people sometimes pronounce it carAmel...I am not a CANDY!!!
My name is Carmel and I was born in 1973. I was named after Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. My Mother'said that my name was Elizabeth for two days, until she decided to change it. I often pray to my Patron Saint in times of need. I used to hate my name, as well. I have grown to love It's meaning and importance. Cheers to all the Carmels out there!!!
My name is Carmel and i love my name as it is unique, and i know of only one other person with my name (but i was named after her). I pronounce it CAR-mel and I absolutely hate it people say car-MEL as it is entirely wrong.
I know two twins named Carmel and Woodrow and they both relate to wood. I wonder if this was a coincidence for their mother.
My name is Carmel and I absolutely despise the name. It's awful, and I have to spell out the name for people all the time. Contemplating to changing my name by deed poll to Carmen!!
People often pronounce it very wrong saying "caramel" or "carmol"
i've been called caramel, caramac, camel and even camel toe and when I was younger I wanted to change my name to something 'normal' like Rachel, Amy or Emma but I now love it. People always compliment me on my name and in fact people with more common names are usually jealous of how unusual mine is! i've never met any other people called Carmel but there's now a character on Hollyoaks (popular UK soap) so a lot more people recognise the name because of that. My mum is from the'south (of England) and pronounces it CARmel but I grew up in the north where people pronounce it carMEL. I don't tend to notice how people say it but I do prefer CARmel. or Carms or Carmie which are far nicer nicknames than camel toe!
My wife's name is Carmel, she loves the name and I love her!! We don't like it when people call her Car-Mel we correct the'she was named after Our Lady of Mt.Carmel we will be married 38 years on Oct.29th. Have a safe day
