I'm 30, and have only really liked my name for the past 5 or so years. When I was in elementary school everyone was a Sarah, Jessica, Melissa, or Lindsay. Now I enjoy that It's a little different. Of course I would get mocked with the name "oral laurel" but I would turn it around and say It's Moral Laurel. I also get called laura, lauren, and laurie, since the name Laurel seems to be too complicated for some dimwits to remember. I'm a Navy wife and have been living in Japan for a year now. Most Japanese can't say my name'so It's more like Ro-Ro, so I just have them call me Lo.
laurel is a classic name and my mother moves it im not a fan just yet. im still a teen so maybe in the future i will have a chance to have it grow on me, but for now i just have a lot of nick names. what makes it worse is that my last name is terrible to pronounce as well. im always having to correct people because i cant bear the though of people knowing me as a lauren or a laurie. one thing about laurel that i have found though it that it is very rare. the two that i have met were 50 and 62 and that was about ten years ago. its just not a very current name. it brings to mind greek statues or old women playing bingo. i guess thats okay, maybe its just not my time yet, maybe ill fit in real well when im 80 and playing bingo. i would not advise this for your child. try walking around all day with a name that no one knows how to pronounce and a good chunk of europe cant pronounce.
my name is Laurel only two people have pronounced my name correctly the first time i pronounce it loor-elle i have only met one other person named Laurel most people just think my name is Lauren
I like the name Laurel, but for a girl, not a boy.
Having the name Laurel I get two reactions: "thats weird, can I call you Laura or Lauren"(to which my response is not if you want me to respond) or "thats pretty." I like having an uncommon name, however kids can be mean, coming up with such clever nicknames as "oral Laurel" or "whorel"
I am a 36 year old female and I love my name. Yes, It's different, and growing up I didn't always love it. Often people called me Laura, Laurie, Lori, etc. What I like about it is that It's different without being too strange. I have been'told many times It's a beautiful name!
I am 56, a femele, and I have always loved my name. Yes you get alot of mispronounciations. I just say, "like Laurel,MS or Laurel and Hardy." I pronounce it the'same way. One friend had a particularly hard time and I told her to say it like Quarrel with an L. I have been called WO WO many times by Asians, It's a very hard name for them, but I guess WoWa would be too!
my name is laurel and i have come to like it but i wold not name a boy that for a girl i think its beautiful
The man I care about a lot is named Vaughn. He is very kind, caring and selfless.
