Milo Name Meaning

Milo is a masculine name. It is the root of names such as of Miles. The Norman French and English got Miles from its old Germanic form which was Milo. Milo itself was the Latinized form of Miles which was used in medieval papers. The name is mostly connected to the Latin word “miles” which means "soldier". However, some other etymologists argue that it comes from the Slavic root “mil”, which means "gracious".

The most famous bearer of this name was Milo of Croton. He was a Roman wrestler who lived in the south of Italy and had an unprecedented career as a warrior. There was an ancient sporting festival in ancient Greece which was similar to our Olympic; Milo won almost every major athletic contest of his time (6th century BC).
