(One of his great great grand daughters is named Madison, but I don't know if her parents are even aware of the family connection of the name.)

Wouldnt change it for the world!!You can make so many names out of it..Alli, Lexi Alexa Alex Lex .... but its true form Alexis is a strong sexy name. It was better when it was rarer, it might be becomming too popular these days. "Alexis" stands alone from the Ashleys, Amandas, Allisons, Alexandras, and Anna's of this world.
I named my son Madison in 2002. Then, it was a ver unusual name, that wasn't even listed in the girl's side of the baby books I read. The book said it meant 'son of a powerful soldier'. I thought, what a strong masculine name. Then everyone decided to name their girls Madison. Does anyone know other boys called Madison?
I named my daughter, only child and love of my life Madison Kiona. The first time I heard the name was from the movie Splash when I was a kid. I almost chose Shae for her middle but her dad finally picked Kiona from a list of Names I had made. I also thought Madison Mckenzie was pretty but I knew a set of twins with those first names. Also my great grandfather's name was James Madison Rennick so I guess you can call it a family name!
My niece who was born 3 months earlier than she was supposed to be, in the back of my mams' car on the A19 no less (UK)! Is a miracle, and the'sound of her name, Madison Rose Freeman, brings me nothing but complete joy and couldn't possibly be over used, in my opinion, she means everything to me.
I just want to say I used to get a ton of comments about my name. I was born in the 80's and not to many people had the name, now anywhere i go there is a madison, however i have never met one older then me. it used to be great, now it is so over used!

I named my daughter Madison Marie and her nickname is Maddie. I think it is the perfect name for her and it fits her well. She is 10 weeks old and she doesn't look like anything other than a Madison.
You name your children what you want to name them. What does it have anything to do with what society views as a gender'specific name? My daughters name is Quinn. And wow, if she has parents out there reflecting their ignorant views upon their children, we are really screwed as a society, and my child will suffer because of bully?s like yourself. Who cares??? You should be proud your child holds the name of a gender neutral, strong name. You people who have a problem who Quinn as a girls name are really petty and insecure. And you are projecting that upon your boys. So sad!
I named my daughter Madison Grace. She's now 5 months. Many people have commented on what a lovely name it is.
My name is Maddison and ı'm a girl, and I love my name for both girls and boys. the first time I'met a boy named madison i was excited!

My 20 year old daughter is Madison. We started off calling her Maddie but by 6-7 it faded away. Shortly after, my sister'started calling her Mads and It's stuck. We love it.
I LOVE the name Madison for a boy. I like names that can be both boys and girls names. I would name my son Madison, but when I tell people that they say he'll get teased. I think thats really stupid. Madison was originally a boys name, so boys shouldn't be teased for having it. It's the best name ever!!
It'sounds more of a last name than a first name like the actress Virginia Madison!
My name is madison and i think that name is awsome and popular becase my bff's name is madison too. :)
my name is madison and I love my name but I don't like when people call me maddie thats not my name!!! my name is madison get it right and when I see other people with my name I say 'hI'madison' and they get mad why I don't understand'

My name is Madison i am 16 years and i am a boy.Personally i think its a boys name hence the'sON at the end. also its meanin is SON of maud.
Hiya. I'm a male Madison born in the 70s. I had never heard of any female named Madison until that fI'm "Splash". grrrrr ha ha ha I'm usually thought of as a female until I either'show my face or write in an email "Madison (male)". i've never gotten any flak over it though. I was pretty much an adult by the time the fI'm came out and girls started being named Madison/Maddison. So, I didn't experience any teasing or anything like that. I love my name!!! Wouldn't change it for the world. :-) My nicknames are "Mad", "Maddo", and "Mad Man".
I think that Madison is a great name. I think It's beautiful.
Im Pregnant at the moment, due anytime now, ive told people im going to call my son madison and all they have done is mouth off or pull faces, it hurts my feelings and my partners, and we started to justify our reasons of choosing the name, now we no we shouldnt have to justify our reasons to anybody as its our choice, although it give me great relief knowing it was originally a boys name and i feel now that It'sounds very masculine, i just think people who want to comment on my baby boys name negatively are rude..
My cousins called Madison but she gets called Madi, i love the name :)
American meaning "gift of God" ... How much more meaningful could it be!
I like the name and despite its 'popularity' I have never met anyone with this name.
This is my name Abigail and i love my name.My father named me with joy of having a baby girl for the first time and i really enjoy his happiness everyday and meaning of the name totally amazing.i love my name Abigail while Abie in short
I'meet other people with the name Madison, but it is never a problem. I do not think that the name is over-used. Sometimes people do spell it wrong, but they always pronounce it right.
My great grandfathe's name was Madison! Its heartbreaking that now these days everyone thinks Madison is a girls name. I think Madison sound more like a boys name. I named my son Madison Shane, we call him sonny sometimes as a nickname for Madison.
My name is Madison, but I go by Maddie, most of my family calls me Madison, but my friends call me Maddie. I love my name, but I hate it when people spell Maddie wrong. I know 3 Madison's that go to my school. Its a Pretty popular name. :)
I think Madison is unusal in the'sense that it was a last name however, i agree all the girls around my time watched splash and thought that daryl hannah was the most beautiful creature on earth and wanted to name our daughters madison after her and after her originating her name from madison avenue. Cute...but not cute enough for me to name my daughter madison - way too many

I dated a guy whose nickname was Madison i fell in love with the name. when i was preggers i thought I was having a boy so the name was nicholas at the last minute i found out I was having a girl so I chose Madison. I wanted a name that she could grow into.
The number of girls (only 300 and only 1916-20) is not reliable.
My name is Madison its an OK name I don't like it too much... there is a lot of girls at my school named Madison
I like this name a lot but I would never name my daughter this because It's way too common now.
My daughters name is Madison Grace. I think the meaning of her name fits her well, as she is strong willed. She looks like a Madison and sometimes I call her Mattie. I think it is a great girls name and it is a classic.
My friends'little girl name is Madison and she is a hoot! She's almost five and hilarious.
It IS an odd name for a girl given its etymology: 'Son of...'. Great name!
my name is madison, i am ten years old and i love my name. i have found it to be very unique after all i am named after a president. What could be greater? Answer: nothing
I feel Madison is a good name for baby son and I wish to have for my family but I'm still in a long run. I am just checking for my nephew name
My daughter Olivia (which is also becoming too popular) probably knows 15 Madison's he'self and she is only 7.. lol
There are so many varients of this name! It happens to be my name :) But I spell it Lyndsi and as you can guess no one ever'spells it right.
My daugher is named Madison but it became over used now everyone has the name Madison, it is a cute name but the Madisons have replaced the Jennifers of my time...
my name is madison but everyone calls me maddie i like my name i just do not like how many people have it
Although I agree with all the people who think that this name is over-used and very popular, I still think that it is a beautiful name. And I feel that the people with the rude and degrading comments and calling people stupid because of their belief and inter'st in a name'should be ashamed of the'selves. can't we find something positive to say instead of constant negativity? And who cares if the name means "son of Maude." If I went around thinking about the meaning of everyone's name each time I called my friends or met someone new, I would be very exhausted. Get back to basics and learn some respect, please.
My son?s name is Madison. My husband and I were set on the name for a boy a long time ago, and we still love it. Family and friends gave us a hard time at first, since It's become such a popular girls name, but my husband and I both grew up with male Madisons. We gave him Richard as a middle name, and if he chooses to go by Richard in the future, that's fine. We usually call him Mads, though some use Maddie.
my name is also madison im 12 and i no girls and boys with that name and it does mean tht your a mighty warriorr or soldier and i dont like my name becuz it is a very common name
I'm only 11 but I REALLLLLLYYYYYY like the name Madison I think It'sounds pretty I hope to name my kid Madison one day Josh too I like that name
Do you think it would be better as a boy or girls name?
love it for a boys name.. but won't use it because its in the top 5 names for girls these days... too bad though.. i think a boy would get teased too much if it was used.
All the Madisons I know dont go by that name, they all go by Madi or Maddy, which are common and stupid. But people who actually are named madison and call tehmselves madison are not in the majority.
i have a friend whose name is Madison, and she is only one of two girls i know by that name. it fits her well and it is very pretty
My name is Madison, and I like it, but I don't LOVE it. I'mean, It's been used so MANY times in a row! You guys know what I'mean??
I'm a 16 Year old guy named Madison, and let me tell you it used to bother me but not so much anymore. There are tons of Madison (Girls) in my classes and it does get confusing. The most frustrating part is when people ask if its a girl's name. People making fun of my name used to be a big problem, but now i've just come to shake it off. I'mean, I like my name, and where is the logic in making fun of somebody's name when its their parents who picked it?
Horrendous. As Tom Hanks said "but Madison Isn't a name!". What's next? Will everybody be naming their daughter "Apple" now because of Gwyneth Paltrow? Or maybe "Window", or "Desk".... She'sh!
Madison is a beautiful name. If you think it is a stupid name you are probably quite ignorant yourself for getting so bent out of shape over a name in the first place.
My name is Madison and I love the name although it is very common. I know 7 other people with the'same name and 2 of them also have my middle name, Brooke. My family and some of my friends call me "Maddie". I don't mind it, but as a name for a child I would choose something other than Madison or Maddie, because the name is so common.
My first name is very unique. When my name is typed into this (or any other'search engine, it can not be found...It's not even in name list books). I have grown up not liking my name, have to constantly spell it and pronounce it. Every one says it wrong so my nick name is even worse. My husband has a very classic popular name and we have concluded that perhaps it Isn't so bad to have a popular name that everyone likes and is familiar with. If you like it that's all that matters.
I chose "Madison" years ago, in honor of my three nieces' last name....my daughter was born in 2014, and is named Madison Alice. It's funny, because even'though It's common, there are still people who have never even heard of it :)
my daughters name is madison rose she is 15 weeks old.i live in dublin, ireland so it is quite an unusual name here.people do always say its a lovely name when'they hear.only girls name i had searched all the'sIt's love the american names very different not a fan of plain names
Hi, My name is Madison and i am a boy. I dont think my name is bad but i have been'teased once or twice but not much. it is a very uniche and cool name for a boy because it means son of or son of a warrior. I think madison is more of a boys name it even sounds it.
my name is madison and i was named after the mermaid madison in splash. i am an aquarius too! how weird. i love my name but hate how it is getting soooo popular.
Way too common. My name is Abbygail so I'm Abby for short but i wish i was ABBIE
My name is Madison, but I personally despise it. I go to school, and sometimes there can be up to seven other Madison(s) in the'same class; the name is over'sed, in my opinion. i've tried to come up with clever nicknames that don't utilize any form of "Maddie" or "Madi", etc., but people tend to lean back towards common nicknames and such for its accessibility. Another problem with my name is that people can easily confuse me with another Madison if they don't know me personally. Sometimes I'll have random strangers walk up to me and say, "Hey, aren't you Madison ____," and I just tend to cringe. Don't get me wrong, It's not a terrible name, but there are so many names that are much more creative.
Love my name, Madison! I know only one other, and she is very young but know of a some more! I am not so sure how it has been number 3 on the popular baby name list! Emily yes, but Madison! Seriously, I would think Madeleine would be more popular! i love my name!!!
My daughter's name is Madison Sophia, she is 11months old and i don't regret her name on bit i love it.
"madison danielle" is the name i have chosen for my daughter (due july 29th!) and i will call her "maddy"... i've always loved this name and have never even heard of, let alone seen'the movie "Splash." (I'm 18 so It's a bit too old for me) it doesn't bother me that it is so popular because It's such a pretty name!
It really doesn't make any sense to give a girl a name that ends in -son.
My name is Madison and I'm a 16 year old girl. The name Madison is not masculine to me, but I think it could be a cute boy's name. They say because of the'sON at the end, it makes it masculine. This is not true. Do you also think AliSON is a boy name?
I had a babygirl Dec 2020 and I named her Madison Taryn however I spelt her name as Madysson. Everyone loves my choice of spelling lol but we call her Maddy for short. I have always thought it was a beautiful name.
My name is Madison, and sadly, this is the'second year of me being teased. In 3rd grade I just went by my middle name (zakai [zuh---k---eye) because a girl moved in named Madison. But now I am in 6th grade and It'started happening again, but they won't let me go by anything else. I don't know what to do. I was named after 2 other people in my family, and I refuse to change my name. I don't want them to go heartbroken! What should I do?
My name is Maddison Brooke and I'm 13. i like my name but its just a little too long and formal for my tastes so most of my friends call me Maddie but my two closest friends call me Maddilones.
My granddaughters' name is Madison. I love the name and how popular it is.
im having a baby in june and i want to call her madison....but i cant decide on a middle name..i like the name leigh...any suggestions..???:):)please>>>
My name is Preston Kramer Madison and I definitely like it... Though It's become popular as a girl's name because of a fI'm, the origin and ethymology make it the perfect choice for a handsome charming guy as myself.
i can't stand it! all of the madison's i know are mean or used to be mean! and the name'sounds sooo... snobbish. but! there is one madison i do know that is nice, but i don't think you should name your child this...wait for about ten years and the name might be kinda out........
My name is Madison and I'm 20 years old and cannot stand how there are 10-20 Madison's in the birth announcements every day...Think up your own name instead of copying everyone else's. It's so obnoxious.
My daughter is Madison too! And I like many othe's picked it up originally from Splash and then from a Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeifer (not sure how to spell her last name)movie! I personally think it is a strong female name when used as Madison. We call her Madi at times, but she is young. My only issue after we named her was the increase in popularity of the name or should I say the reported increase. Supposedly its been a top 10 for years now. But in 2 years of preschool we have never had 1 Madison in her class nor ran across 1 except a 5 year old when my daughter first entered the program! So I think it can be a region thing too! It all just depends. Plus, I think if you like the name and it is spelled correctly and not so bizarre that your child won't be taunted...then go for it!
don't like how common it has become better as a surname
Sure, It's common. I knew a woman in the mid-90's with two little girls, Nikki & Madison. I know people who have named their daughters some VERY trendy and/or overplayed names: Ashley, Jennifer, Brittany or Britney, Amber, Michelle, Nicole, Taylor, Logan, Mackenzie, Caleigh, Meghan or Meagan, Che'sea, Jordan, Kelsey, Kelli, Chelleigh, Erin, Melissa, Amanda, Katie, Kristin, etc. Now classic names like Hannah & Grace are becoming "trendy"! Madison could be a unique name for a girl if it weren't so commonly used. Same with Taylor. i've seen different spellings of Madison too: Maddyson, Madyson, Madisyn, Maddicyn, Maddicynne. Silly. There are so many unique, feminine names out there...and if you have to give your daughter a trendy name, at least spell it in a way that can be understood! Besides, children will grow up and beli've it or not, they will be teased for having silly-trendy cutesy names. Mackenzie Phillips used to be a heroin addict but there's a crop of trendy moms naming their girls Mackenzie. Most trendy names sound overly played-out, silly, pretentious, masculine, or adult fI'my.
my name is madison, i am a boy, and i am proud of my name. I have never met another boy with the name 'madison,' but i have met lots of girls with the name 'madison.'
My name is Madison Marie I am 12 years old madison is a little common but more common in littler kids.
madison is such a nice name i give it a 10 star out of a 10 stars thats how good it is
i know a madison she is really mean but sometimes the name doesnt always make the person. i think It's boring to be named after a city and more fun to have an actual name thats unique and exotic. its getting way too popular.
I have a beautiful daughter I named Madison, her name is very soft and very cute to me. I called her Maddi. Whatever name you love, you should name your child that. Who cares what people think, they're just jealous and mean when'their name are not Madison.
"Madison" seemed to become popular for a girl's name after the movie "Splash". What's inter'sting is that the mermaid's name was not "Madison"; she (the mermaid) picked it up off a street sign in NYC. So, actually these young girls are being named after a street!
My name is Madison, and I am 17 years old. In the city I live in, I have only met one other girl my age with the name. I love it, but I hate it when people call me Maddie. It's so cute when little girls come up to me and say My name is Madison too!" It makes me feel special.
Yeah my names Raekwon ilive in eastprovidence and iknow 2 other raekwons and they are the'same age and are in my same class most of my teache's spell my name. Raequan or Rae-Kwon but usualy they pronouce it right when i write my name on office word it tries to tell me It's not a word lol my mom named me raekwon because she thinks It's unique or how ever u spell that
My name is Madisan. I am 9 years old. My name is spelled differently from how most people spell it. I have never met another person who spells it the way I do. My parents say I am lucky that my name is spelled differently. Sometimes I agree with them, but every now and then I think I am a little unlucky.
Madison also means God's mighty warrior for all you people out there making negative comments about the'surname meaning. If you all did more indepth searchs you might find out something more inter'sting.
