Halley arises as a locational surname from places in Essex and Derbyshire. The Derbyshire place name, recorded as "Haileia" in the 1086 Domesday Book and as "Hayley" in 1227, derives from the Old English "heg", meaning "hay", and "leah", signifying a "wood" or "clearing"; hence, "clearing or meadow from which hay is harvested". Essex's place is recorded as "Halegewe" in the 1236 Feet of Fines, translating it to 'a hero's grove'.
The name Halley gained considerable fame through Halley's Comet, named after the English astronomer Edmund Halley. The dazzling celestial body that periodically graces our skies provides a fascinating twist to this name. People with this name are often considered adaptable and resilient, just as the meteor that withstands its lengthy journey across the cosmos. i plan to name my baby girl halley. i love the name!
My name is Halley! I hated it when I was younger because it was ALWAYS mispronounced. People say Hayley or Holly. But it is pronounced Haallie. Like Halle Berry. I love my name now! I get a lot of compliments on it and it is a very rare, and I think pretty name. Once I got to college I'met 2 other girls named Halley, which was the first time I had met anyone with my name!
I named my daughter Halley because it is my mom's maiden name. I call her Hal as a nickname. Almost everyone call her Hailey at first. If she would have been a boy, I still would have named her Halley in honor of my mom. It really suits her and is very special to me.
We named our daughter Hallie after her great great grandmother Halycon - who was called Hallie for short. Her name is pronounced like Sally, but people often mispronounce it. We love it, think she does too.
Just cause It's smpile doesn't mean It's not super helpful.
