Alia meaning

My name is Alia and Im only 12, but I actually like my name. I dont see very many people with that have the'same name and same spelling. That's the great part about it though. Whenever we have a new sub at school or a new person that comes along, I just laugh at the ways they try to pronounce it. When I was like 6 Or 7 people thought it was Al ee uh. Honestly I enjoy my name most of the time.

This is not my name or that of anyone I know, but I'm giving it to a character in a book I am writing! I'm afraid I don't understand the choice of the pronunciation "Care-uh", given'the etymology of the name. It is a Latin/Italian word (and Gaelic as othe's have said), it means " dear one, darling" and is pronounced "Car-uh." I suppose there is a precedent in the now old-fashioned pronunciation of Sharon and Karen as " Share-un" and " Care-un" (or perhaps this was only i England, where I'm from❤️) but still, I think Cara should be " Car-uh" and I am suprised some people choose to pronounce it the other way. Their prerogative, of course!
