Calvin Name Meaning

Meaning of name Calvin:

Calvin is the transferred use of a French surname, given to Nonconformists in honor of the French theologian John Calvin (1509-1564). The name comes from the French “chauve” meaning 'bald' (Cauvin is a diminutive of the Norman “calve/chauve” meaning 'small bald head'). John Calvin (Anglicism) was an influential religious scholar who broke away from the Catholic Church during the Protestant Reformation and is best known for developing Calvinism (a doctrine defined by predestination and total depravity, emphasizing the absolute sovereignty of God).

Personality

The number seven personality is deeply mystical and highly in tune with your spirituality. They operate on a different wavelength than the average citizen. Spending time alone comes easily to Sevens, as it gives them time to contemplate philosophical, religious, and spiritual ideas to find the "real truth." Sevens are wise, but they often exude mystery as if they were tapped into something the rest of us don't understand. They love the outdoors and are fed by nature. Sevens are constantly trying to understand human nature, our place in the universe, and the mystery of life in general. This makes them very artistic and poetic, but they are also keen observers with high intellects - so they are equally scientifically minded.

Popularity

Given his religious importance among the Reformed Protestant churches, Calvin's name has been an old favorite with Americans. On the US charts since the government began tracking naming trends in 1880; Calvin has enjoyed consistent moderate-high usage. The height of the name's popularity came in the mid-1920s when, for a brief period, it was a Top 50 favorite among American parents. For the past 130 years, Calvin's name has averaged around the #150 position, although today it is no longer in the Top 200. Not only is Calvin's name influenced by the 16th-century theologian, but also the 30th President of the United States Calvin Coolidge, and archetypal American fashion designer Calvin Klein. But let's not forget Calvin from the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes, syndicated between 1985 and 1995 - the gorgeous, precocious, and imaginative little six-year-old, who along with his sardonic stuffed tiger Hobbes, is thrown into evil and chaos. A delightful character, we can easily see the attraction of this name (cartoonist Bill Watterson Calvin named John Calvin and Hobbes after Thomas Hobbes, a 17th-century political philosopher). Calvin is often shortened to the one-syllable form of the pet "Cal" (as in Cal Ripken, Jr.); That makes it a great choice for UC Berkeley graduates and "CAL" hobbyists alike. We also find it interesting that Calvin is associated with the number seven in numerology—the spiritual number, which makes it very appropriate for his original namesake, the religious theologian John Calvin.

i named my son Calvin in December because i personally know only one other Calvin. it means "Bald" and having bad family genes, i thought we would jinx him. what i also n'ticed during my pregnancy was a LOT of african-american people/characters with the name: Snoop Dogg, Lil Bow Wow's character in "Like Mike", the kid from "The PJ's", Vanessa's dad on "My Wife & Kids", a character in one of those stupid "epic/disaster" movies, and most recently in'the new "Valentine's Day". a very strange coincidence to see so many, just something i picked up on. the name is great, no matter who has it- it IS cool, i can call my baby Cal or Vinny, and he can grow with it.

My parents chose the name "Calvin" for me because they thought it was "unusual" at the time (this is New Zealand in'the late 1972s). They didn't have any knowledge of the name's historical and theological significance. As an adult I always have to reassure people that I do n't in any way come from a Calvinist background nor do I in any way adhere to Calvinist doctrine. Actually I really despise CalvinI'm, rejecting it categorically as a rigidly puritanical, misanthropic, racist and even fascist world view. Jean Calvin's legacy is, in my opinion, n't worth remembering.

Thinking that it would be great to name me something unique, my parents somehow settled on Ebenezer; a name that'somehow both sounds like something you'd see in a 17th century Iberian obituary, and a callback to 'A Christmas Carol'. Here's the thing, just because a name is not very common, doesn't mean It's a good idea to name your child. Find a nickname for Ebenezer; no really, what can you think of❤️ Neezy❤️ Eb❤️ How about Scrooge❤️ Because I have been called Scrooge more often'than my own, actual, 19th century name that'should have been left in the past, alongside names like Ezekiel, or Geoff. In summary, Ebenezer is the name you jokingly give a houseplant, let alone anything with enough brain cells to recognize you clearly don't love it.

There's a little bit of trouble with pronunciation since I live close to the Mexican border, but after'saying it a couple of times most spanish-spakers get it alright. ("KAHL-veen❤️ Oh, ok!")

We named our son Calvin in 2007 in honor of Calvin and Hobbes. We were going to name him Forrest but then Forest Gump came out. We have only encountered one other Calvin in his class. He is truly a Calvin and no other name would have done him right! Creative, funny, and the best 20 year old you'd want living at home (going to the JC then off to Berkeley or Santa Cruz UC.

He was named so because growing up I was a huge fan of the Baltimore Orioles and Cal Ripken Jr. wasmy favorite player. I am n't a comic book kind of guy, but I simply adore Calvin & Hobbes so this had an impact as well. We even bought a stuffed tiger for him (corny I know) which kind of looks like Hobbes in a way :)

I named my son Calvin after my grandfather. It is a traditional English name that has been passed down for generations (Robert Calvin). I think It's a beautiful, original, traditional but hip name ("Cal"). It'suits him, too. It's a cute name now, but It's also a name he can grow with. Some of the names today sound absurd when you think of a grown man walking around with it.
