Brooks is derived from an old English surname meaning "dweller in the brook." The name comes from the Olde English “Broc” - the word 'stream' for 'creek' or the surname derived from a place name in the Middle Ages to indicate someone who lived near a stream or river. The surname is also found among English-speaking Ashkenazi Jews, deriving from the masculine Hebrew given name Baruch, meaning 'blessed' (consider Mel Brooks the Jewish filmmaker).
Personality
The number eight personality has a lot to do with power, wealth, and abundance. In some ways, this personality has been blessed on the material plane, but his authoritarian and problem-solving traits provide evidence that his good fortunes are not just lottery luck. They are well deserved. Eights are intensely active individuals, with high energy. They are remarkable for their ability to see the bigger picture down to the smallest details and organize a strategy around success. They then can lead a group around them towards any goal and develop the individual potential to get the most out of their team.
Popularity
Brooks has been on the American male naming charts since the late 19th century. While the name has stayed on the charts consistently for over 100 years, it has never experienced anything beyond light-moderate usage. The name experienced some popularity in the 1980s, but it is at this time that Brooks is seeing its peak historical success. The name has a rather lofty aristocratic sensibility. It also has a very tasteful 1980-style quality but without sounding as loud and powerful as Sebastian or Maximilian. Brooks is saved by its simple one-syllable sound and unassuming etymology. The name has never been in style, which makes it original and different (yet familiar). Country superstar musician Garth Brooks might have had some influence on the rise in popularity of this name; it's hard to say. Brooks isn't exactly the most masculine-sounding name. He is more gentle and refined.

This is my son's name and it always makes me think of people with Pierce as a last name--Franklin Pierce the 14th president and Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce played by Donald Sutherland and Alan Alda in M*A*S*H* (the movie and the'show respectively). Overall I liked it because It's unique without being off the wall. It's distinctive and strong.
It's my youngest son's name and we really love it. We also call him brooksie bear. He is 2 and he thinks his name is brooksie. I agree that It'sounds like a strong, football playing boys name. Future heart breaker for sure.
My husband and I love this name for our unborn, because we think of it as a very manly name. I'm having trouble convincing other family members of it though. They I'mediately think of Brooke and think "girl".
My son is named Brooks. Out of all my kids names, his is secretly my favorite. It's classy, some may think It's trendy but his great grandpa was named that in 1904. People call him Brook a lot. We call him Brooksie just like G-Grandpa was called.
This is a fantastic name. I am due in 2 months and we have decided on Zack! Love it..
Brooks was my name for most of my life, until I was 28. Don't get me wrong, It's a great name, but it was my father's name, and I needed my own identity. People never could pronounce it correctly, I found: I was always called Bert, Brad, Bruce, Bart... an'thing but Brooks. Wasn't there a character in Dickens called "Brooks of Sheffield" ❤️ It, of course, is a very English sounding name.
My sons name is Brooks George. We love his name'so much. We call him Brooksie Bear
This is my son's name... after Ronald Reagan. I pronounce it REE-gan and my husband says RAY-gan. Either way, I love my little king!
My handsome 32 year old son is named Brooks!! I love it! I have occassionally run into an ignoramus who thinks It's a girl name, ( when he was a child) , but their child was named John or Larry, so that'says a lot, lol! He loves his name too! Great , classy name!
Love it! It can either be a sexy man in a tuxedo, or a hunk in a jersey. What a cool name.
