Zeus, the king of the ancient gods (his name in greek is Dias) was called Xenios Dias who was protector of travelers as well. There have been several famous women with the name Polixeni. One was a muse. The other was the daughter of the King of Troy. She was famously in love with Achilles. It is not a very common name in greece but that's the interesting part. There is a hotel chain in Greece with the name Xenia as well. They put the emphasis on the i. But the emphasis is used on the e and the x in the beginning sounds like the x in exotic or expensive. XI'mara Alfaro, a soprano voice pop singer from Cuba was born in 1930. I'm not Cuban and It's possible that I was named after XI'mara Alfaro in the 1940s. In any case, the best explanation i've heard about the meaning of the name, is that there was a native tribe in Cuba named XI'mara. I know someone named Xena, definitely named after Xena the warrior princess. I find the name unique and striking, easy to remember. I love the name. But I'm from the Philippines and people often pronounce the name as "se-na". So if I'd name my child as such, I'd spell it as Zeena so people won't mispronounce. I just gave birth to beautiful baby girl and I named her Xena. And I did get it from the'show, "Xena the warrior princess" I don't know why people named Xena dont't like the association. If you watched the'show, you would be honored to be named after'such a character. My husband and I are both Martial Artist so having a baby warrior princess was very fitting!!!
