The name Katharine primarily roots from the Greek word 'katharos' meaning 'pure'. It stands as an embodiment of purity, sincerity, and innocence. Coupled with its religious undertones, Katharine represents a person who shines with unfading grace, nobility, and spiritual richness.
The name Katharine traces back to Ancient Greek origins, derived from the name 'Aikaterine'. The early Christian era associated it with 'katharos', the Greek word for pure, and this influenced its Latin spelling from 'Katerina' to 'Katharina'. The variant 'Katharine' was first recorded in England in 1196, after being brought back from the Crusades. From then on, Katharine triumphantly swayed through history, embraced by queens, saints, and noted personalities, adding to its refined repute.
Katharine falls under the elite group of names having adorned some of history's most captivating figures. Renowned Katherine Hepburn, four-time Academy Award-winning actress, is a standout. Katharine Lee Bates, the author of "America The Beautiful," also adds literary prestige. Katharine Graham, the Pulitzer-winning author, and publisher of The Washington Post, anchors the name to resilience and grace.
Moreover, those named Katharine are known for their keen intelligence, finesse, compassion, and often exhibit traits of being balanced, cooperative, and diplomatic. Unsurprisingly, the name Katharine implies a profound blend of strength, charm, and sophistication that is hard to overlook—a name to confer at birth and wear with pride throughout life.

My mom named me Katharine after Katharine Hepburn. People do get confused, and some of what i've noticed has already been mentioned here. The'second A is such a subtle difference though that my High School Diploma was spelled incorrectly. I asked them to have it changed and it was written on with a permanent marker! I'm unimpressed. I'made sure my college diploma was spelled correctly.
I love the name but my parents call me morgan my middle name. I was named for my mom's best friend Kathy.
my name is spelt kathrine. nothing in between'the h and r. (: its unique but is constantly spelt like this! or with an e. its kinda annoying!
It's beautiful. Every one spells it wrong tho. I like it how It's unique :)
Namesake for me: Katharine Hepburn - Even'though I have to spell my name every time someone asks for it, I'm happy It's kind of original and there was reasoning behind it :)
People often misspell it as "KathErine" ever'since I was a little girl. But I love it. I am in good company with this spelling.
It's often spelled incorrectly. Also, people pronounce the'second A incorrectly. I'm frequently called "Kath - AR - rin" rather than "Kat - rin" however, I am still very proud of the'spelling of my name!
I like this spelling. It looks nice to me. Katharine Hepburn spelled her name this way. I also like Kathryn.
It's a great name when you don't like someone; just tell them that they're pronouncing it wrong! It's ka-THA-r-INE, not Katharine! lol
I love my name, but people are constantly trying to shorten it to Katie or worse Kathy. I do love being unique as a KathArine though!
My name is always being spelled incorrectly to but i wouldnt change it for the world! I like the fact that it makes a classic name a bit more individual.
