Borne in recent years by American astronaut Neil Armstrong, who in 1981 became the first man to land on the Moon, and by songsters Neil DI'mond and Neil Young, American and Canadian respectively. Unfortunately, this once-popular boy's name is mainly restricted to dads and grandfathe's these days. Nevertheless, It'sounds fresh and innovative when used for a young girl, just like all them other old mannish names ripe for female adoption, such as Wayne and Gary and Roy and Stanley.
This is my Dad's, my husbands, and my sons name. All "PH"! Out of all the more common boys names it is the best! Love all my Stephen's.
Neil is becoming more popular in the US. The name Neil is also popular in India, although I beli've it is spelled differently.
I get people trying to spell it Neal, and I tell them that Neals are idiots. I wondered if Neil Armstrong had anything to do with the popularity around the time I was born (1984). didn't even'think of Young or DI'mond.
I was named Neil in the UK 1969.Always thought it quite suited me & like that its not too common. My own mother used to sometimes misspell it, Niel instead of Neil.Much to the dI'may of a teacher one time whist reading a sick note. I have also very often been refered to as Ian.
Great name'strong and masculine as are the Neil❤️s i've known
"Neal"s are inferior to us. They can have their fake spelling of our name for all I care.
It's a nice strong masculine name, that is coming back in fashion like many other old names.
My name is Neil. It's a pretty decent name. Unusual enough so I am usually the only Neil in a group. I was definitely the only Neil through school and college.
People often mispell it, using the "Neal" spelling
i've never liked it and thought it wasn't very masculine. Too much like squeal. For some reason It's common for people named Neil to get called Ian by mistake. lol
