My middle name is Valinda and I gave it to my first daughter as her first name because I have always loved the name. My name came from a comic strip in the newspaper in southern California in the early 50's. From what my mother told me the character was named Valinda Lee and was a Brenda Starr type character - the'strip just didn't stay around as long. I was teased about my name as a child more than my daughter was. Valinda - Vanilla lead to Chocolate, it was the 60's. Since it was my middle name I did not really suffer from mis-spelling issues. My daughter's most common experience was 'Velinda'. Her husband has a client who is also a writer for CSI and as a birthday surprise had Valinda used in a CSI script. My daughter was able to chose who Valinda would be and chose to be a victim in the'show. The actress playing the female lead that episode could NOT remember Valinda so she'shortened it to 'Val' but the 'phone records' shown had Valinda spelled out.
My boyfriends moms name is Valinda I think its beautiful. It's going to be our daughters middle name

Don't mind most of the time, but there are times when I DON'T like being called "Valerie". It's 6 of one, half-dozen of the other.....oh well.

Hi all, as you all my name is "Valinda" and yes everyone misspells it. I tell them "V" as in Victory. Did some research years ago and found the name is a form of "Val" meaning strong, but with a female suffix "inda".. I was born in "57" in Long Beach, Ca. to a Navy couple who lived in Los Angelos County at the time. . Also had a great aunt who was also named Valinda. The first Valinda I'met is when I saw a restaurant by that name. I had to stop and meet this other Valinda who sat in a booth with a broken leg. Met a few since then.

I AM VALINDA AND MY DAD SAID MY NAME AS IF IT WAS WRITTEN "VA LYNN DA" WITH THE LYNN AS THE MAIN SOUND OF THE NAME. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A POPULAR FRENCH ACTRESS IN 1963, THE YEAR I WAS BORN. DAD SEEMED TO GIVE MY NAME A TOTALLY DIFFERENT PRONUNCIATION THAN ANYONE ELSE NAMED VALINDA OR THAT I HAVE EVER HEARD OF. IT IS USUALLY PRONOUNCED WRONG. NOT ONE PERSON HAS EVer'sAID IT LIKE MY DAD AND I WOULD THINK HE WOULD KNOW WHAT HE NAMED ME. I WAS TOLD BY A WOMAN FROM BRAZIL THAT IT WAS A PORTUGUESE AND POSSIBLY FRENCH NAME. THAT DID NOT MAKE SENSE TO ME. IN MEXICO I WAS CALLED BELINDA AND THAT WAS TERRIBLE AS NONE OF THEM COULD SAY THE "V" SOUND ANY WAY., BUT WERE WONDERFUL PEOPLE. AS I HAVE ALREADY SAID, I HAVE NEVER MET ANYONE WITH The'sAME NAME THAT SOUNDS LIKE MINE, EVEN IF IT IS SPELLED The'sAME.
