My name is Denis and when I was growing up I was often called "Dennis the Menace." Of course each adult thought it was original. This annoyed me. Other Denis/Dennis's would embrace it. Now that I am bald I don't get called that any more. People will misspell my name with two "n"s but that is to be understandable. I only correct them if it is a form or for legal work. Othe's will put an "e" at the end which is the female form and pronounced differently. I will correct them for that as well. I never disliked the name but when I think of all the common names and all the odd ball names I rate it as a very good name.
