I don't really like my name when I was growing up because it was uncommon and I do not know anyone else with the'same name. Now, at 46 years...I'm loving the name! It's elegant and sounds really sweet! Some called me Lil or Lilly but I always prefer the way it was spelt: LILLIAN
My name is Lillian Dawn and I can tell you from experience that kids are mean. As soon as they make the LD connection they won't let her live it down. So if you're thinking about naming your daughter Lillian save her the hassle and aggravation and make sure that her middle name doesn't start with a D.

I was named for my maternal grandmother and great-grandmother, who were both Lillian. I was born in the late 60s, by which time use of this name had ebbed considerably. Growing up I hated my name and wanted desperately to be Tiffany or Heather or Amy like all (ALL!) my classmates. As an adult I LOVE my name and embrace the fact that It's very unusual in my generation. I chose to give it to my older daughter, making her the fourth in five generations to be Lillian. Sometimes I am called Lil, though this is rare, and I never get called Lily; but of course both of these are good nicknames for Lillian.
I find this to be more old lady than young girl, but I guess that this is now making a comeback on the U.S. side of the Atlantic. Happy Birthday Lilli! She is such an amazing young woman! The msosiin field is not an easy place for a child to be or to find ways to be useful. Lilli, however, did not complain and found jobs to do that were such a huge help. I was honored to serve our God beside her. I hope that I will someday have a daughter just like her.
