Leonard sounds too much like an old grandad to me, though its Italian/Spanish/Portuguese cognate Leonardo, as in Leonardo di Caprio, is now popular. If you want to use a name that can be shortened to Leo, choose Leonardo (or even Leopold) instead of Leonard. Better'still, try using Leo on its own.

Sounds like an old man to me - and Frank, Arthur, Herbert, Albert, Stanley, and Ernest are also in that category. Then'there are them old lady names still considered rather dreadful after all these years like Florence, Gertrude, Mildred, Hilda, Agnes, Edith, Mabel, or even Beatrice (though the last of these Isn't really as dreadful as the othe's and may have the chance of a comeback in the future).

Now the 10th most unpopular male name in the United Kingdom - ahead of Arthur in 12th place and Stanley in 17th place but behind Frank in eighth place and Harold in fourth place. Famous Leonards over the years have included American composer Leonard Ber'stein, American actor Leonard Nimoy (alias Dr Spock in Star Trek), Canadian musician and poet Leonard Cohen, and most recently BrIt'sh entertainer and TV judge Len Goodman (his father was Leonard aka Len), of Strictly Come Dancing fame (the'show's American equivalent is Dancing With The'stars).

A decent name, very inellectual and a bit dated but decent I am forever reminded of the character of Leonard Hofstadter from TV's "The Big Bang Theory" and Fun Fact, in the episode of the prequel series "Young Sheldon" titled "Graduation" which aired November 5, 2020, it was revealed that Sheldon Cooper & his wife Amy have a son named Leonard, Leonard Cooper

For those of you Power Rangers fans out there who have also heard of Super'sentai (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was based on 2004's Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger which means 'Dinosaur Squadron Beast Rangers'), one of the main characters of 1999's Hikari SentaI'maskman (translating as 'Light Squadron Maskman') is called Leonard in the Filipino Tagalog, but Kenta in the original Japanese language version. He was, of course, Black Mask of that Sentai team in the late Eighties.
