). love the name because it is sooo ancient a word but sounds so modern.
I wanted to name our 2nd daughter Kaya. My brother in law didn't like it because of some character in the movie "Willow." And the grandparents were all about the'stodgy names. Anyway, my wife wanted Lorelei and a few coincidences led to her winning that argument. Our 3-month-old girl is named Lorelei Kaya. I was aware of the many meanings, and I am a fan of Bob Marley, but I'd never name a kid just after a song/album. I just think It's a beautiful sounding name. You guys are a bunch of weird metaphysical hippies for the most part.
My name is Kaya; I'm in grade ten. It was spelled Kaja when I was born, but my mom changed It'so I wouldn't have to deal with everyone pronouncing the 'j' the way It's pronounced in English. People who see it in print tend to assume a letter is missing and call me Kayla, or they mispronounce it as kay-ah. Kya is the most common misspelling I get, or Kia. My mom got in from the'song Kaya by Bob Marley. My name is supposed to be pronounced as it is in the'song, but I prefer kai-ah; It's not quite as harsh-sounded. And no, I was not named FOR the'song, thank you very much. My parents just liked the'sound of the name. I like my name, although I wish that it had been spelled Kaia. I just wish my friends hadn't figured out that "zomg ur name means weed! lolz were ur parents stonerz❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️//" ("Yes, I know what it means, and no, they weren't and aren't, thanks.") Inter'sting fact I found out by reading the label on a can of coconut milk a few month ago: kaya is coconut jam. Go figure.
My oldest is named Kaya... she is now 10. We always says it rhymes with "Hi ya" ;) We had stumbled on the name as a Hopi name meaning Elder'sister. And It'seemed really right. Now I have two children and she is the best big sister I could have asked for (my youngest has special needs and Kaya goes above and beyond for her'sis) Very often people will pronounce is Kay-ah. She just rolls her eyes and ignores them til they say it right...trying to break her of that. ;) Oddly when she was 4 years old American Girl introduced a Kaya doll also Native American but Nez Perce. Kind of cool.
hi there. I'm kaya. i was born before 2000 and i like the Hopi indian meaning of this name because i am an elder'sister. 8)
My sisters name is Kaya, but I hope everyonen knows it is slang for weed
my name is kaiya, pronounced the'same way as kaya. i correct people all the time! and people are always telling me that its really unique and really pretty. Im seventeen and i have only met one person with the'same name. kaiya is japaneese and means forgiveness,it also means life and living in english
im 20 yrs old and im from england and my name is kaya, people are always pronoucing it as ka-ya but you say it as kiya It's so anoying and i thought i was the only kaya but i no a few people called kaya but spelt differently.
My oldest daughter's name is Kaya Marie. We pronounce it Kay - ah. We love it!
My daughter is 7 and we prounounce her name kay-a, I love it cos It's different and so girlie. When we were in Bali the Balinese people adored her and saw her as a gd luck charm because they worship a kaya the good witch.
My name is Kaya and lam 27 years old..Its funny how l used to hate my name growing up because in my country it means "l don't know" and people will always make fun of it and in Zimbabwe where my father is originally from people used to spell it as "Khaya" and l didn't like it because just adding the "h" in it gave it a whole different meaning altogether i.e "home" in Ndebele a Zimbabwean language. But when l moved to the USA l got all sorts of pronounciations and spellings of my name and l still up to this day have to correct people.l then looked up the meanings of Kaya and that made me love my beautiful unique name and everywhere l go now and tell people my name they love it and l love it...
My wife and I are naming our daughter due Sept. 6th Marley Kaya. Who is this Bob Marley guy ❤️❤️❤️ LOL. We love it.
My daughter's name is kaya (pronounced ki-ya). She is ten yrs. Old. I started hearing the name more often when she was about 2. It is a beautiful name and i am learning new meanings for it everyday.
I'm having a baby girl, due 1-8-10 and I'm naming her Nikaya Irie. My boyfriend liked the name kaya (hes a huge bob marley fan) and i also thought it was a cute girls name. But we wanted something different than just Kaya, so I added the 'Ni' to the beginning. She'll go by Nikaya, Kaya, or Nikki. all depending on what people can remember haha! and yes, i know its a slang for weed. but really, what isnt a slang for weed❤️ haha
We are expecting our first child next year. I really like the name Hank but my Fiancee is not so sure. I Still have time to show her how cool the name would be here in the Uk. We don't no what we are having but if its a boy i pick hank.
Kaya is the name of my dog. She is an American Staffordshire Pit Bull. She is so loving and gentle and has been a wonderful pet. She loves when I play the Bob Marley song Kaya and dances very happily when I sing it. She is also well liked "in her neighborhood" and receives gifts at Christmas time from our neighbors. Kaya is a great name. For a woman, young girl, or dog. By the way I bought her from a man named Kiah ironically.
my name is Kaya. It's supposed to be pronounces 'kah-ya' or like it is in the'song by Bob Marley, but I always introduce myself as 'kai-ah'. i prefer it because it doens't sound nearly as harsh. people never pronounce my name how It'should be - they usually say 'kai ah' (in which case i tellt hem they're right), 'kay-ah' (which i hate), or mistake it with the name Kayla, which generally makes my respect for them drop a couple levels, unless they honestly thought it was a typo (but most end up peering at the'sheet and going, "You're right!" after I inform then'that there's no L).
I am named Kaya and I am 36. I am glad my parents were ahead of the curve. Nothing to do with Bob Marley...
We named our daughter Kayden born August, 2017. A lot of people think it is just a boys name, I don't think it is a mascule name. My Kayden looks and acts like a princess and I think her name fits.
My first daughter is named Kaya. We pronounce it like "Maya". I love it, It'suits her and she gets positive reactions to it. People tend to want to pronounce it "Kae-uh" like the name Kayla. We have met a few Kayas in the'six years since ours was born.
My daughter's name is Kiyah Grace .....it too gets pronounced wrong...usually Kia (Key-ah') but I love the name'so much
My name is Rukayyah but people call me Kaya, so I started to wonder what it means....now that I have found out that it means ganja, maybe i ll use it as my name more often!!!
