My name is Kecia and I African-American female 42 years old. My parents attended a fashion show in Europe and named me after a model from Scandinavia. I knew my name was unique in sound and spelling. All that changed when'the Cosby Show appeared in the 80s. The actress that portrayed the cutie Rudy Huxtable also name Kecia but she'spells it "Keisha" which is phonetic and according to my parents, incorrect. Now we have a generation of LaKeishas, TreKeishas -- you know what Im talking about. Can someone tell me how did a nice unique name become ghetto-fabulous❤️❤️❤️❤️

My name is Kecia and I am a 27 yr old African American female from SC. My name is pronounced Kee-sha. Growing up I got called Keh-see-ah, Ke-ziah, Kee-sah, to name a few. People often get this confused look on their faces when'they see it and they look even more confused when I tell them how it is actually pronounced. I don't know how many times i've had to reference the name Alicia to get them to understand the pronunciation and spelling. I loved my name back then, and I love it even more now! I'm so happy to know there are so many like "us" in this world!
I am a Kecia, white, born in south Mississippi in 1975. Mother got the name from a model in a hardback Glamour beaty book. People are usually confounded by the'spelling which is so simple. People do think I'm black when'they hear the name.
My name is Kecia as well.i've been searching for the oldest Kecia.I found one that came close. I was born in August and she was born in Sept we are both 45..I love love my name and I always get compliments...but am still searching for a Kecia that's older then me...

My name is 'Kecia and I am black.. People call me Keisha all the time. My name is pronounced like Lisa with a "K"...
My father named me. He told me that he'saw a sweedish covergirl model in a magazine and her name was Kecia. He thought she was beautiful and named me after her. I later found out her name was Kecia Nyman and yes, she was in fact a sweedish model. I did try and get information about her, but not sure if it was accurate. I was born in 1977 and it was then she really became famous. I like the'spelling. Very unique. Going thru school was hell. No one knew how to say it, spell it and most thought it was a nickname. I still have the'same issues today. Now I am sterotyped as being black. Growing up no one heard of my name and most wanted to know where it came from. I always said a sweedish model. If anyone has information regarding her, it would be kewl to find out more about her. It'seemed she had a large following and many had a fasination with her. There is a Kecia Club on Facebook. Add yourself. It is awesome to find so many Kecia's.
My name is Kecia as well i am a native american from oregon. I hate that people cant pronouce my name at first but so many people LOVE it.
My name is Kecia pronounced Kee-sa. Is that how the model pronounced her name❤️ I was born in 1987 and there are no clear answers from my parents on It's origin. I would love to find a picture or more information about this model. I do love my name but I am constantly correcting people who want to say Kesha. I did meet a woman with the'same spelling AND pronounciation once.
My name is Kecia rhymes with Patricia. I was born in 1981, my mom named me after a college friend's niece. She thought the'spelling was beautiful and saved that name until she had her first child. "ME". I love my name I run into women every now and then with the'same spelling white and black. I even named my son Kecion (kee shon).
My name is famous and it Isn't Keesha, Keisha, keysha, It's pronounced with a silent e as an a....so It's Ka Cia...from Finland... The name I received from the model Kecia in 1976. The name is unique and has style when pronounced right. I love it the people call me Keisha because that is the American way of saying a name that Isn't said correctly. I love it because I have the opportunity to correct everyone on how it is really pronounced and be proud to say after 51 years my identity of an England name is special to me.
I am Asian, adopted by a white family. I was born in 1986. My mom claimed she was playing with names and came up with the name, but I suspect that it cane from seeing or hearing about the European model since it was just after that time frame. On the "correct" pronunciation: there are just possibilities, It's subjective based on what your parents or whomever named you, wants to pronounce it. My mom pronounced it Key-sha. But most people want to say Kee-shia or Keece-e-ya. I am 36 and i've made some friends on FB based on our name. I thought it was very, very rare. By the way, Kecia Nyman is on FB, she was a friend and part of our group of friends called Kecia. I don't think she is now, and none of the us have met yet...
My name is Keisha.I have always wondered if it had an actual meaning, or if it was just made up. I am 28 years old, and people have always thought that my name was inter'sting. I once had an assignment in school, to do a report on the meaning of my name. At the time, I did not beli've that it meant anything. If anyone knows what this name means, and where it originated, please share!
This is GROSS! It's one of them ultimate "geeky" names alongside Wilfred, Herman, Clarence, and Mortimer. It's also considered by most Americans to be a "BrIt'sh old man" name, borne in'the early 20th century by the English circus proprietor Bertram Mills.
my name is kecia and i am white and i have never met anyone with this name and it always is pronounced wrong
My daughter was born 3 and a half months early on 8th feb 2017 her name is kecia - Lee we pronounce it Key-see-ya a unique name for a unique little girl
Hi, I too am Kecia born in 1976 in California. I have always loved my name. My name is pronounced Kee-sha. I too have spent my life having it mispronounced. I'm just amazed after reading the other Kecia's out there how some pronounce it. Happy to be in the exclusive club of Kecia's.
I named my frist born Kecia. She was born in 1997. People misspell her name "Keisha". They never'say it correctly.
My name is Kecia too. I think there's different ways to prunounce our name.. Becourse in english its like 'Keysha' but in danish its totally different. Im half danish -half greenlandic. I would like to know if anybody knows what Kecia means❤️ I have tried to find out, but I can't.
My name is Kecia and I pronounce it "Keysha". I was born in 1982 and my dad said it was the name of a model he'saw in a magazine. The magazine was a Playboy (July '67) and I was always embarrassed by that as a kid. I didn't find out she was a famous European model until years later, as a adult he'showed me the magazine, which he had saved. i've only met one other girl with the'same name and spelling and her parents heard the name while traveling in Europe. She is also my age. I'm half Japanese and half Mexican and most people are surprised to meet me and see that I am not black. I love the uniqueness of the'spelling and get tons of compliments on my name. i've learned to love it and I love to see that there are so many of us out there.
My name is Kecia. and It's pronounced Key-sha, and I'll be 50 in October.
Hello my name is Kecia and i hated my name growing up because teache's would pronouce it Ke ca or Ke cee a and the children would laugh. As i got older a lot of people would comment on my name'saying how do you pronouce it its pretty or different so now I like my name. However i thought i was the only Kecia out here. I was named after my moms best friend in high schools niece. I am now 32 years old. People often do say it is an african name. But i am half Filipino and Mexican so i dont see any african in me.
I was also named after the model, Kecia NI'mann, who is Finnish. I was told that'she was a Covergirl model and after I was born, she appeared in Playboy magazine. I am a white female and 45 years old. It wasn't until I was an adult I heard the name again. A lady called me on the phone (for her company, and didn't know my first name when she called), and we were both surprised to know we had the'same name. Although, she was surprised that I was not African American, like her, and her name was spelled differently. Many people have told me that they had a dog named Kecia (probably spelled Keesha, for the Keeshond. I was three when I learned to spell it, as that was the first thing everyone would ask me after hearing my name. I have always loved my name, as it is so unique.
Hello. My name is Kecia..pronounced Key-sha. I was born in 1977. I am also told my father heard the name when he was stationed overseas in the Air Force. He was in Thailand. I was not certain the origin of the name. I had heard that the person after whom I was named was famous, but did not know in what way. Of course I dealt with the butchering of my name that many othe's have indicated. I became used to it. Of course now everyone knows how to pronounce the name, I just often hear that way my name is spelled is unique.
My name is Kecia. i was born in 1977,i am afican american. growing up i didn't like my name because it was not popular like my classmatess. they had common names like, renee, stacey, karen, lori etc. now i love my name. i have a braclet, ring, a necklace and anklet all with my name on it. when I'meet "kecia's" who spell their name the "correct" way, they are usually born in the mid to late 60's. hey let's have a kecia get together.nimagine all the kecia's from around the world getting together.
HI'my name is also Kecia (pronounced Keh-see-uh). I was born in 1979 and also named after the model. I live in Canada and my parents saw her on tv. I hated my name as a child as everyone mispronounced it and most girls had common names but I love it now!
i am called Kecia also, I was born in 1977 and i was also named after the'scandinavian model (my father'says she was Danish and she advertised Palmolive on TV, and the voiceover'said 'She's big, she's beautiful, she's Kecia' and it wrote the words on the'screen at teh same time, so they knew how to spell it. I have been'told by a Kosovar friend that it means rain in Serbian, but I think it comes from the Bible. Keziah was one of Job's daughters, and Keziah and her'sister Keren Heppuch so impressed their father that he left them in his will 'along with his sons'. i've also been'told that Kecia means 'stupid, or not good at games' in Sudanese Arabic. You can't win them all... there is a pop star here in Britain called Kisha Buchanan and I'm worried that every man and his dog will call their daughters Kecia, but It'still seems to be quite rare. I think i've only ever met one other Kecia face to face and she'spelled it Kisha. That was in california.
My family pronounces my name Key-sa. I like Key-c-a better. I was born June 25, 1976. I was named after the'same covergirl model.
My name is Kecia and I didnt know anyone else with my name until I'met a girl I worked with. Although she'said he's different. Myspace introduced me to alot of people with the'same name name. They have contacted me and we have talked. I searched my name on myspace as well and was surprised that there were caucasian girls with that name. I love my name! (even if people say it wrong)
My name is Kecia pronounced Key-sha. I was born in January of 1980 in Detroit my Mother intended to name me Kezia. Job's daughter from the bible but when it was written it was misspelled as Kecia. She did notice the error but decided to leave it because she thought as I do it was beautiful.
I'm also a Kecia from the united kingdom! My name is pronounced kessia I get loads of compliments for my name, good choice mum
My name is Kecia, pronounced Key-sha. I was born in 1975 on the MS Gulf Coast. I always heard my mom got it the name from some Hawaiian Punch commerical. i've met about 3 othe's with the'same spelling, they happened to be white, while I am African American. We were all around the'same age. Job, from the Bible, had a daughter named Kezia. he'supposedly had the most beautiful daughters. I also found a Kezia in our family tree. Umm... commercial or family name❤️ I had one telemarketer tell me, "that's not how you spell Key-sha." I replied, "that's how my momma spell it." LOL Needless to say, she didn't get a sale!
Hello...my daughter's name is Kecia! I named her after her God-Mother and had never met anyone else who spelled their name the'same other than those two people. I think it is a beautiful, unique name, just like my daughter!
My name is Kecia too. My mother told me she'saw a commercial and they flashed the name across the'screen. I am 44 years old, no one was able to pronounce my name until later in life. I only heard of a few people spell there name like mine. Many people have told me they've never'seen my name'spelled that way. I did not like my name because it was pronounce so many ways except the correct. I had to get older to appreciate how special the name really is.
my first daughter was born in august 2018 in switzerland, and her name is kecia. we found this name in the bible and changed the name only a little bit (Kezia- was a daughter of job) but also in switzerland nobody knows how to pronounce this name :-)
My name is also Kecia pronounced Keesa. I was born in 1974 and was named after the famous model by my mom who also modeled. People have always expected me to be a black women, I'm actually caucasian. I love my name because it is unique. I do hear my name more often now then during my younger years. I have been'told that Kecia means summer, and biblically it means little Jesus. Doing research now to find the actual meaning of my name.
My name is Kecia. I was born in 2002 growing up i had difficulties with people trying to spell & pronounce my name. My aunt gave me my name i think It's very unique. i never taught my name was so popular even'though i find out It's so popular i still love it.
I'm 37..named Kecia. I have always hated my name. No one ever'spelled it correctly or pronounced it right. I always felt embarrassed. I have heard the "oh, You're not black" thing alot too. Which I think is funny...that a name can be so closely associated with a skin color. I had heard that the origin was swedish but this is the first time I have heard about the model..that makes sense now. Glad I googled this!
Hi to all the Kecia❤️s! I'm here because I stumbled across the 60❤️s model pic online. Oh, and my name is Kecia too! Cool to see how her name is pronounced. Growing up, teache's in school always pronounced my name for the first time as Key-See-Ah. In college, I would pronounce it that way if I didn't want to give a guy my ❤️real name❤️ lol...it was just a phase. My mother pronounces it ❤️Kee-Sha❤️. My big sister named me...saved me rather. My mother was going to name me Vanessa May...I am NOT a Vanessa May lolol. I love the'spelling of my name more than anything tho. It's unique and most of the time I do have to tell people how I pronounce it.
Wow this site really blew my mind when I read the comments about the Autumn/Amber association. My daughter, who is 8, started as an Amber but family members wrecked the name for me when I was very pregnant by running around the house singing Amber alert... Amber alert... and I got completely turned off by the name by the time I went into labor that when she was born I had no clue what to name her. When I finally was able to hold her in the hospital I looked into her big brown eyes and Autumn just came out of my mouth... Everyone loved it and she was named Autumn. How crazy that'she was an Amber for most of the pregnancy!!!
Hello I am the mother of a 44 year old daughter and her name is Kecia, now here is where the name originated back in 1975 there was a Cover Girl t.v. commercial that came on and I will quote what the model use to say"Hello my name is Kecia and I'm a scandinavian model" (her name was spelled out on the bottom left hand screen of our television I was only 18 years old back then, and i promised myself that if I ever had a daughter I would name her Kecia, well when I was 20 years old my first child who was then a girl (remember I said she is 44 years old now) became one of the FIRST african american girls with that name. I am now 64 years old so this name is really old. Many people back then'thought it was the most beautiful name that they have ever heard, my little girl got soooo many compliments back then, now this name has been misspelled, and butchered, by those in the black community many often spelling it the way that It'sounds. Well now you all know its Real Origin, Scandinavia.

I'm another Kecia named after the model Kecia Nyman and It's amazing how many women I have found also named after her as well as a few in this posting that have birthdays (literally the day of the year) as my bday - I was born on May 30 1984. I love it!!!
My name is Kecia! I was born in January 1976. I used to wonder if I was the oldest Kecia in the world until I read the attached thread. As a child, I lacked the confidence to say my name proudly. Now, I enjoy it. Many have told me that my name is not spelled correctly but I told them that to my knowledge I was the only Kecia. Glad to know that there are othe's with such a beautiful name and I can proudly say we probably all have beautiful personalities! By the way, I have a twin brother...no his name Isn't similar in pronounciation.
My name is Kecia. I am an African-American women born in 1987.
I was born in 1977 and was given'the name Kecia from a Scandinavian model named Kecia Neiman, who appeared in Cover Girl make-up commercials in 1977. I was told it was pronounced 'key-sha' because that is how the model pronounced it when she'said her name on TV. I have an uncle (in-law) from BelgI'm who told me that it use to be a fairly common name when he was young in BelgI'm. i've since named three of my own children and always try to look up the meaning/origin of the name Kecia in all those name books. Kecia is invariably referred to as a derivative of Keisha, which they list as an african princess name. The Keesha/Lakeisha name incidentally became popular in America in the decades that followed this first wave of the use of the name Kecia (named after the model on TV). I guess the next group didn't know how it was spelled because they no longer ran those commercials. They, actually, may have gotten it from a friend who got it from the model and wanted to spell it a little different. It wouldn't be the first time television influenced the names we give our children. I always wished there had been more significance behind my given name than "I got it from TV." It was not even'the name of a character from any particular program. It was from a commercial, no less. Nevertheless, it is my name and it is up to all of us Kecias/Lakeishas/Keeshas and however you want to spell it to set our own definition of the name for future name books.
Hi, My name is Kecia. I rarely meet othe's with my name and never witht the'spelling correct. My favorite momento about my name is when a black friend told me that I had a "black girl's name." I asked him now who is biased❤️

I'm a Kecia too. (key-sha) I'm 44 and from Louisiana. My mom told me she'saw this model on TV and liked the name. I never knew who she was talking about until now. I'm white. Growing up, I knew of no one named Kecia. There were a couple of girls a few years younger than me that had the name with the different spelling (keesha). They were African American. Growing up, no one would pronounce my name correctly. The two most common attempts were kee-see-a and ketch-a. In the last decade maybe, people pronounce it correctly on the first try. i've always liked my name. I wonder where the model got her name from.

I haven't met to many other "Kecia's" in my lifetime. Most of the time when I'm introduced to someone who has heard about me they are shocked to find out that I am not African American! My parents named me after a caucasian woman and were as surprised as me to learn that it is predominantly an African name!
My name is Kecia pronounced Ka cia and I live in Kingston, Jamaica. All my life it was pronounced incorrectly by my teache's and friends when'they first saw it. After they were told how it is really pronounced they absolutely loved it but i grew up not liking my name because it was so often pronounced Keesha, Casey etc etc.I have not many othe's with my name but I know its popular nowadays. Its actually unique and pretty!
My name is Kecia and I was born in 1977. My mom also got the name from the cover girl model. Most people do pronounce my name incorrect- They will say kaey-ci-a or they will spell it keyshia-if i tell them my name and they try to spell it, but when'they see how I spell it, they will complimet on it. I love my name and the unique way that it is spell.
My name is Kecia. I'm a Canadian girl, born in 1984. My mother named me after a model named Kecia NI'mann. Apparently, in addition to modelling in fashion magazines, KN also appeared on Kotex boxes back in the day (Mom put the cardboard cut-out of her face in my baby book!) I have heard a variety of meanings behind the name. Lots of Hungarian people have told me it means "rain" (that'spelling in particular) and so i've heard that explanation often enough to beli've them. But: A Russian boy told me it means "kitten." A Finnish woman told me it means "peach" in her language. When I visited Japan, people laughed at hearing my name, because there is a popular children's song about a train: "Kee-sha, kee-sha, shuppa, shuppa, shuppa, shuppa, shup-po-po!" I guess Kecia means train in Japanese! My roommate's Italian mother never called me by name for years, until she revealed that in Sicilian slang, Kecia means "B*tch." "Keziah" is also a biblical name, from the'same root as "cassia," which is affiliated with the'scientific name for cinnamon. I was introduced to a young African-American woman a few years ago who was deeply offended by my name. "That's a BLACK name!" she'said, as though my mother had misappropriated it. Yup, I wish people knew how to properly pronounce and spell it. But overall, I adore my name. It's unique, and feminine, and pretty, and I'm very lucky to have it! If you are able to confI'm any of the meanings people have suggested to me, I'd be delighted to hear about it.

My name is Kecia pronounced the correct way as the Cover Girl Model Kecia Nyman from the 60's. I am a 1976 Baby and the e is pronounced as an a so it is Ka cia. The name originates from Finland. For anyone with the name that would like to know. The model is around 69yrs old now and living well. So the name is over 70 yrs old and everyone with It'should do there research because it Isn't Keisha, Kisha, keecha, Keysha. It is said if pronounced like KECIA. It is very unique and different from the rest. So it is a good thing. Lol from New York, New York
Well, my name is Keysha and I love that name. It's so original.
My name is Kecia and I was born in 1976 in NYC. Both of my parents were Musicians that travelled the world and Kecia NI'mann was a personal friend of theirs. According to my mother when she first met Kecia she told her how much she loved her name and that'she would name her first daughter after her and so here I am. Now 44 years later I'm finding that their are a lot of "KECIA" not all those wanna be's with the'same name correctly spelled too. The only thing that makes me angry is the fact that people associate the name with one ethnicity and that they are telling people that the origin of the name is African. Nope sorry Wrongo it is swedish it translates into "sunrise/sunset" not an African queen (Africa and Sweden are a long distance apart) just thoght I'd clear the record. KECIA
My name is Keasha Leandra. I was born in 1966. I was told the name was russian or slavik and the ture spelling was Kecia. I did not know about the model. In the late 70's a girlfriend named her daughter after me LeKeasha.
my name is kecia i am 12 years old born in 2007 people always say my namwe wrong but when i correct them they always say it is pretty i LOVE my name'so much!!
My name is Kecia and I am African-American. I used to beli've that Kecia was synonomous with Black female but I just Googled the name and came up with a wide range of women who share my name. They are white, they are Indian, they are Asian and they are Black. I was very surprised! And yes, people mispronouce it all the time. They usually will say Key-c-a instead of the proper pronunciation of Key-sha.
My name is Kecia too!! I am Native american from Warm Springs Oregon I am Still in High school i LOVE my name never met no one with my name around here....
My experience has been'the'same as many of the othe's. People assume I'm black if they haven't met me, don't know how to pronounce it, I hated it when I was younger, I was told it was the name of a model, and I have no idea of its origin or meaning. I have met only two other people that'spell it the'same as me. It's nice to know I'm not alone, but we're not common either! By the way, I pronounce it Keesha and I'm 31.
My name is Kecia. I LOVE my name! I just happened upon this site. My mom said she named me after the model who's photo I am just seeing for the first time. I was born in 1977 and have not met any Kecia's older than me. I'm proud to have (what is now considered)the unusual spelling of my name. I often correct people on the pronunciation, but most people get it right...
I too, am a girl born in 1977 after my mom saw a Covergirl model on tv. I was born in Ohio and my name is Kecia (pronounced Kisha) . I have red hair and hazel eyes. My mom always said the model was Swedish but the only known model at that time was German model Kecia Nyman. Perhaps her geography is off❤️ Was Kecia Nyman a Covergirl model in 64-65❤️
My name is Kecia as well. Born in 1977. I am black but yesterday met a caucasian woman whose name is Kishia (pronounced Key-sha too). I was excited and asked her questions about the origin so I decided to seek some answers myself. My mother told me she named me after a model, but couldn't remember where she was from! Thank you all for the comments and I LOVE MY NAME AND It's SPELLING!
My name is Kecia (pronounced Key-sha), and the only thing I hate is when people don't know how to say it! They pronounce it Cu-see-a or Kay-see-a. It just don't give off the "sh" sound. I am 23 years old, Caucasian, born in 1996. My mom named me after the granddaughter or a lady she worked with at the time..
Hello!! My name is Kecia (pronounced Key-sha). I was born Nov 3,1981. I am caucasion. When people have seen my name in writing and then meet me in person, they say, " Oh, your're white." Yes, most people mispell and mispronounce it all the time! When someone does get it right I am amazed. My Mom told me she heard the name while pregnant. She'said it was a Scandinavian Olympic skier. So who knows. Surprisingly, people ask how to spell my last name and not my first name because they assume they know how to spell. My maiden last name was House and my married name is Blue--go figure!!! I like having an unusual name.
My name is Kecia. My aunt Pat names me. I love my name. I never heard of the model, until now. Nice. ❤️
I named my daughter KECIA in June 1977,after'seeing a covergirl model on TV.
My name is Kecia. I was born, raised and currently live in New York. My mother told me that I too was named after the model from the 60's. I am African American. Most people comment that the way I spell it is different, but pronounce it correctly most of the time. I pronounce it KEY-SHA. I think I am the oldest Kecia i've ever met. I was born June 1977. I LOVE my name...always have.
My name is Kecia, I'm 41. My mother was once a model and my father told me I was named after another model they knew. When I was younger, I didn't like my name but as I grew older I love it, especially the'spelling. I have yet to meet anyone with the'same name'spelling. Glad to see so many of us out there!
My name is Kecia - pronounced Keesha. I am black from Detroit born in July 1978. My mom told me she got my name from a cover girl commercial. With nothing to do today I decided to look her up and she what she looked like. Then I found this site. I am so excited to share the name with so many women. I always liked my name and still get many compliments on it today.
my name is kecia born in 1980 in detroit. I love my name you don't meet many 40 y.o. woman name kecia now a days!
To me Daxton sounds like a "Trendy" name created by dropping a bag of "Scrabble" letters.
I named my daughter for the Finnish model Kecia NI'mann in 1980 because I liked the uniqueness of the'spelling and the'sound of the name. It is pronounced Kay-sha, short e in the first syllable. People often have difficulty with the pronunciation of this spelling of the name because of the popularity of the African-American variations.
My name is Kecia. I'm a 27 year old white female. I'm as average as you can be. I have blonde hair, blue eyes, and fair complexion. People often do a double take when I tell them my name is Kecia. I'm always asked where it came from or asked if I knew it was a common name for African women. I like my name. I'm proud of it.
Wow! When I read all the comments bout having the name iliana, i started laughing. I 2 have the name Iliana. I am half puerto rican and half white. My mome(p.r) said she named me after a soap tv show. I, like the rest of you, hated the name growing up, mainly due to people having trouble pronoucing it. But as i grew up i came to like it, mainly from a lot of compliments saying its a beautiful name. My nick name is ili. Sometimes spelled illy. I realy havent found the true meaning of my name yet. And would love to find out.
my name is kecia and people ALWAYS say it wrong! sometimes they call me lesia or kesha it is very annoying BUT i like my name very muche because it is so unique. i am 12 years old
I'm a Kecia, too! I'must admit that I did not like my name when I was a child. Kids were very cruel and made fun of my name. But now, as an adult, I love it! My mom said she named me after the Cover Girl model, because she was expecting to have a boy and did not have any girl's names picked out. I was born in 1976. It's great to see othe's out there with the'same spelled name!
I'm also a Kecia and I'm white. i've had the most fun with this name'since people assume I'm black and then are surprised when I show up. Once I got the "black girl discount" when shopping because the black woman who was waiting on me thought my name was very funny. I also got the model story from my family regarding my name.
My fiance's name is Kecia. Yes, when most people hear it, they do think it to be a black woman's name, but It'suits her very well, I think. Maybe I'm a bit biased....
This is my name too - pretty awesome name don't you think❤️
My name is Kecia... my parents thought I was going to be a boy and they were thrown for a loop when I wasn't. My mother was watching TV in the hospital and a commercial came on for cover girl make up... the voice over'said, "Norwegian model, Kecia...." and the rest is history. When I was younger, I hated the name, but I love it now. I only wish I knew what it meant.
My name is Kecia and im part Indian. My mom got the name from an indian friend of he's. People are always mispronouncing it or misspelling it. Even people who know my name but never'see it written dont know its my name. They pronounce like Ka-c-ya. Instead of Ke-sha. I love my name and i would never change it.
I am white, have hazel eyes and blond hair. I was born in February 1976 and am 47 years old. I am of Scandinavian/German/Dutch descent. My maiden name was Aarhus - second largest city in Denmark. My name is pronounced Kay-sha. Most people mispronounce it these days. Funny, when I was younger, people did not seem to have as much trouble with the pronunciation and thought it was a unique name. Now a lot of times people look at me strange when'they hear it - they expect me to be African-American and not white. Still I like my name very much. I cannot imagine being named any other name. When I have looked up a meaning of the name I have found that it can mean "great joy" or "favorite child".
I'm Kecia too. I go by the pronunciation KAY-sha. I was born in 1980. I have met a few other people with the'same spelling, but never pronounced the'same. My mom, like many other people here, says she first heard the name when she'saw the 1972's model, Kecia Nyman. Few people ever get it right on the first guess, but I don't mind. It is derived from the Finnish word for summer (kes❤️).
My name is kecia and peole mispronounce my name all the time but also when people ask me my name they tell me well that is such a unique way to spell it and they say it is a beautiful name but i have never met anyone that'spells it the way i do im 22 years old born in 84 i think my mom named me after a friend of he's from highschool

My name is Kecia, too. My dad named me after the centerfold of a Playboy magazine left in the waiting room while my poor mother was in labor with me. That was in the "old days" when'the dads weren't invited to the birth. My name was supposed to be "Heather," but my dad liked Kecia better. Mom didn't find out till later where he'd found it!
Hello! My name is Kecia and I am from The US. I was born March, 1977. My mother told me that I was named after a Japanese model. My name is actually pronounced Ka-cee-a. People always compliment me on the'spelling of my name and I just had a lady tell me she is going to tell her'sister to name her baby after me. That's a great compliment!
Hey my name is Kecia too!! (keesha) Alot of people pronounce it kee cee a or ke sigh a. lol I was born in 2005 and i have never met anyone withthe'same spelling of mine. I love my name! its so unique!
My name is Kecia, I am a 40yo african american. I was named after the Covergirl model. I get so tired of people telling my name is spelled/pronounced wrong.
My name is Kecia, pronounced "Keysha". I am a 21 year old African American female. Im surprised that there are so many older, non-Black women with this name. I get "Ka-cee-a" alot and people that automatically misspell my name also. My brother named me after a girl he liked in his first grade class. Feels good to know that im not alone.
Hi I'm Kecia born in USA the funny part the name came from Finland...the model who introduced the name was white not black but, people are so into race but, prejudice comes from within its not about the color of your skin.. I'm an Artist, I listened & read so expressions are what this world needs. Everyone representing a name that means Great Joy! So by enjoying life and accepting a famous name It's no way you should feel ashamed its pronounced another way I'm happy It's a different flavor you can say it your way but, I'm a few months from 50' so I'm celebrating things my way! Check out the Artist KeciaKe' that's my originality being me! The Kecia (Great Joy) loyalty love your name It's the finest!!!
Hi Everyone, My name is Kecia as well. My Mum said she'saw the name in a magazine. A model had the name and so named me after her. I am now 40yrs old. When I was growing up, no-one could pronounce it and also no-one had heard of it. I did do some traveling around USA and they thought I would be black, but to their surprise I wasn't. I am from NZ and are part Maori. There was a girl actor in Whale rider and her name is Keisha, but it is not a Maori name.
My name is Kecia as well. Most people I'meet say "Is your name Key-sha❤️" When I respond yes they tell me that is a pretty spelling. When people try to tell me that is not how you spell Key-sha, I remind them about the pronunciations of "Tricia" or "Alicia."
Wow! My name is Idell. Beli've it or not i did not know there were so many other people who name was Idell. Usually the closet i get to my name is Ida, Adale, or something similar of that'sort. That was until I'met an elder woman and her name was Idell and spelled and pronounced the'same way as mine. I thought that was pretty nice to have that in common with someone who lives in the'same small city as me. I was named after my grandmother who has been deceased since i was a little girl. Most of the time people who do not know me pronounce my name as "Idol" or "Edale". And i correct them by telling them no its saying the letter "I" and "Dell" like the computer. They find that humorous how i break it down.
I am a Kecia. I like my name and it is unique just like me.
Hello to ALL the Kecia's out there (regardless of how It's pronounced), it is a beautiful name! My name is Kecia, also. I pronounce it Kee-sha. I love the unique spelling of my name. I have always received compliment on the name and the unique spelling. I was born May 31, 1976, before the name gained popularity. I'm almost 47 y/o. I was named after a model that my mother'saw on TV (not sure if it was the cover girl model....maybe)Growing up I knew no one named Kecia but as I got older the name began to spring up everywher, although not the'spelling. I have always loved my name, and yes, folks oftentimes mispronounce it. But it doesn't bother me at all. I still receive compliments on my name and spelling to this day! Kecia
My name is Kecia, I'm 42 yrs old, and I have always loved my name, because it is unique. I have met a few people with my name, but not spelled the'same, their spelling is always Keisha.
My name is Kecia as well, but actually I did not know the correct pronunciation until I was a teenager. My situation is quite the opposite from the other'submission. I learned that Kesha or Keesha is one name, while Kecia is pronounced differently. Now I enjoy it when it is pronounced Key-c-a. Although I did have one guy ask for my name and when I did he asked, "Did you say Kiss me." Go figure. I think he just had issues
I was born in 1977 and was named after the model. Boy was my Mom shocked to hear she'd posed nude. Anyway, love the name. No one can spell it or say it... I tell them to remember It's the middle of the word "Special".
My name is Kecia, I'm white and born in 1983. My mom said she got it off of a Noxema commercial and they flashed her name across the bottom of the'screen. She thought she was Norwegian, but It'sounds like she may have been Swedish. I worked with a black woman who named her daughter Kecia (same spelling) and had Swedish neighbors that told her it means "little kitten" in Swedish. I prefer my spelling of it and have only met a few that'spell it the'same. I have heard of TONS with the name, only spelled in all sorts of funky ways! Oddly, many people say they've never heard the name. My friends frequently get asked by those who they mention my name around if I am black...seems to be popular with them.
Gotta love the Internet :) ...My name is Kecia, pronounced "KEY-sha"; I'm African-American and I was born in 1977. Not counting the'scandinavian model I was named after, I have never met anyone with my exact name who's older than me. Reading these comments, I see older Kecias exist! Also, I love that there were 559 of us born in 1977. :) i've never had any issues with my name aside from the fact that I always have to spell it with a heavy stress on the C ("Kay. Ee. CEEEEEE. Eye. Ay."). The other'spellings are so much more common now that occasionally I'll get "Oh, THAT'S different" from people. I love my name!
I have always felt as if I was the only KECIA in the world. I was born in June of 1980, and my mother also told me she named me after a model. For the first 8 years of school I allowed my teache's to call me Kee-sha. But my mother always pronounced my name as Kee-SA. I am still learning to correct othe's when'they mispronounce it. Now my kids even correct people. The greatest honor was when a college classmate named her daughter after me, and later one of my colleagues asked if she could do the'same when she was expecting. I have learned to love my name and its uniqueness. It is part of what makes me me. Thank you all for sharing.
HI'my name is also Kecia I was born in 2004 and my mom gave me this name i have no idea where she got the'spelling. But she didn't want it to be like all the other girls named keisha. i've never met anyother girl's named Kecia It's nice to know I'm not the only one. Me personaly I like my name because it is different no one has ever'seen it before where I live and It's unique.
My name is Kecia!(key-sha) But I get Key-c-a all the time. I was born June 4th 1976 and I am African-American as well. My mom said she heard it off the tv, an olympic swI'mer. Over the years I have tried to find out the meaning of my name but I can't really pin point anything. I did run across something that'said it meant "adored". What ever it means...I LOVE IT!!

My name is Kecia. I am 36 years old. My dad heard the name while he was stationed with the Air force in the 50's and saved it for me. My Dad told me that Kecia was a famous Scandinavian Cover girl. It is very rare for someone to pronounce my name correctly, and I have always felt it was special. I see the name Kecia popping up more and more online. Back when I first starting checking there were just me and a few othe's that came up in google.

I am 43 years old. I used to think I was the oldest Kecia alive ... lol. My father told me I was named after a Swedish model. There are a lot of girls w/ the name, but It's spelled differently. So, I do like my name because of its unique spelling. Btw, I am black.

Wjem I was pregnant and trying to pick out good unique names.. my sister'suggested Kaden... so we went with it and then about 2 months after he was born... I heard kaden and hayden and jayden all over the place... so much for unique.. I still like it though
I am a 44 year old Kecia whom has grown to dislike my name every year that goes by.I have a difficult to pronounce last name by marriage that complicates things. I do love reading about the folks who got the'same story from their parents as far as the'sweedish model, that is what I was told also. I live in the'south and get a lot of reactions as though the name has been stolen from african americans. It is nice to claim the name as individuals, thanks for sharing.
I'm also called Kecia, I am 46 and I live in the UK. I was born in california and my father always said i was named after a Scandinavian model who was advertising soap on TV, and the ad said, and wrote on the'screen at the'same time, something like 'she's big, she's beautiful, she's Kecia', so they knew how to spell and say it. Now in the google age, you can see the photos of her- my parents laughed to see it! I imagine it came from the biblical name, Keziah (one of the daughters of Job).
Dude, my name is SaKecia.. but i go by Kecia. I HATE IT!
my name is kecia i live in barbados in the caribbean im 32 yrs old my mom got the name from someone and its pronounce as ke-sha growing up and experiencing an identity crisis and hating the name ke-sha by its so popular at my new school i told everyone my name is ke-ci-a
My name is Kecia and I'm fron NYS. I was born in 1994. I have had the'same attempted pronunciations othe's have described below. I love my name, It's unique. I am also constantly asked where It's from because most of the people where I live consider it an African American name. I'm fair, blonde and blue eyed. My parents named me after an athletes name in the newspaper.

I'met a beautiful blonde-haired blue-eyed Kecia, pronounced "Ke su", when I was a young teenager, back around 1987. She was so sweet, pure, honest, and had the greatest personality too. She was my first love! :-)
My name is kecia and it is pronounced kesha but people always get it wrong no one can say it its kinda liek ketchup but kesha.
my name is also Kecia and I was born in 1977 and named after the model on tv! I did not get weird looks when I was younger - but do now as I have red hair and hazel eyes!
Hi! I am Kecia. I pronounce it like Key-sa. Like Lisa But with a K it what I tell people when'they mess it up. I love my name it is unique, I have never met anyone with it.
My name is Kecia. I was born in Hattiesburg, MS in 1975. My mother found the name in a hardback Glamour book. A model was named Kecia. Yes, people often pronounce it Kee-si-a. It is said Kee-sha. Most people don't spell it this way.
I have always loved my name. After 38 years, I have responded to every pronunciation of it. I actually didn't know about the Norwegian model story until this page, so I'm so glad I found it & all of you! I knew of only one other person with the exact same spelling & we actually ended up in high school together. My parents first heard in on a late night Indian movie & fell in love with it. Like the Brazilian in the 021109 comment, they heard It'said "Kehssia". Through my searches, on an Indian Baby Name page, it means "beautiful rain".
I am 36 and this is my name. My middle sister named me after her best friend in Kindergarden who spelled her name this way. I'met maybe 2 K-E-C-I-A's and talked to one on the phone. I saw 2 on court TV and when I searched the name on myspace I saw pages of Kecia's (different races). I love my name and always have!
