Sometimes I like it and I do think it is a pretty name but I find it at times annoying that people cannot pronounce it and they have to ask again and again and in school all the teache's never could pronounce it correctly so you get Lila, Lillia, etc. I beli've the correct pronunciation is Lee-Lee-uh. I'm so confused...I don't really know if that is the correct way to say it or not! LOL!! Even'the members in my family all say it differently at times...oh well...

My Grandmother's name was Lela and I used that name all my life...untill I got my birth certificate when I was younger and I guess the nurse who wrote it down spelled it Lelia. Now with the new drivers lisenese requirements, I have to legally use the misspelled Lelia but was not sure how to ever pronounce it. I am 55. I like La Lee'A. Using the E in Le that'sounds like the e in the word "let". What do you think❤️

Hello Lelias - all of you - you have a lovely name. For my family tree, I'm trying to find information about Lelia Smith born in Iowa in 1882(ish). Her parents were Robert H Smith ( born England 1843 ) and Lelia (maiden surname not known) born New York 1852ish. Lelia was living with her parents in Boulder County at the 1900 census. If she's your greatgrandmother, then we're realted and I'd love to hear from you.I live in New Zealand and am not sure if It's OK to post an email address here.

I thought I was the only one who spent everyday correcting peeps on the'spelling of my name. I was named after the midwife who delivered me. Being from Georgia, we can place I's in thing just for decoration. So the way I pronounce my name is drum roll "Le-la. The "I" is silent. I was named "Lelia" after my great-grandmother. It's pronounced Lee-Luh (think: silent "i"). It is pronounced wrong all the time. i've been called such things as Lee-lee-uh, Lil-ee-uh, and Lay-luh. One of my high school teache's and one of my graduate professors continued to call me "Lila" the whole time I was in class with them. i've never met anyone else with the'same name, though I have been'told "I know a Lelia" before (when I ask if it is both spelled and pronounced the'same, people are generally not sure). I have had compliments on my name, and I think It's very nice not to have a common name'so as to decrease confusion in school and other'similar situations.

I used to hate my name because no one could pronounce it. I had a teacher call me Leilani for two years and people still call me Leila. I kind of like my name now but there is no way I want to name my daughter after myself or my grandmother.

Hello, My name is Lelia too, I was named after my Irish Grandmother and she'spelled her name Lela, she was born Lela Mae Patterson. My name is Lelia Marie, I have an extra (i) in my spelling of Lelia, probably added at the hospital upon my birth and never changed. Needless to say I love my name but have always had trouble getting people to pronounce it correctly, but I am use to it now. My parents gave me nicknames growing up like Lulu and Lucy belle because of everyone having trouble with the pronunciation of Lelia. Once I started school I learned my name was Lelia and not Lulu or Lucy or Coosie! However'some family members insist on calling me nicknames after I have grown up. Sometimes that is irritating because I love that I was named after my Grandmother and I feel it disrespectful to call me a child nickname I only reserved for my Mother and Father who have long since passed. So I guess what I am saying is, I love that I was named after a very special lady and I proudly carry on the tradition!! A very proud and happy Lelia!! ;)

But I wanted to stay true to my word. so I looked up the meaning of Lelia and what do you know!!! It's an arabic originated name. I am so excite, I get the best of both! Some days I like my name, but other days I just wish it was something different because I hate having to correct people constantly. I always laugh at how people have mis-spelled and butchered my name over the years, and it amazes me every time someone finds a totally new way to mis-spell or mispronounce my name that i would have never thought of. My name is Lelia, and though, like the person above, i've found nearly everyone mispronounces it, it has made me unique. A lot of people look at it and say Layla or Lay-uh or Lee-uh. I pronounce it Lee-lee-uh and Leelya, like the girl above, too. (Some people find Leelya easier to pronounce, It'seems. I don't know why it is a hard name for some, but it is.) It is apparently tied to the name Elizabeth, and therefore probably has a connection to the meaning "consecrated by God." It also has been'tied to a Latin male name, Laelius, which supposedly means "well-spoken." Just for fun: I was told by one lady from the Philippines that it is a fairly common name in some regions there. However, having lived 18 years in the USA, and going on eight months in Australia, i've yet to meet, face-to-face, another Lelia. That's rather cool, I think! I love my name. I was named after my great-great-grandmother. My name has also served me well online. Search for "Lelia" on Google. I'm the first one. ;)

I'm another Lelia. Named after my grandmother; my middle name is after my other g'mom and is also unusual. While my husband was training Kurdish soldiers in Iraq, they told him a Romeo and Juliet-like story in which Layla (which they insisted was my "real" name) was the heroine. They even helped him write "our" name in Arabic, having him practice over and over until he got it right.

After a lifetime of trying to give an example for the correct pronunciation (used by my family), I came up with "rhymes with Celia, but with an L". People seem to get that. Very common in Rome and oftentimes the name of a character in plays. Name Day/Onomastico: August 11ýin memory of St. Lelia, Irish martyr of the 5th century also known as Lidonia. So at baptI'm she was given'the name Elizabeth but is now 87 & has been called Lelia her whole life. In fact the name is recorded as that of a little known girl in ancient Ireland regarded by some as a saint but the name is very uncommon today. My 6 year old daughter is named Lelia too. People are often unsure as to how to pronounce it which is surprising when it corresponds to Celia & Delia in phonic ter's. my middle name is Lelia, after my great Aunt. I love it and might name my daughter Lelia. I wish there was more information on the meaning of the name. I pronounce it Leel-ya (like Celia with and L) but my step-mother'swears its pronounced Lee-ah. I attribute this confusion to my great aunt's deep southern drawl when asked her name. I love the unique factor of the name,i've never met another Lelia.

My name is LELIA. I was named after my paternal grandmother. One female in each generation since the mayflower was named LELIA.maybe that will help me with searching my geneology. My grandmother maiden name was Carter. They were in Virginia.

My name is Lelia i've only met one other Lelia and it was my aunt and my grandmothe's name. I always have to tell people its like Delia with an 'L'. That works well, otherwise people get it really wrong. I have always loved my name and people are always complimenting it.

My name is Lelia and it is often mispronounced but I always tell them it is okay but just don't forget to call me for lunch or dinner. My Aunt has the'same name but goes by Pearl instead. I pronounce it as: LeeLeeah. I have only known about a couple of ladies with the name of Lelia. It is my first name but did not go by Lelia until much later in life. I have a personalized plate with the name Lelia on it.

I love the name Lelia!! I went not knowing my great grandmothe's name till the day she died., she was always just Grandma C.. The first time was when I looked at the funeral program. I thought it was beautiful and vowed to name my first daughter Lelia. I was a little iffy once the time had come up during conversations of family planning because I really want my child to have an arabic name. But I wanted to stay true to my word. so I looked up the meaning of Lelia and what do you know!!! It's an arabic originated name. I am so excite, I get the best of both! BTW My great gran pronounced it Lee-Lah, but I choose to go with Lee-Liah. I have never heard it pronounced that way... It's beautiful!

My Mother was named Lelia. She was Italian and the name is fairly popular their. It is my middle name and my 5 year old granddaughter's name. In Italy it is pronounced Leylia. It is easy for my granddaughter's friends to pronounce. Adults only mess it up. My mother loved her name, but because people couldn't wrap their tongues around it, she was called Lilly. I go crazy if people call my granddaughter Lilly. It is currently the in thing to have a different name. Very few Marys and Janes around.

Hey, I'm also Lelia, I was named after the wife of my mother's favorite teacher. I rarely meet people who understand my name at first, and I usually have to say it twice or even'three times and not even'then do they understand it :)) I have been'told however, and I beli've it myself too, that It's a beautiful and special name. Now that I know what it means I think It'suits me perfectly :) I simply couldn't imagine myself having a common name, but I'm surprised to find out that there are so many Lelias out there.

My daughter is a Lelia (rhymes with Celia or Delia), and she is named for my grandmother, who is still living (age 85). My grandmother was named for HER grandmother, so the name "Lelia" goes back at least 6 generations in our family. In addition to my daughter and my grandmother, there are two other Lelias in our I'mediate family right now. I love the name--and my daughter (who is 10) does too! i've only met one other Lelia outside our family, though--so It's really inter'sting to see so many othe's here (and to see that the name is pronounced so many different ways)!
