I could have written'the'same comment as the Alethea above. It's totally phonetic, but i've been called Althea a thousand times, not to mention Alicia, Athena, or just people just stop and stare at it and I have to help them. On the positive: the meaning is truth. i've grown into my name. AS a kid I longed to have a simpler name (everyone was a Debbie or a Susan then, It'seems). And i do think it has a beautiful sound.
This is a very classic name,just as pretty as Alice.There is no competition between either name.The best thing is that Alison and Alice have no particular age to them-not too modern or old fashioned.
I love my name, and i've never met another Alethea. I'm used to being called "Alicia", " Althea", "Athena", " Oliva", "Ethia" and a million other mispronunciations. Oh well. To tell you the TRUTH, I wouldn't want any other name.
I get a lot of compliments but sometimes I get sick of having it misspelled, mispronounced, and misinterpreted, or of people being too lazy to take a moment to learn it rather than fudging it every time they see me, for years on end. How many times do I have to correct someone before It'sticks❤️ It's not THAT hard a name. Sometimes I wish I'd just been named "Ruth" after my grandmother.
I have never met anyone else with my name and I love it. It is Greek and means truth. My godmother named me. People often mispronounce it, which I find puzzling because it is pronounced the way it is spelled. I often get called Althea, Athena or Alicia and I always correct them. My closest friends call me Lee or LeeLee. My mother hates that. She always calls me by my full name and reminds me that I am special.
It's so weird to see other people named Alethea. Once, on retreat, the guide was asking for our names and when I told him mine he'said that it was a name of a goddess and that made me feel nice. Other people often ask me why my parents didn't just name me Althea and I❤️d agree and say that It's kinda weird but I actually really like my name. I just ask most people to call me Thea for simplicity❤️s sake though.
My name is alethea and I always thought I was the ONLY alethea but then I saw this website... anyway Im usually called leah for short but it gets frustrating when people say althea and forget the e but the positive part is that people always say my name is so pretty and rare so Im thankful for that!
