Marley is a relatively new coinage in the U.S. It first appeared as a female name in 1994 and started a great move upward. In 2008 it jumped 250 positions and reached the 143rd position. This is the year in which the movie adaptation of Marley & Me was released. In that year, Marley made its debut in the list of the most popular names for boys as well. This is what makes it a unisex name. However, the frequency among girls is so much higher than among boys that we expect this name to become a completely female name. In recent years Marley has experienced a decrease in its popularity. Something that you need to remember when it comes to this name is that this is a very common name for dogs.

I think Marley should only be a girl's name. It just looks suitable for a girl and not for a boy! Another way of spelling it is Marlee.
Ok, first of all, I think that for boys it should just be Marley with a a Y. And girls should be Marlee, Marlie, Marli. My name is Marlee and I want it to be spelled Marli!!! It way cooler than Marlee.
Anyone ever thought of spelling it Marleigh❤️ I think that spelling is cute, but I also like all of the other spellings, Marley, Marly, Marli, Marlie, Marlee, etc. It's a great name for a baby girl. I love the name Marlee Jean.☺ -Izzy
I am a man and my name is Marley IT IS A BOYS NAME! And I am quite fond of it staying a boys name. if you are going to name a girl Marley please at least spell it differently. Thanks :>)
i am naming my daughter Marlee Jean. I love this name for a little girl. My b/f is a bit of a hippy and he too loves bob marley but it is not the reason behind the name. none of my kids have common names. my boys are Logan and Asher so i wanted something original to her.
i wouldn't mind naming my son or daughter Marley. i absolutely love this name and would plan on naming my child that. though i love how you can play around with the spelling, like: Marlee, Marli, or Marly but i prefer Marley the most after the late Bob Marley. I've always been a big fan of Bob Marley!
We are having our daughter Marley next month and her middle name is taken from my grandmother, which is Euhlalea. Or Yule-a-lee, if you have trouble reading that. We thought it was different and unique and wanted to stick to traditions of naming our kids via the grandparents and musicians. Our son is Jackson Vladimir. Choosing names is a tough task anyway you look at it. To the father to be... I was a fan of Marcus Marley for my son. I think it has a nice feel to it and even though Marley is not the first name, when its used as a middle, it seems to work.
My 13 month old son is named Marley. My husband and I just loved the name. In the baby book we used it means 'boy of the woods' which I just loved. Also love Bob as well!!. I do think it is more suited to a boy but spelt differently I could see it suiting little girls aswell.
My daughter is named Marley. I love it..sorry to all you guys that think it's a boys name or girls should spell it different! I never knew it was a boys name or that it even could be a boys name! I had only heard it a few times and only with girls! and a last name for Bob! :) So whether your a boy, girl, man or woman..if your named 'Marley' you have an awesome name! Be proud! If you spell it differently ..you still rock!
I want to name my baby if it's a girl "Marlee" after my mom "Marsha Lee" :) Perfect combo and sweet name!
The first week I knew i was pregnant i had picked my babys name. I think marley is an amazing name for a boy or a girl. I didnt know the meaning until after my son was born. I am just a big fan of bob marley. The quote "light up the dark" made me want to name my baby after him. After I had my son i looked more in depth to it, and the name meaning pleasent meadow is perfect for my son. Hes very calm and collected, and i can count on one hand the number of time hes has cried (he is now 5 1/2 months). I found that in the states it is more commonly used for a girls name however in Australia it is used exclusively as a boys name.
I think Marley is a beautiful name and one I would consider calling my baby boy.
