Sheldon is a historical name that landed on the coasts of England with the ancestors of the Sheldon family as they migrated. The name originates from an Anglo-Saxon surname for a person residing in or near a 'steep valley.' Initially, Sheldon was a location-specific surname before emerging as a popular masculine first name.

The only thing i didn't like about my name being rachel is that through out my whole life there was ALWAYS someone else in my class named rachel. but thats how i got my best friend since the'secon grade her name is rachel=)knowing alot of rache's i do realize that all of them are very sweet (including me). even'though and most people either pronounce it "rachelle" and or spell it racheal. i will always love my name.
My brother's name is Sheldon. We're close in age so we had mutual friends growing up. When anyone would try to make a nickname out of his name (esp. "Shelly") he would abruptly let them know that his name is "Sheldon"... S-H-E-L-D-O-N. He is very intelligent (PhD), athletic (sub 6-minute miler), and has a wonderful family of his own.

Sheldon Isn't such a great name, the name reminds me of the unhatched chick character by the'same name on the "U.S. Acres" segment of the hit cartoon show "Garfield and Friends" based on the Garfield comic strip by Jim Davis , Wikipedia says about Sheldon on "U.S. Acres" that "Sheldon (voiced by Frank Welker): Booker's twin brother, who decides not to hatch. He became very philosophical and introspective over the course of the'strip, and began musing on his "Sanctum Sanctorum" (a small mound of grass). A recurring gag is to portray his shell as the perfect living space within, without ever'showing it. In one episode, the'shell finally hatched, only to reveal another'shell underneath."
Of Course, the characters of Sheldon J. Plankton & his computer wife Karen from the'spongeBob SquarePants show didn't exactly help the image of this name
