My sister was always called Kim (her middle name) growing up but uses her first name now. I think she didn't like that it is a common Asian surname. She wasn't connecting with it. i've know numerous Kims and all have been gorgeous gals. i've met a couple of guys named Kim too.
Kim is usually a short version of Kimberley/Kimberly, but also for Kimora or Kimona. It's a stand-alone male name in Japan, as well.
My mom named me Kim Denise, and I'm glad she did because I like it.
My name is Kimbela (stress on the first syllable) but I am called Kim. Most people mispronounce it. i've never met another one. I like it because it is different, so that makes me one a kind!

Hey my Name is Kim and I love it!! I get called KI'my
I like my name a lot now, but didn't until I was about 20. One problem was that my name is short for "Kimball," which is a family name. Everyone thought that it was short for Kimberly. I got tired of explaining that it wasn't, and I got tired of people in grade school making fun of me because it was also a boy's name. I wanted a flowery, multi-syllabic unmistakably female name. Now, however, these are all the things I like about it. "Kim" is short and clean, which I appreciate in my world full of clutter. I like its androgyny, and i've learned a lot about the Kimball family- there are whole books about us! At this point, I would find a long flowery name really annoying. So things turned out well after all.
I like the name Kim. Kimberly/Kimberley is nice, but I like Kim. I love the character Kim Macafee. Another way of spelling Kim is Kym [like Kym Karath who played the cutesy Gretl!]
My name is Kimona but people call me Kim for short.
I thought my name was Kimberly till I was 13. I don't really care for the name; I didn't know any other Kim's till I was in junior high. I never thought it was feminine enough. But, my dad named me, so I guess that makes it all right. ; )
