I never knew what the name means, but I'd name my daughter Mafalda. It's cute, and when I was 10 or 11 I used to be a big fan of a comic book character named Mafalda, created by Quino in 1976. I think it is of Spanish origin a variant of Matilda which means "mighty in battle". It is quite common in Portugal.
The Japanese can not pronouce "L", ergo, in the anime "Death Note" they made up "Kira" coined from the American word, "Killer". It does not otherwise mean "to kill" or any death related things. :D Yay~ LoL
