I was blessed(or cursed) with the name Dagny way back in 1976. My mother's middle name is Dagny and I had a great Aunt name Dagny from Sweden. Since It's an old family name, my father was enamored with it. We pronounce it 'Dog-nee' and it has been a blessing and a curse! In school I was teased mercilessly with 'Dog-breath', or 'Dog-face' or even someone asked if I was 'Dog-meat' once! I can't say I love it, even now when people say how pretty and unusual it is. It has too much baggage attached to it honestly. I named my son Kenny. Why subject a child to more teasing than necessary❤️ I good normal name is all I wanted growing up! Sorry, other Dagnys! By the way my brother is named Badih, an Arabic name. Poor guy!

Please don't use this name...I want my daughter to be unique and special! We adore this name and it was one of the few we could agree on. To be honest, some people people (esp. older people) have a little trouble getting it initially. (But then again some people have trouble with everything.) We wanted a strong, spellable, pronouceable name with some history. I love the character Dagny in the Ayn Rand novel, although I have issues with some of Ayn Rand's poltics now. (They are making movie with Angelina Jolie as the main character'so you may want to see how THAT turns out before you commit to it.) People want to spell it "Dagney" so that may be the way to go that route to save a tiny bit of trouble but I like "Dagny" better. I have met one Dagny in town a couple years younger than my daughter (7) and it is becoming more and more prominent on the internet. My inlaws hated it until they were told by several friends that it was their grandmother's or aunt's name, so they were reli'ved to find out it was at least a "real" name. (They were voting for Emily.) I like the idea that my daughter is not typecast by preconceived notions about her name, and that when she's older, her name won't be the current equivalent of "Mildred" or "Phyllis", popluar names of old, which will be exactly what "Madison" and "Caitlin" are going to sound like to us in 50 years...the name of someone born at the turn of the century. Enjoy your baby!

My husband and I named our now 19 month old daughter this. (Born in 2017) we were not set on a name until after'she was born, but it was on our girl name'short list. Most of my family gave negative comments about it, reminding me of how I hated being made fun of in school and that kids would all call her gag-me. I told them I like my name now as an adult (It's Alika) and that we wanted something old, but unique and with a powerful meaning. Her name is Dagny Mae T.. and she is the essence of that name. She is a little engineer and she works at a problem for hours figuring it out. Yes we repeat it a lot for othe's when introducing her.

My husband and I both love the name Dagny, and we can't wait to have a baby girl so we can name her this. We both loved Atlas Shrugged, which is where I first heard the name. The character in that book was so strong and powerful, yet feminine. What a unique and beautiful name! I am so glad it is not popular. My own name is uncommon, and i've always loved that about it.

My daughter's name is Dagny. She was named after Dagny Taggart from Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged". Her father and I love the book and hope to raise our baby with the'same stren'th and morality as Rand's character.

I am in my 50's and just adopted a baby girl. I had read Atlas Shrugged as a young woman and always planned to name my first girl Dagny. I had no children of my own, so when'the opportunity to adopt came along, I thought about my earlier plan. Once I checked out the meaning of the name, I was hooked, since she is truly a "new day" for me.

Hello=) Actually there are more girls/woman than I thought, with this name and I know/or have heard about at least ten othe's! In my litlle hometown(I come from a small countryside town in Norway with only thousand inhabitants.) there are actually three of us. My grandmothe's name is Dagny, my name is Dagny Irene and a friends mother is also Dagny Irene. Dagny Irene means "a new day with peace". I love that combination, even'though It's a long doubble name, but it makes the "new day"-part more special with peace..

My name is Dagney and for as long as I can remember i've hated it and determined to never call my daughter it! i've contemplated buying jewellery with my name on it just to make it easier when I introduce myself. I'm so tired of telling the'story of the name to every new person I'meet. I do, however, enjoy watching someone else go through the pain of introducing me and having to repeat the name a hundred times over! In the end I just agree that my name is whatever D-word they manage to come up with. So my overall opinion of the name is not very high. I finally resorted to sticking a pretty piece of paper with my name clearly spelt on it in the back of my transparent phone cover. That works wonders meeting new people. And then I'masterfully change the'subject back to their name. So uniqueness is great and all but I think this name pushes it a bit. I have my days where I like but mostly It's an annoying struggle. Sorry for the negativity - It's worth being honest about though.

My grandmother was named Dagny and 18 years ago I named my daughter Dagny. She is the most beautiful and unique person I know and everyone thinks the name'suits her perfectly. The worst thing...everyone spells it wrong!

The commentor that'said the name means "servant"is wrong. The Arabic spelling is قديم and a better transliteration would be Qadim. The name means "ancient" or "old". For example, "Old Cairo" is in Arabic al-Qahira al-Qadima.

My name is Dagny and I hated it when I was younger because everyone was named things like Stephanie, Jessica, Emily. My name was so different and no one could ever get it right or spell it right and I got made fun of a lot. But as I got older, I came to love it. I have never met another person with the name Dagny and that intrigues me. I want to but I think it would be very odd. I am so happy that it is my name now. It has really become who I am. It has set me apart and given me a chance to be unique, strong and independent. I just wish people would spell it right! :D

My name is Dagny. when I was younger it was "inter'sting" the variations kids came up with, Dogny, you know kids, it wasn't because I was unpopular or anything just because it was a different name for them to hear. Now that I am older, almost everytime I tell my name to someone new I get compliments, like what a beautiful name, original name...etc. I love my name and would not have changed it for the world. I want to give my child a name of Norwegian origin such as this, as I know how original and fun it is to have a different name. I too was named after Dagny in Atlas Shrugged and my family is of Norwegian descent. It would be surreal to meet another Dagny, as I have never had the pleasure :-)

My best friend in grade school was named Dagny. She was one of the most beautiful and inter'sting people I ever knew. When I had a daughter, I named her Dagny and she is the most beautiful and inter'sting person I know. She has her own unique style and sense of self-confidence and her name really suits her. There is a sense of mystery about the name, and I'm not sure if the name makes you special, or your name becomes special because you are.

Dagny is my name, and boy is it mispronounced and mispelled often. On the other hand, many people remember It'since it is so unusual. It's Scandinavian for "New Day" or "Dawn". Overall, I reci've alot of positive feedback on my name, even if it takes the person a few tries to say it right. Its not a name for an ordinary person, she's gotta be unique.

Introductions had always been a problem for me as I will always need to repeat my name multiple times and even have to spell it out in order for some to get it. But I love my name for as soon as people do get it, they never forget. And the name does automatically set you apart, makes you unique. The company I work in has over 10,000 employees and I'm the only Dagny. I haven't met another in my entire life and everyone I know haven't either. Its nice to know that when'they here the name "Dagny", it could be no one else but me.

I am due to give birth to a baby girl in 5 days (give or take) and she is to be named Dagny. It was the name of a childhood friend, probably the best friend a girl could ever ask for! She was unique and strong and beautiful. She passed 4 years ago & to name my daughter after her feels natural and so right. I never considered another name & hope my daughter lives up to her namesake.

We named our 7 yr old Grace...Grace Olivia. 2 years later a friend asked if I'd mind if she used the name because she loved it, too. What a huge compliment! Our Grace is very true to her name. Not only is she graceful but very athletic and talented...Grace is amazing at everything she tries! We named her after a dear friend who passed away when I was pregnant(Viola Grace)so we had no idea how popular the name was but I always get a kick when we run into another Grace. We also call her Gracie, which suits her as well, but I find myself thinking of Princess Grace becuse our daughter is a very talented actress and a beauty queen! We love her and her name is part of who she is!

The only female Georges I'd come across are the tomboy in Enid Blyton's 'The Famous Five' and George Eliot, the 19th-century pseudonym of a 19th-century English authoress named Mary-Ann Evans. Not to mention the fact that in the early 1992s, when Culture Club first came on the'scene, quite a few people thought that Boy George was female (he's really a homosexual man with a girlish personality).

But as i've gotten older I like having a unique name, It's a great conversation starter as most people are inter'sted in where It's from. I am happy to know that there are other Dagnys in the U.S.A. I was born to parents who came to the United States in May and I was born in September. Upon entering kindergarten I realized I had a strange name. I also had foreign parents and had red hair. I wanted to be a Shirley or Judy. As I grew older (about 40) I loved my name because of its meaning (New day) red hair as othe's were dying their hair red and I became proud of my Swedish heritage. I'd love to talk to other Dagnys. I have met two Dagnys- one in Sweden and one here in Illinois
