I love my name because it is different. Most people I have met with this name are actually named Nancy or Nannette. People always ask me what It's short for but It's not a nickname. It's my name.

People usually thinks it is a shorten form of Nanny or Nancy and I have to tell them it is actually Nan (a three letter word). I do not know of many people her in Barbados with this name. People tend to like it because it is not a common name here.

YOU GOT IT! My name is Yahaira, too... and I just love that a lot of other Yahairas on here have also been'telling the novela story... because that's exactly what I have been doing all my life! Everyone always mispronounces it of course. I get Ya-HAIR-a, Ya-Hai-RRa, and everything in between. I love my name regardless, though. It's unique and beautiful and I'm glad my mom was such a novela fan! haha! i've only met one other girl with the'same name, but it was spelled with a "j" instead of an "h."

I was named Nancy at birth in 1967. In 1st grade there were 5 of us in one class of 25! By 7th grade I toyed with shortening it to Nan...there was a model in Millie the Model comics by Marvel or DC. Eventually , at 60, with my family dead and no one to answer to about it, I told my friends to call me Nan. My SS and banking remain, but I found it freeing and joyful! I no longer get mixed up on Facebook or have banks send money to the wrong person with a common last name, also.

While Adam might be an all time hit, it has always been unique enough to warrant being the only Adam in'the'school/work etc. I didn't think it was that common growing up. (b1979) But I do get called Andy/Alan a third of the time.

This is my name. It wasn't nearly so popular when I was a kid -- I was always having to tell people "No, not Alice. Allison." I love my name but I'm sorry it got so popular among, well, everyone. Every trailer park has sisters named Ashley and Allison running around. It doesn't have the cache it used to have, paired with a name like Ashley. Brr.
