While expecting our third child, I seriously considered David for a name and then chose Douglas partly after a dear friend of ours and partly because it was a strong masculine name and not the overused Aaron and Sean that were so popular in 1977. Doug is still quite happy with his name.
That's my name and It's great unique enough to be cool but n't considered fancy or trendy
Im A Douglas And im 11 Years old the only thing I don't like is I was named after my dad and he did drugs.
I am a Douglas as well. It is my understanding that outside of the UK and USA, the largest concentration of people named Douglas is in'the Manila area of the Philippines due to general Douglas MacArthur and his return'to that country to end the Japanese occupation during WWII. I am inter'sted in knowing if this is true❤️
Hi. I'm a Douglas from 1970 from Scotland. Douglas means dark stream or dark waters and n't just "dark" and is of celtic origin (all the celtic languages have its equivalent). The welsh would be Dduglas (pronounced thee-glas) which means blue (dark) stream. Douglas as a name is (except for one of Arnold Schwarzenegger characters) normally the idiot, the one you wouldn't want to be, the'slimy one. For example "Doug" in'the fI'm The Jackal with Bruce Willis, "Douglas" the nurse in'termin'tor 2, and I could name more. Having lived out of anglosaxon speaking countries for the last 17 years (currently in Spain) it has been spelt all wrong everywhere but more inter'sting than'this is that the vocal sound in'the name "d OU glas" the "ou" almost doesn't exist in european languages outside of english, and additionally in spain'the'spanish don't hear a word if you shorten in'to Doug. So here I'm the full Douglas or rather "Doooglas". And so on.
I read a book by jude deveraux and the lead (female) charactor was a woman named Douglas. I decided that was what I would name my baby. When I had a boy, he got the name Douglas, because I loved it either way!! JA
I'm a Douglas! I think I was named after Gen. Douglas MacArthur. I didn't like it when I was younger, but I have grown'to love it. I probably didn't like it as a kid because it now seems to be a more mature name. But if I have a boy, I don't think I'll name him Douglas.
I'm a Douglas who moved to Spain in 1995. I was surprised to see that there was a popular brand of brand of chewing gum sold here called "Douglas". I haven't seen it in a while, though. The Douglas cosmetics stores are very popular in Spain (and, I beli've, in all of Europe). The company was founded in Germany 199 years ago by a Scottish I'migrant named John Sharp Douglas. Here in Spain people pronounce my name "DOO-glahs" or, if they know a bit of English, "DAH-glahs". There never was a Saint Douglas, so there is no official or unofficial translation of the name to Spanish.
A strong name - with an ancient feel. Conjures mountains, water, adventure and the far horizon. Wire strung harps echo in its sound - and the roar of the ocean on northern shores. HeroI'm haunts it and destiny awaits the boy so named. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
