The name Tiago means "God will reward us" because its origin is biblical, although there are also theories that support that its meaning is that of "prize of God". In both cases, the name is related to the offering, the gift that God offers his disciples and followers.
As we said in the previous section, the origin of the name Tiago is biblical. Tiago is a variant of Santiago and, in turn, the Portuguese translation of Diego. Likewise, both Santiago and Diego are variants of the name of Hebrew origin Ya'kov (Jacobo). James was the name used to designate two of the apostles of Jesus Christ, known to us as James the Less and James the Greater. For all these reasons, the origin and meaning of all these names are so closely related and are widely used in the Bible.

Why someone would translate a name is beyond my imagination but I have to disagree with Santiago above since "Santiago" is a junction of San Tiago wich implies that "Tiago" came first. Now I would like to know: In the Portuguese Bible there's a book caled Tiago. What's the original name of the book❤️ I don't think it's James, since in Hebrew it's Jacob.
The book (San)Tiago in the Portuguese bible is the same as the book James in the English bible (and the book Jacobus in the Dutch bible). The original of course was in Greek, and I have no idea which of the Greek translations online would show the original - there seem to be a whole bunch of different Greek translations. The Hebrew version of the name (written in English as close as possible to the Hebrew word) is Ya'akov.
Yes, Tiago is the translation of James in English, but it comes from the Spanish name of Santiago which is the same of James. Spanish and Portugues are sister tounges from Latin and English is not even thou it has thousands of words from latin.
