Jasper is the English version of Caspar. Caspar is a character in Bible. Caspar was a Magi who visited Jesus after his birth and gave him than incense. The name of Casper and his other companions isn't mentioned in the Bible but the name is given in other texts and accounts of the incident. Etymologically, Caspar comes from the Persian word Gaspar for ‘treasurer, or treasure bringer’ which is compatible with the fact that Caspar brought some gifts for Jesus. In another hypothesis, Jasper is an English word for the reddish gemstone. If we follow the history of this word, we will reach another Persian word which is yašp. Yašp means ‘spotted or freckled stone’.
