Our six month old baby is named Lowell after the Little Feat singer Lowell George. Here in the UK no one has ever heard the name before and it confuses a lot of people but I love that it is so unusual.

My fiance is named Lowell, and has trouble with folks not recognizing it. When he'spells it out for them, they sometimes mispronounce it with the'same vowel sound as "loud." He likes the name, though.

Avoid this name. It was my first name and I have hated It'since I was a toddler! Few people have ever heard of it, fewer yet know how to spell it, and only a handful know how to pronounce it. It's a difficult name for a child to say until they are six,so until then prepare for adults to think your kid is retarded because he cannot pronounce it properly, and expect other kids to pick on the poor boy because he has a name that is 'different'. If you insist on naming you kid Lowell, at least give him a decent and well-known middle name that he can switch to instead of Lowell. Parents, remember, It's your child's name, not yours. He has to live with it, not you.

I agree with the other negative comment, Lowell is my name and few people can pronounce it or spell it. Most have never heard it before. Name your kid John or Bill, not Lowell.
