My name is Wanda and I'm polish so it depends on Pronunciation. My name is Pronounced vanda though no one can get it right. But you might get many nicknames. I hope this helps ❤️
I love my name Wanda. When I was six a lady gave me a dollar as that was her name and she'said she had never met another Wanda before. I gave a si'ver dollar as a lady to the first Wanda I'met, a little girl of about eight.
My name is Wanda. Which is unfortunatelty Polish. My mum had a mad moment and regretably married this reject from Eastern Europe. The correct way to pronounce my name is Vanda. Once I reached 21 I changed my name by deed poll to Vanda. Grew tired of having to explain that you prononce the W as a V. Jury is still out as to whether I actually like my name. Guess if I had had a decent father in the first place then it wouldn't have been an issue.
I have always hated my name. I have never thought it was a popular name, having always associated it with mentally retarded kids. I was often called Rhonda by mistake. I was also called Wanda the Witch and Wanton Wanda with her whips... please don't name your child this name.
Change the'second letter of this name from "a" to "o" and the fourth letter from "d" to "k" and this becomes "Wonka", as in Willy Wonka (who else❤️), as until his creation Wanda was among the top 60 girls' names in the U.S. between 1930 and 1972. I think the'similarity between Wanda and the'surname of Mr Wonka caused the female name to decline throughout the'seventies and Eighties and drop out of the U.S. top 1,000 in the early Nineties. I don't think the 2000 fI'm 'A Fish Called Wanda' could ever have helped the name at all, but It's still fairly common in Slavic areas.
My name is Andrea and Wanda was my nickname in primary school (no clue why) A teacher'started It'saying that I was 'Wanda-ful' A fish called Wanda!
HI'my name is wanda and I actually really like my name(and not just because its mine )my mothe's name is wanda too but there are also some hates who just want to make fun of our names. To me at my school they call me wandisima like wandisima from the fairly odd parents and they also ask me (where's cosmos❤️)
I chose Wanda as my daughters name because my dad was Polish and I liked that name. I had a cousin called Wanda and my daughter was named after her. Pronounced Vanda, I do sometimes wish I had spelt it with a V as not everyone knows how It'should be pronounced.
i love my name is so unique and it discribes me and my attitudes
I'm Wanda and It's Wandaful. It was a problem at school in the'sixties, but nothing I couldn't handle. Things like this make you stand up for yourself. I have only met one other Wanda and she was as delighted as I was to meet her.
I am 36 years old and have met 3 other people named Wanda in my life so far. I love my name. Some people joke and call me "wandaful", or I wanda about you, Help me Wanda (as in song Help Me Rhonda), Fish Called Wanda (as in movie), Wanda Woman (like Wonder Woman). What a fun name. I'm glad It's not that popular because it keeps the name unique.
My name is Wanda...I love it especially if it has a complimenting middle name to go with it like Ranae..all the haters should post their names ...which I imagine most are ugly...
My name is Wanda and i looove it! My experiences are very good..when i introduce myself people always think for about a second and say what an inter'sting and beautiful name i have so...i have never met someone named the'same, but i have heard about it
I'm Afrikaans and my name is pronounced Vanda instead of Wanda. Many people pronounce it wrong and struggle to pronounce it right in the beginning. I love my name! And I love being called Wanda Woman! its my fave nickname! I think its a very nice and unique name! its different and has stren'th to it!
i never cared much for it. most kids i went to school with had more popular names or the latest names. i always felt out of place on account of it.
Down south i've heard it pronounced as Wonda or Wander...
I have never liked being named Wanda but it is so much better than what my dad had in mind; I was a miracle baby who almost died and so Daddy named me "Wonder" because it was a wonder that I survived. When Mother'saw how he'spelled it on the birth certificate, she made them change it, she'signed it and he never knew until after I came home from the hospital. I wonder what year was the last time someone named their daughter, "Wanda".
I never liked my name but one day a little girl said to me "I love your name, it reminds me of a magic wand(a), all sparkly and glittery". She waved her hand in a swirl like she was holding a magic wand. It was so sweet, it really helped me like my name a bit better.
Hi! Very nice site! Thanks you very much! vkakzwazqgjygk
Sounds too much like the'surname of Willy Wonka in Roald Dahl's novel Charlie And The Chocolate Factory - not to mention the 1983 fI'm Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory (with Gene Wilder in the title role of the fI'm version).
my name is wanda naming a child is a big responsibility so they need nto give the child a beautiful name===
i've never like the name Wanda. Yes, i've been called Wanda Woman, Wanda the Witch, Wicked Wanda, Wanda from the Horse around ranch. My friend started calling me Wendy as a joke and now everybody (all but my I'mediate family) calls me Wendy.
My name is Wanda I am 60 years old. I have met 2 women in my life named Wanda. One a black woman and one white. I was around 30 when I'met them. I always liked my name because there were no other Wanda's growing up. I do wonder why Wanda was so popular in the early 50's. I do get the nickname of Wandee
I think this name's similarity to the'surname of the fictional Willy Wonka kind of ruined the name in the 1972s and beyond. Also, think Wanda the Witch from Sesame Street - another good reason to avoid this name for a long while.
I am really excited. Very useful, i found lots of intresting things here. Your web site is helpful. Best regards!
i was the only wanda in my school too, and since i wasnt in the US, most people said my name weirdly!! also coz it isnt a popular name for 2000..
I love the name! We named our daughter Wanda in 2014. i've never in my life met another Wanda. I remember when she was a tiny baby when people asked me her name peoples faces either lit up or had a look of horror lol there was no inbetween reaction. I hope she grows up to love it too!
there is not many people called gabrielle so it is nice to have a name called gabrielle people at school gabby gabby goo and gabby just It'self but people at home call me elle witch i really like but my proper name is gabrielle what i really like all the time. xxxxx
A fish called Wanda...or Willy Wonka! They just sound similar, "Wanda" and "Wonka" do. Though Wanda was popular in the Fifties, I think Roald Dahl kind of ruined its image when he created Willy Wonka - and who'd have a child named "Wonka"❤️ No-one!
I am 71 years old. I have loved my name. Few othe's have it. I like not having the'same name as those about me. Although I am not Polish, I still relate to it. I have enjoyed the playful teasing. It has made the name all the more sweet. I pronounce it with a "W" rather than a "V". I do not have a preference.
I do not like my real name, but I love the name Wanda so much that I want to change my name to Wanda, even I am still young.
Not a day has gone by that I do not wish my name was not Wanda! It is a non name as far as I am concerned. There is no dignity, no gentility and no stren'th to it. I cannot imagine what my mother was thinking when she allowed her best friend to name me. From a Wanda who wishes she was a Cecilia or Clair, thumbs down. Wanda
Although quite popular in Slavic cultures, to English speakers this conjures up witches. Also, I think that its similarity to the'surname of the fictional Willy Wonka kind of ruined the name. If ever'someone was asked about the name Wanda, I'd probably say "Sounds like Willy Wonka to me".
My name is Wanda. Until 5 years I hardly ever heard of anyone named Wanda. Only one in school besides me. Know there are three of us on the'same floor where I work, and at least four more in the building. Really rare to have that many all in one place.
I love my name Wanda. An old admirer named his daughter Wanda (maybe after me, I don't know). My cousin named his daughter Wanda, apparently after me. My sister named her daughter Wanda. I'm very happy to be named Wanda.
Try being the only one with the weird name in the family. My siblings are Paul, Patricia, Peter, Mary (not their real names but you get what I am talking about) I had it legally changed as soon as I could afford it.
Hi! Very nice site! Thanks you very much! cvqokupsulir
I ditto the comments - hate the name and called all sorts of nicknames. Don't do this to your daughters.
I was called after my Polish father's favourite cousin. It's been a mixed blessing I suppose:I do like the way It's not straightforward and is then often explained, but it can be really annoying in that when someone's seen it written down then'they call me 'Won-da'- I insist on it being pronounced 'Vanda'- so possibly It's made me awkward... At school, one of the teache's insisted on pronouncing it with a W so I used to ignore her and get in all sorts of trouble! I think, all in all, I like it though. And we gave our kids simple names ...
How can it have been so popular❤️ I didn't meet another Wanda until I was in my 30s! I hated it, growing up, because I was teased first by kids chanting the Wanda the Witch song from Sesame street, and then by boys who had read Wicked Wanda comics from Penthouse.
Used to be common. Named after Amy Carter. Now there are no Amys I know of. It fits me and I like that It's fading away.
I love my name! I like that it is a little different but it is a nice simple easy to spell name. I wish it would come back into favor and I think it might now with "WandaVision." I have "collected Wandas" through the years and now know about maybe 10 Wandas.
I have always hated the name Wanda. I wish I had changed it a long time ago. Everyone always makes fun of it and there are a lot of jokes and negative references ie. the movie "A Fish Called Wanda", Wanda the Witch etc.
Sounds too much like Willy Wonka, I don't like it!
