I adore my name. My mother gave me the name Lakisha Renee and I am the whIt'st girl u may ever meet.blonde hair and green eyes. I'm not even a tan white girl.. Nope pasty haha.. Everyone spells it wrong, assumes that I'm African American, and some even refuse to call me by my name and give me nick names. Which I will not answer to. My name'suits me. unique,beautiful, and confusing lol. And over the years i've learned to find humor in the fact that'so many people make me pull out my I.D to proove that I am a white girl named Lakisha!

Hello all! My name is Lakeisha but I typically go by Keisha. I was born in the Bronx and it was pretty popular there, then I'moved to Baltimore as a teen and it was just as popular. I used to dislike my name because of other people's reaction to it. Growing up, when meeting a guy, his face would change like 'Ohhhhhh your name is Keisha❤️❤️❤️ I bet You're hood, or crazy or would beat a b*tch azz!. I'm like really❤️ You got all that from a name❤️ Then I realized that I wasnt going to allow someone else's perceptions about me determine whether or not I would be proud of my name. I'm not ashamed of my name and in fact, I loooooooove my name (but that took time, personal growth and maturity). At the end of the day, I am not ghetto (but dont try me) and I am not uneducated (I'm in graduate school for School Psychology). When I'meet people, they can plainly 'see' that I am black so why would I care if they know that I am black from my name when I'm sending out my resume❤️ If I am judged on that alone, then'that is not the company for me. I actually enjoy breaking the'stereotype and that's what I enjoy most about my name. Changing people's perceptions of Lakeisha to something more positive.

Yes, my name is Laureen. I was born in July 1970. My mother wanted to name me after my Aunt Laura - who was a Franciscian nun, but my Aunt Laura gave my mother a list of names similar to Laura - and my my mother picked Laureen. It was spent incorrectly on the birth certificate - Laurene. I literally had to go to court to get it changed to the correct spelling when I was 20. I was born/raised in PIt'sburgh - where everyone seemed to be able to prodounce it. We moved to Houston when I was 15 - and It's been a struggle for everyone to pronounce it in the'south - I get Lauren, Lorraine, Lorene, etc. Only about 50% time, if that does anyone pronounce my name correctly. Over the years I have come to ter's with my name. Since I was a girl I have known many forms of "Keisha". Where I grew up it was a very popular name and would hear it called everywhere I go. Eveyone spells it wrong even family members because of the various ways of spelling it. The only problem I have with it is like some of the othe's have said I feel "type cast" with this name. People think of a loud gehetto black girl. I even had an ocurrence where I left a message for a person sight unseen and when he called my office back he requested to speak with a black girl named Keisha. The funny part was I was not the only person named Keisha in the office at that time. But... I do know of a white girl when I was younger who was named Keisha so I know of at least one who is not black.(LOL)
